That pic of you on your first page is great! And you are 45?!?!?!!?!? So my life isn’t over at 42? I saw cake so I had to read your thread. You give me a lot to shoot for and motivational to see such a great work ethic.
For some reason I entirely missed the picture on the first page. I love the pink. You look great. I have ab envy big time. Mine will never look like that again. I blame my 16 year old whenever it comes up ![]()
Seriously, you look great.
Yeah, those of us with kids are at a serious disadvantage in the abs department. I gained more than 1/3 of my bodyweight with each pregnancy, so it’s hard to not have battle scars from that!
Kimba’s sure one hottie. No question about it.
Sleep or no sleep, that was a pretty good day there Ms.! Your discipline is so freakin’ awesome!
Not only did I wake up this AM having had a decent night’s rest, but now I see all these kind words. Thanks! I’ve had a rough couple of days, but things are seriously looking better today.
Nikki, the KB swing/pushup challenge is hard, fun and hits hard for the amount of time it takes. I do highly recommend it.
N., a number of people told me yesterday that they had gotten bad sleep! Maybe it was a moon phase thing.
Betty, you deserve a break and I hope you get one!
Belle, most assuredly your lift is NOT over at 42. There is absolutely no reason in this world why you couldn’t look and feel better now than at any prior time in your life.
Ouroboro and Snapper, thanks. Indeed, this body has never popped out a puppy so everything still is in its original place. You girls, however, can totally and brutally slay me in the lifting department. But I’m coming for youse guys!
CDQ, thanks. I’m feeling like a slacker because of a longer than usual deload. But tonight is deadlift nite! I love deadlift nite.
Pull hard, pull fast. Have fun tonight.

Have a couple of kids and your lifts will go up. I guarantee it. The sheer aggravation of them at times will add pounds to all your lifts.
I’m only half kidding ![]()
damn i had a lot of laughs reading about those KBs and DBs… ;=)
great workout, especially on lack of sleep. yay for the 57 MP! i needs to get back into doing pushups…(dumb wrist cyst thing and i had to stop them)
wave 8- that’s badass!
Jack, thanks I did have fun.
O, so that is your secret!!! As for me, kids are a no-go. I’d be miserable and so would the poor little monsters.
T, thanks for stopping by!
Friday night’s training – it was good to be back in the weight room lifting heavy-ish after what seems like a really long deload.
5/3/1 Wave 8, Week 1 - Sumo Deadlift Day
BW = 110 lbs.
Sumo Deadlift
from risers:
85# 1 x 5
105# 1 x 5
117# 1 x 5 <–working
from floor:
135# 1 x 5 <–working
belt on:
153# 1 x 7 <–money set, first time at this weight
My warmup sets felt heavy, so I had a bad feeling going into the money set. But it actually turned out OK. Right before I grab the bar, I now close my eyes and visualize a good lift with the weight feeling light. I think this is helping with the mental part of this game.
Bulgarian split squats
15s 2 x 12 each leg
The second set was much more difficult for me balancing. A little fatigue really shows up my balance problems.
RDLs
95# 1 x 10
115# 1 x 10
125# 1 x 10
135# 1 x 10 <–this is probably a PR. I don’t think I’ve done this weight on RDLs before
I think I could go lower on these.
Hip Abduction Machine
125# 3 x 10
I saw a suggestion in another log to give this machine (the good girl/bad girl machine) a try. This is the exercise where you push out on the pads to open up your legs. I felt it hit ma booty, but not hugely so. Definitely my left hip is weaker than my right. So maybe this machine could help me with that. We’ll see – I’m not totally sold on it.
Omg those DLs are incredible. Awesome workout.
Nice workout. Every time I see a video of you, I can’t believe how small you are. I don’t know how much deeper you think you need to be on the RDLs but you already have a small plate on there. If it were a 45, you’d be hitting the ground.

Go shorty, eat a cupcake!
Where you end up at the bottom of RDL’s depends on where your back starts to round. Back rounding is no-no-bad. RDL’s are really a hamstring flexion and back stability exercise, so the more flexible your hamstrings under load the lower you can go. The longer your arms the lower you can appear to go. Depth isn’t really an indicator in that case, strain on the hamstrings is, same as for a Good Morning.
That’s my view anyway, though others probably know better.
Nikki, thanks!
O, Snapper is probably 1 pound lighter and half an inch shorter. But she can beat my ass on all the lifts when she is healthy. This pisses me off. ![]()
Betty, that looks AWESOMELY DELICIOUS! I am very hungry just looking at that. Luckily I am on my way to dinner at a friend’s house who is a great cook (paella anyone?) and I’ve been weighing in light so I need to eat my face off. A great combo!
DCA, I think your view is correct. My hammies are a bit sore today, so I now think I was going low enough to get a good strain on them.
Today’s training: 2 hour hill ride.
Nope. Not one pound lighter. Several pounds heavier right now. Darn near plump for me. I’ve found that whining doesn’t burn the calories like heavy lifting does.
Form looks super, Kimba!

DAMNIT! I’ve been doin it wrong!
Snap, thanks for the form check. Sometimes I see back rounding where there isn’t any and vice versa.
CBear, there are better ways to burn calories. As you well know.
So yesterday’s dinner was super delicious. My friend is a wine collector with a large cellar, and besides the wines she had planned for the meal (champagne to start, then a light fruity Spanish wine) there was an impromptu wine challenge – correctly identify the California wine and the French wine poured from covered bottles. I lost.
I am not a big drinker, so this AM I am moving kind of slow. Bench day, regardless. Here I go.
Im a light weight too…one glass and Im tipsy.
Sounded like fun though! Always nice to be around good friends and FOOD!
Always jealous of your long bike rides…one of these days. Do you map out your route before you go??
I drove around this base, and it’s a 12 mile circumference…lots of room to ride!
Your pulling looks very strong. And your form has improved substantially from only a few months ago. What is your next deadlift milestone? Have you ever pulled 200 off the floor? If not, you are getting very close to a 200 pull right now.
Betty, there are a few routes that my husband and I ride all the time. So we’ll pick one and just ride it. Sometimes we’ll do something new and different, or drive somewhere to ride a new location.
A 12 mile ride around the base sounds like a good goal to reach for first. After that you can go to websites like mapmyride.com to get ideas for rides near you.
Sunday Post-wine-fest training went better than I would’ve thought.
5/3/1 - Wave 8, Week 1 - Squat and Bench Day
Box squats to 5 risers/step (3 sec. pause)
Bar 1 x 5
75# 1 x 6
Squats to 3 risers/step
75# 1 x 5 <–working
86# 1 x 5 <–working
97.5# 1 x 5 <–money set
I am still fighting knee cave, but I’ve decided to say “fuck it” and add normal 5/3/1 loading and hope I eventually get stronger in this area. It wasn’t super bad today, I think.
Trust me, I was trying as hard as I could to keep my knees out. I’d apologize for the crotch-iness of this video, but considering the crowd I know I don’t have to.
I hadn’t planned to squat today because my hamstrings were sore from Friday’s RDLs, but when I got to the weight room, the bro’s were on all the benches and the squat rack was free. Irresistible. My hammies felt better as the training progressed.
Bench Press
25s 1 x 5 ← dbs because all the benches were STILL occupied by the bros
61.5# 1 x 5 <–working
70# 1 x 10 <–money set, no spotter. Perhaps I could have eked out one more with a spotter
Kroc Rows
45# 2 x 8
working up to 12 reps at this weight
Back raises
27.5# 1 x 12 <–rep PR +1
Ouch, my hammies! I forgot that this hits me there so I just did one set.
Dips
7.5# on the dip belt 1 x 17 <–rep PR +7
I’m going to a pool party later on today, and the thought of drinking more alcohol is a non-starter. That stuff is really poison.
