When will there be more squat videos? I really admire your tenacity.
Yeah, a squat vid without the step and risers. I’m looking forward to that one.
Tenacious is a good word for you, Kimba.
Greeney, thanks for the encouragement.
Plucky, I love that cake cartoon and I thank you for taking care of Count’s issue.
O, I admire your results. I’d trade tenacity for results any day, but I suspect there is cause and effect goin’ on.
Snap and Bear, I did miss my crutch today. I squatted a ton of volume up to 85 lbs. with someone calling my depth and felt sort of thrown off my game without my familiar. I do agree this needs to be done, but even changing one little thing on my squats is proving challenging.
sigh.
I’ve been giving form-nazi-ism a bit of thought after some discussion about it in Joe’s thread. In the past year, I’ve spent alot of time at lower weights dealing with my squat form issues. To some degree this is also true for my deadlift. After consideration, I’m good with that. I’m not a powerlifter. I don’t compete. No one cares how much my 1 rep max is.
What I really care about is getting incrementally stronger at both 1 rep maxes and multi-rep PRs. I really care about not getting injured. I really care about maintaining what is the very best body I’ve ever had in my life and continuing to comfortably fit in my size 25 Hudsons.
Each of us has got to know what we are looking for here. One size doesn’t fit all, eh?

That would be very boring! It’s the differences that make life interesting and beautiful.

Nothing wrong with being strict about form. My problem comes with “feeling” what correct form should feel like.

Good point. You absolutely know what your goals are. And that’s all that matters. If the step and riser work for you, then tell Bear and I to fuck off.

No. You lot are right. The step and risers have fulfilled their role. The next progression is for me to know myself where deep enough is and to hit it every time. The rehab pussy weights are a good a time as any to deal with this one, and I thank you both for pointing that out.
Its just hard. whine, whine, whine.
we still love ya. Now go do some dips for forgiveness!

and make sure you put up the video as proof!
Not that you need it, but I approve of your goals.
I don’t know what squatting to steps and risers is. What is it may I ask? But I do know that good form makes what is difficult look easy (and pretty)–like your DLs. There is a lot of value in that, well to me anyway.

omfg
cake!!!
I do what I can…
to leave Kimba more time to KICK ASS!!
N., thank god for dips! At least I can usually count on those for a good result. I love my triceps.
George, there certainly will be video. Maybe I’ll switch up things and do some squattin’ tomorrow instead of deads.
Jack, I always appreciate your input.
Nadia, I am a first class depth cheater, and to keep myself honest I have been squatting to three risers plus a step in order to ensure I get to powerlifting legal depth on my squats. For example, here is my incredibly knee-cave ugly 130 lb. one rep max, with the step/riser combo in full view:
I am now trying to both cure the knee cave and squat to depth without my trusty step. Its a real bitch but I’m not giving up until the job is done.
Count, i’m happy you are happy.
Plucky, I do so like the way you think.
Today’s training was a 1 hr. 45 min round trip ride to the chicken burrito place.
Kim you are the cutest ever! I love the little fist pump at the end of the vid.
Hey, if everything came easy, where will the fun be in that? 130 is a lot of weight!
Hmm, chicken burrito…
Kim- I feel the same in regards to getting stronger over time, not getting injured and fitting in my pants!!

Nice squat, also like how so many of your training rides are based on restaurant distances.
More cowbell!
Kimba,
Ahh, your “risers” are my step aerobics platform. I actually have those in my home. I know banish me from PW right now. They came with a purple “bar” which might weigh 5lbs and (even better) you can screw off each end of the bar so you have two 1 lb dumb bells. Seriously, it’s all the equipment you need.
I find squats to be the most technically troubling lift to execute as well. We have different problems, but have achieved similar results. After reading more of your log, I noticed you ride a lot. Have you considered that (and the resulting slow twitch muscle fibers that activity develops) as a contributing factor to your squatting problem? I think running kills my squat, but you may not use that admission against me later! My legs lack explosive power. Jim Wendler recommends adding in jumps. http://asp.elitefts.com/qa/default.asp?qid=123083&tid=
I have not been consistent in implementing jumps into my program, but I am trying to be now. I’ll let you know if it helps.
Love the music (it’s so 80s) and your smile.
I do believe that is the first time I see the full Kimba-face and smile without a biking helmet.
very cute:) and you will beat that knee-cave bitch to submission.
