The trailer for it is impressive:

I guarantee Nick Cage will fuck this up. Worst actor of our generation. I guess it pays to be Francis Ford Copolla’s nephew.
I’m gonna see it anyway.

Great. A 40-something, receding hairline douche playing a character that’s supposed to be half his age. Way to go once again, Hollywood.

Let’s not forget the new superman that doesn’t even look like he can crush a beer can.

everyone keeps saying this, but i watched the original superman the other day, and chris reeve was not biiger than routh, imo. and if he was, it wasnt by much

furthermore, superman doesnt need to be that jacked anyway. he is an alien, an extra inch on his biceps isnt going to make him stronger

Gee, you’d think that if his muscularity was a non-issue, they wouldn’t be drawing him looking like a bodybuilder for the last 60-70 years.

[/quote]

i dont think he was always drawn like a BB, he just looks like a tall athlete. i think he is drawn like that because it is appealing. i know he is drawn huge in some books, but i dont think it is that way in the majority of the books.

i hope ghostrider i good, but ill take a wait and see approach. dont want to get my hopes up.

9 times out of 10 he is drawn like he should be winning a trophy on stage. Very rarely is he drawn thin and usually only in relation to “Superboy”.

I saw the trailer for Ghost Rider and I think it looks like the drizzly shits. I will not be seeing this in the theater but I might check it out once it’s released on DVD just to see truly how bad it is.

Nick Cage isn’t a horrible actor but he shouldn’t be playing this role or the role of any other superhero. Years ago, I thought Hollywood was completely out of their minds when it was rumored that Cage would be playing Superman. I’m thankful that never happened.

I think Routh played a great Superman. And you don’t have to be jacked to play a superhero but you do need to have a muscular physique. If you read comics, then you know everyone is jacked. All the heroes have a Mr. O build regardless of their background. All the Green Lanterns are big and coincidentally they all were bodybuilders before they got their rings? Of course not!

It’s just more visually pleasing to see our heroes in shape and look like they can kick ass as opposed to how they would look in reality. This is where I try not to nitpick with superhero films. I want the actors to be in shape, but they do not have to be huge.

Routh, Jackman, and Bale were all fine in their roles. What people are asking these actors to look like is unrealistic. You can’t compete with a comic book because they do not have any limitations on what they can do.

I guess I’m done. Next person in line please.

Don’t even get me started on this. I don’t think I will go see the movie because of this, IMO they just did a bad job casting him.

I do want to see ghost rider though, I have no major issues with cage and G.H was the thing that got me into comics.

Monopoly

In response to the others I believe that whoever plays a superhero Has to show some muscle or what’s the point.
Actually Jackman as wolverine was perfect and so was Bale as Batman. Routh as Superman I was skeptical at first because he looked metrosexual.
After seeing the movie he was ok, but the guy in smallville would have been better.
People like to see muscle on their heroes. It makes the action believeable.

well, I read a bunch of the comics when I was alot younger, some arc where a government group was paid big bucks and given huge guns to take him out. As a human he was what I would call solid, but not jacked. As the Ghostrider he was huge though.

Now THAT’S a Superman pic!
Thanks Prof X

I don’t like Cage all that much but he is OK when his character is supposed to be irritating. Is Johnny Blaze a tool in the comics?

Wild at Heart, Vampire’s Kiss, Raising Arizona, Face/Off, Adaptation… these are among my favorite movies. Nick Cage’s performance in Adaptation ruled.

My thoughts on Cage’s acting mirror yours. I’ve also always found it baffling that a guy with such goofy features (sunken cheeks and eye sockets, weak chin, and bulging eyeballs) gets anything but annoying character roles.

As far as Johnny Blaze’s character, he was a young, bad-ass motorcycle stunt rider in the 70’s-80’s comic series, and about as far from tool territory as you could get.

Have you seen Gone in 60 Seconds? I just don’t get the Cage hatred. Face Off was one of my favorite movies for quite a while. Granted, I haven’t seen EVERY movie he’s been in.

I have not seen Gone in 60 Seconds.

I saw Honeymoon in Vegas. He was good because his character was supposed to be a schmuck and he played it well.

He sucked in The Rock. He was supposed to be an FBI chemical weapons expert and he just seemed like an ass. His acting brought down an otherwise cool movie.

He sucked donkeydick in Peggy Sue Got Married.

I am sure I have seen him in other movies but I cannot think of them.

He is sometimes tolerable but not top quality. He has too many irritating mannerisms.

That explains it. I haven’t seen any of those but The Rock and I thought that was a great movie when it came out. He didn’t outshine Connery and I thought that was the point. If it isn’t an action movie with him in it, I probably haven’t seen it. I think you need to rent Gone in 60 Seconds. Hell, it’s probably on sale at Walmart by now for $5.50.

He was garbage in Snake Eyes and 8mm. Windtalkers was garbage.

But Trapped In Paradise was funny.

Really? At first, I would say his character was quite toolish.

Prior to his incident, Johnny is portrayed as a real hothead — pun intended. He’s impatient, moody, and reckless. I don’t know, do any of those charcteristics fit with your definition of ‘tool’?

After becoming Ghost Rider, he’s able to put things into perspective better and settles down quite a bit. He becomes a cool counterpoint to the reckless nature of his GR persona.

I know I mentioned it already, but Lord of War was great. Be sure you check the credits for how they list the mysterious U.S. military contact that appears a few times throughout the movie.

His over-the-top way of doing things seems to work best in comedy like Raising Arizona or parady like Wild at Heart.

While I agree thats its pretty hard to find people that look like the picture of someone posted by prof x (with good acting abilities) I think there should be at least some attempt at making them closer to this. ex wolverine by hughe jackman was believable, bale in batman ( he was around 210 lbs I believe) was also pretty beliavable, a young guy with a athletic figure to play superman no way.

Dont even get me started on spider man The acting is decent but if you pay close attention to spiderman 2 he got quite chuby.

Has anyone seen The Weatherman? Its pretty goofy. Check it out. That Ghost Rider trailer was f’n sweet.
