Last heavy deadlift session.

Front Squats (warm-up)
2x5x135

Deadlift
1x5x135
1x5x185
1x3x225
1x3x275
1x1x315
Belt on
1x1x385 <— possible opener

1x1x405 <— possible 2nd attempt

2x0x415 <— entertaining and educational

(Ouro, this is now my infanous first use of those new plates. lol)

I’m hoping this was just because I don’t have a “4th pull in me”. It also shows that for me every kg counts here.

On the positive side, 415 wouldn’t come off the floor 2 weeks ago, so it should at least show that was just a bad night.

I didn’t do anything else since I left quite a bit of time between the last few lifts ~12 minutes to simulate competition timing. I think this was a good idea, however it was getting late at the end. I’ll be doing some upper back work about mid week.

I spoke to the meet director and I am in the full power meet so it’s a go! I’ll also be speaking to Glyn (likely tonight) to go over how I should compete/lifts/final training.
[/quote]

Based on the speed that 415 came off the floor the first time, I think you would have locked it out. It was a weekend for total spazziness wasn’t it? KMCNY also had a mishap but foolishly didn’t get it on tape.

I’m so glad you’re making the meet. Now just get busy practicing wrapping. I can loan you my wrap puller if you want it. Talk to Glynn and see if you can get some direction on what to do for the next week. It sounds like you already have a good idea of what your attempts will be. You may not even want to pull between now and then.

Aside from the initial WTF just happened, I was thinking “better it happened deadlifting as opposed to squatting”!

Yeah, that was my last heavy pull for sure. I would have liked to have locked out the 415, obviously, but I was more concerned with the 405 to confirm that my previous heavy attempts were just a bad night/still recovering from illness.

I figure Glynn has the experience to help me make up a reasonable plan.

btw, the big barbie car behind you adds 10lbs to your lifts so you better factor that in too.

Already done! That’s my transportation down there. I’m leaving tonight.

It looks as though you are just waiting a little too long to get your hips through. It looks to me that Jarmo is pushing his hips through as soon as he reaches his knees: - YouTube. And one more example: - YouTube.

Best of luck at the meet, and more importantly, best of luck getting there in that car!

It’s like looking in a mirror! OK, maybe not.

Yeah I have a lot of work to do on my deadlift…and my squat…and bench…

Thanks for the vids, those were sweet lifts. I’ll try to get my hips through faster but so far I haven’t developed a feel for the timing.

Competition prep update

9 days out and my morning weight is stable at 168lbs on my home scales.

I’m planning on heading out on Friday to train with the Niagara club and test out my ability to hit depth in the suit. The plan is fairly simple, if depth is no issue I’ll use it, if I’m having trouble hitting depth I won’t.

Other than that, I’ll take one more heavy bench session and I’m pretty much done with deadlifts.

You’re competing at 165 right?

Yes. I’m not worried about the last few pounds. My only concerns are my scales and that up until yesterday my weight had been bouncing around from 168-172. My goal was to keep it under 170 to make the cut easy, but I was kind of concerned with the big fluctuations.

I think increasing my fluid intake and cutting back on complex carbs likely helped with stabilizing the weight.

Onr thing I need to remember from last time is that I did not drop any weight over the night. So unless I want to sweat or spit some out just before I need to be 165 at bed time.

Let’s chat about this soon. Remind me to PM or email you or something. I will give you the scoop on what Hoi was going to have me do if I was cutting to 148. It may be different than your plan for the last 2 days pre-meet. He’s out of town so you won’t see him until the meet (if his job goes according to plan…which is better!).

Also, are you planning on making the morning drive? Or going there(ish) the night before?

Thanks, I’d be interested in learning Hoi’s secrets.

I’ll be taking the scenic morning drive to enjoy rising sun over the picturesque Ontario landscape. What? Gotta make it sound good somehow. Actually I’m fine with the drive since I usually get up at 4ish for work anyway.

Wow… that’s special hahaha.

It’s not as bad as a 7am weigh-in since we won’t weigh in til 9/930. The only thing is you won’t get to ingest anything until after that.

PM me your email and I will harrass you that way with Hoi’s secrets.

Just a suggestion but Epsom Salt Baths (20 minutes in HOT water) will help shed a few lbs if you need to.

Nice training Rugger, looking forward to meeting you and Court at the BR. I will probably be going down the night before.

Bunny you’re gonna miss the view!

Looking forward to meeting you too. I’m not sure what your planned attempts are, but based on your training lately we may have a little contest between the two of us for who will get the higher total (I’m just hoping that noone notices that I’m squatting and you’re not).

hahaha what I meant by that was making the morning drive wouldn’t be as painful since we have a later weigh-in. If we had a 7am weigh in and he planned on making the drive in the morning I’d probably punch him in the face for being a dumbass.

What will be even funnier is if you get outsquatted by a girl.

I dunno.

You and I are likely to be in the same flight darling. Therefore, keep your pacing ass away from me or I’ll trip you.
