Giving Blood

Hi guys, I’m kind of obligated to donate blood today (charity thing for work), just wondering if it’s likely to have any effect on my training/nutrition. Should I eat more than usual to make up for any nutrients lost through the loss of blood? Thanks!

You will be fine, most likely they will give you something to eat while you are there, and you can eat again when you get home or back at the office.

I would wait a few hours before working out, even wait till the next day if you can.

Also, Drinks lots of fluids after you donate.

I wouldn’t want Magic Johnson’s blood.

I just had water come out of my nose.

hahaha

If you can donate double red blood cells it won’t affect your blood volume nearly as much and therefore won’t affect any training you might do later that day. Otherwise eat and hydrate during and after and you should be OK.

As a weight-training male, your iron levels are already pretty high if you eat a lot of red meat.

Honestly the worst part is the potential bruising from the needle they use to draw the blood.

I drink beer and play coed softball within 3 or 4 hours of giving blood, about every two and a half months.

Not sure how lifting intensely would work though…

How bout you let US know?

Ok! Well I had it done earlier today, felt a bit light headed about an hour afterwards but had 2-3 solid meals since and I feel fine now. Fully intending to do my normal back workout tomorrow morning. Case closed (I hope!).

LOL! It almost seems like he set up that joke on purpose just to see if anyone would pick it up.

My knee-jerk reaction is to be angry but I guess it’s just ignorance: Magic isn’t even HIV-positive anymore so your “joke” just ends up looking stupid.
