I’ve read that Gironda absolutely hated most conventional methods of working the abdominal muscles – so much so that he was known to have thrown a couple trainees from his gym because they ignored his advice and started doing crunches.
Yet from the images I’ve seen, Gironda’s trainees had some solid ab development. Does anybody know what techniques and/or exercises he recommended?
I don’t know about Gironda’s advice, but there are plenty of ways to work your abs indirectly. Try some front-loaded squat variations (front, zercher, plate-loaded).
He actually was in favor of crunches, all be it his special kind. It was full sit ups he didn’t like. CT has a picture of one of his favored abdominal exercises.
