Girl With the Most Cake

you look as tasty as desert in an island of whip cream in that first pic.

LOVE the shoes in bed idea. very naughty and very nice.

ok. nuff droolin.

Those are great pictures. You do the “good girl / bad girl” thing beautifully.

Thanks for the kind words on the pictures.

I did that photo shoot mostly for my own enjoyment, but I’m happy that others like the results. Ah, the good girl/bad girl thing…indeed, with these sorts of pictures the line between beautiful and classy, and cheesy/tawdry is quite a fine one. It was definitely my hope to stay on the right side of that particular line.

Friday night training was an average training. No major breakthroughs, but nothing major went wrong either. Just another step in the journey.

5/3/1 Wave 10, Week 2 - Military Press and Sumo Deadlift Day
BW = 111

MPs
49# 1 x 3
56# 1 x 3
63# 1 x 1 <–money set was weak, I barely got one rep up.

Usually I do military presses on a Monday AM first thing in the AM. The past few weeks I’ve felt too beat up from Sunday’s training to do it. However, I am much stronger at them at this time. When I try MPs during a regular training, usually in the evening or late morning, I am much, much weaker. This puzzles me.

Sumo Deadlifts
from risers:
85# 1 x 5
105# 1 x 5
from floor:
130# 1 x 3 <–working
148# 1 x 3 <–working
belt on:
166.5# 1 x 4 <–money set, one rep less than last month but the form on these looked pretty good.

135# 3 x 10 <–I was happy with this. All the reps looked good and I was fast off the floor. I see the most progress here.

Neutral grip pull-ups
2/2/3/3

supersetted with

Good Girl/Bad Girl hip abductions
125# 3 x 10 with 3 sec. hold at max. bad girl

This is 5 lbs. more than last time, but this is a Nautilus machine and I doubt its real weight.

DB Snatch
32.5# 5R/4L and one of the L reps was questionable <–rep PR +2

Getting a wee bit stronger on these. I need to watch the form video again, but now I can’t find it. N., did you post it in your log???

Decline sits (maximum decline angle)
BW 1 x 20

I want to weight these, but somehow the dumbbell or plate behind my head leaves the back of my neck/top of my spine with a nasty red mark that sticks around for days. Even with a towel wrapped around! I don’t know how I manage to do this. And there were no med balls in the weight room. grrr.

Very nice lifting, and the pics are like a very sweet icing on the cake.

Here ya go!

no? hmm

well that sucks…

look up Staley Training and then search db snatch.

Joe, thanks for the kind wordings. Now I want cake with icing.

Betty, THANK YOU!! That was exactly the video I was looking for. I need to shrug more and get under the weight so that I don’t fail snatches that I KNOW I can make.

You continue to blow me away with your workouts. I just couldn’t stay in the gym long enough to do all that. All credit to you.
And cake… yeah. But only if it’s gluten free.

mmmm, cake!!

Which reminds me, I thought of a question for ya. you tend to ride your bike a lot more in the Summer so you can have more fun food. What happens during the holidays, how do you combat the extras??

Okay, I want to see the vid! I searched youtube but couldn’t find it…

Cal, sometimes I am stuck in the gym longer than I’d like because hubby takes so damn long. Most of the time I’ll do more core work instead of just sitting around waiting for him.

Betty, I’ll ride until the temp dips below 40 degrees F. or it snows. This usually gets me into Nov. Then I’ll wait for cross-country ski season to start. There is place around here that makes snow on a lighted loop for XC ski-skating, which is a workout that kicks my ass within 40 min. There is a month or so on either side of ski season where sometimes I’m stuck doing tabata-style intervals at home to get a workout in. During those times, less fun foods go down my gullet.

As for holidays, I’m not a huge fan of them. I can resist the typical holiday food and drink enough not to have sad consequences.

Greeney, here is the link to the article and the video is embedded:

Today’s training was my first “squat rehab” day. This is gonna be tiresome and no-damned-fun, but I have high hopes for effectiveness in combating my epic knee cave.

5/3/1 - Wave 10, Week 2 Bench Day & Squat Rehab Day 1

Bench Press
bar 1 x 5
60# 1 x 3
68# 1 x 3
76.5# 1 x 9 <–money set, rep PR +1

I was very happy for this rep PR, especially since I did not have a spotter and decided to go for that last rep anyway. Go me!

DB Bench
27.5s 1 x 10
30s 1 x 10

I haven’t done this in FOREVER and had forgotten what weight I can get up. Way back in Feb. I got the 32.5s up for 6 reps, so I’ll try that weight next time.

Squat Rehab Day 1 (3 risers/step)
Bar 1 x 5
75# 1 x 5 ← knees good
85# 1 x 5 ← knees good
90# 1 x 5, knee wiggle on last rep. Then 1 x 5, knee cave on last rep
85# 1 x 9 ← knee wiggle on rep 8 & 9.

God this was tiresome. The idea of this rehab is always to work at the “line” between cave and no cave. The good news, though, is that my butt was burning which means I was successfully sitting back and not using my quads. I also am really trying to keep my back tighter and my elbows down.

Dips
BW +10 1 x 5
BW +25 1 x 4 <–rep PR +1
BW +35 1 x 1 <–failed on 2, PR +5 lbs.
BW +25 1 x 2 <–failed on 3

I was very happy about squeezing out a rep at +35! I used a 25 lb. plate plus a 10 lb. plate, because I thought that the bigger 35# plate might be too unwieldy. That weight felt really heavy to me on the dip belt. Whereas, +25 felt totally do-able.

Nice workout. Congrat’s on both the Dip PR and the perseverance through the squat work.

Congrats on the PR’s, the dip in particular looked damn fine.

Oh and of course you can have cake with icing.

got it. I forgot about he skiing.

I need to find a winter hobby I enjoy. I’m not a fan of cold weather. Granted I love this time of year, but I love warm outdoor activities even better.

At least it’s seasonable here unlike ME, where it didn’t get warm until July! eek

Frzn, thanks for warning me that the squat rehab was something most folks would quit on before it could work. My mindset on this is long-term.

Joe, I was happy about the dip. I would certainly have looked like a goof bringing a 25 lb. plate and a 10 lb. plate all the way from the weight room to the dip station and then not being able to get even one rep.

Betty, you are exactly right. If you can find a winter activity to enjoy, your whole relationship to winter will change.

weighted dips = hardcore. good work Kimba. and there is nothing good about winter. except that eventually it ends.
