Give Blood, You Sissies!

I do have to add that some phlebotomists are way better than others, about every two or three times it’s very painful. I call her the “Butcher”. She’s just not very good at it.

How about I just FedEx you a pint? Will that count? I can overnight it.

Woot!

Got a 10am appt today

Jared jared jared… how many times has your wife told you to stop doing that!!!

I just cut myself, and let myself bleed for about 10 minutes. Saves on gas.

Yeah, she always yells at me for the overnight shipping costs.

Brooklynmike steps up to the plate!

Two more to go!

Antiliberal has become number four!

One more to go!

Tick-tock, tick-tock…

And that’s the ballgame!

Adam is #5! While others were talking about it or thinking about it, these five got it done!

Thanks all!

So you lot only give blood cos its healthier for you?

shouldnt you have been giving blood for years, most bloods services are low on blood at the best of times.

What are you talking about cycomiko?

Many peeps give blood on a regular schedule, I know there was lots of members of the 100 pint club or whatever they called it back at my former job.

It’s especially easy to get “new blood” if your workplace allows a blooddrive on site every so often, I know that is what got me doing it the first time.

After that it just depends on time/scheduling and how people feel. Yes of course during big events (like 9-11) blood donations become huge even overflowing in some categories, but people do give year round.

Only tough thing is there is a lot of reasons that disallow someone from giving, be it ailments, diseases, health, drugs… Recent example is the mad cow deal in britain, that adds another reason to filter out even more donors.

It’s hard to keep up with supply in a country that is growing, when you are reducing the donor pool faster than the increased demand.

You are right! I never gave blood before. Yesterday was my day off and I figured what the hell, let’s do this. My priorities for doing it were in order as follows-help someone, get free shit. I didn’t think too much about my own health ironically, and I’m enough of a T-Man to admit the free shit was an added incentive. But, seeing as how it was so easy, rereading LLs article and the fact that I have some super human platelets (according to the lady taking my blood) I figured I’d make this a regular thing. Good for me, good for everyone. I now want to be on the 20 gallon wall! I actually wanted to be 1st to post but J-Lee beat me too it. Good man that, and everyone else who participated! Don’t stop just because you weren’t one of the first 5 T-Nation! Oh yeah, I had so friggin much iron! My blood came out purple, no shitting you. At the bottom of the bag you can see it is still purple if you look close enough. Ack! Well if I have type O then I’ll have the ultimate blood to give. That’d be kinda cool… at least I can feel as though I’m doing something that might really save a life or two. Maybe they’ll even have my blood marked in a refrigerator some where, “Super-blood. Contact the doner immeadiately.” Chris I think some more contests like this are in order, T-Nation I think has the capacity to do some real good in the world.

Well didn’t that timing suck. We just had a blood drive tues/wed this week at college, and then this gets posted on thurs. :frowning:
oh well, i’m still on my way to hitting the 2 gallon mark, got 1+ gallons right now.

One more note is that I would highly recommend that you hold onto the gauze and apply pressure for at least 3 minutes after a blood donation or even just getting your blood drawn. The pressure helps plug up the hole making it much more unlikely to leak, bruise or become uncomfortable.

You suck Chris. I just gave blood a month ago, I can’t give for 8 weeks from the time you give. But Gunny Owens did let us out early from class. Again, you suck. Boo.

Good way to get people to give blood. A little advice for people who will give in the future, once they place the needle in your arm, squeeze constantly on the foam handle, I’m always done in two minutes, while others are there for up to a half hour.

I would give, but I visit the caribbean or Mexico every year and so I go into a 12 month wait. Guess I need to quit traveling…Maybe not…Going to Barbados for 8 days next week…

I had another comment on this.

I noticed some people talking about reduced performance for quite a while after donation, and I saw nothing like that at all.

I know it is most likely true for top echelon athletes, and obviously im not one of those types.

Anyway, I donated on friday. Didnt do too much activity on that day, some running with kids but not a lot.
Saturday was pretty much the same. No weights, and no heavy activity.
Funny thing was I felt stronger already, no idea why or if it was real or just perceived, but I felt stronger.

Sunday I returned to the weights (ABBH program) and easily did my workout, even knocked out an extra set with higher poundage. Then I came home and helped a neighbor move a ton of wood for a garage in his backyard. Felt great.
Today I went again to workout (abbh), and kicked it’s arse. Just whipped it, knocked out my 10 sets easily and didnt need to pysche myself up for it either.

Hey thanks again Mr Shugart/biotest for the nice gift of the T-Nation shirt and the mag-10.

Can’t wait to start up on that stuff tomorrow.
