GHR

Guys, I need your help…

I’m building homemade GHR and the only thing that is keeping me from finishing it is the large half pad roller bench (similar to the one at eliefs.com). How the heck do i build it? I looked everywhere but couldn’t find it. Do you know any places that does custom pad or any internet websites that sell them? Thanks.

I guess you could try and make one. Make a half-cylinder shape of wood. Use that as the core and upholster it with dense closed cell foam and vinyl. You could add on a rectangular plywood base to give you something more to work with when mounting it to the unit.
You should be able to obtain the foam and vinyl easy enough.

Here’s what I tried - cut out 3 circles with a diameter of 16 inches using a rotozip. Next, cut the circles in half so you have a total of 6 half-moons. Nail 2 of the moons onto both sides of 2X4s. Then nail your 3 sets of half-moons into a sturdy base - I used a 16" wide LVL board. This will be your frame. Follow up alongside the half-moons with pieces of strapping so you cover the half-moons all the way around. Lay a piece of foam across your strapping and then cover with vinyl.

To be honest, I got my pad built but gave up trying to find someone to weld the rest of the GHR. In addition, I know that the WSB model is set at a certain angle. Best of luck to you.

Thanks. Actually, i’m not welding anything. I’m using 6 inches wide and 6ft long as a base. I use the pipes (3/4") with the round flanges to attach to the base. You could get all those stuff at Lowe’s. I don’t think they cost anymore than 50-70 at the most. i didn’t keep track of how much i spent. To build the foot part with 4 foam rollers (i got the long bright orange one at walmart, the one that kids play with in the swimming pool), i used 4 way, i think it’s called cross, in the middle and Tee at the top and inserted 4 foam rollers on 4 pipes. I also built a toe plate on another pipe attached to the base with the round flange. There’s three pipes total attaching to the base, one for the bench, one for the foot pad, and one for toe plate.

Could you please give me more details? I’m just wondering how it’ll hold the half cylinder shape. I’m not sure what you mean by strapping??? where would i find the dense foam to cover?

Tungsten,
A guy i know copied the design off the g.h.r that i have from elite. The pad part of the bench was a hard thing to figure out.Just the ohter guy said cut a bunch off ply wood into semi circular shapes and glue them together and use a clamp to hold them untill dry.Once you have a block the length you want sand it to get the bur’s off.Get another piece of ply wood for the bottom of your block.Wood screw it and glue it on.now all you have to do is bolts for the bottom to connect it to the frame.
Get the kind that you have to drill a hole in the wood and that has metal a spreader to put in the hole and the bolt into the spreader so it expands and holds tight.Hope this helps you.

Its quite simple. Get someone with a lathe to make a large wooden cylinder and then cut it in half?!

To attach the half-moons, you can either “toe nail” or angle nail them into the solid base…that’s why I used a piece of LVL which is close to 1 3/4" thick. If your base is not as thick, you could also nail through the bottom of your base into the bottom of your half moon made of plywood and 2X4s. That’s why I attached the half moons to pieces of 2X4’s in the middle - it gives added support and gives you something to nail the half moon into the base.
As for strapping, that’s basically 1X2 or the wood that is used to screw ceiling sheetrock into. You don’t want “long” pieces of wood to nail into the half moons (like 2X6s) because you want as much wood as possible covering the half moons.
As for foam, I bought mine from a salvage store. Walmart sells foam but would be costly to cover the entire pad. You might also try a craft store.
Finally, as for a piece of vinyl, I used an old vinyl table cloth. Hope this helps and good luck.
