RL, how fun was that? From a distance I think your wraps look good.
I don’t know how you train so late. I’m fast asleep by then and I don’t get up until 7.
Regarding playing the kids against each other, I already get enough agro from them about loving one more than the other. What they don’t seem to realise is that both of them drive me nuts. The other thing the angry teen doesn’t realise is that I remember 14 like it was yesterday and she will never have anything on me.
I need wood for the rack as well. Maybe I’ll troll around HD this weekend as well too.

Thanks, yes it was definitely fun. I think I had the second set wrapped pretty good, but the third (no video up yet) was really bad. I tried to wrap it tighter, but somehow ended up just at the top of my knee cap.
I also need to make one of those pully things all you cool kids have, that’s a real bitch trying to get that last part through.
The feel of the squat is completely different in the hole, I was surprised. Since the last time I used wraps was also with a suit, I wasn’t sure what was doing what. This made me want to get into a suit again and hit depth, since now I know a bit to expect.
As for training late, its either then or not at all and I did the not at all long enough. I am dead today. Four days straight is too much, even though the total volume was low. I’ll get a bit extra sleep tonight and then bench on Friday night.
BTW- I would never really play the kids against each other, but when they’re annoying you it’s fun to dream.

So the actual wrapping went about as I figured…meaning I suck at it! The fisrt wrap was fairly loose, second a little better and third was horrible. My only comparison was from the other week in Niagara. Court and the guy wrapping me said they weren’t that tight and aside from the second set tonight I wasn’t even near as tight as in Niagara. The third was actually wrapped way to low and I realized it barely covered my knee at the top. Oh well, live and learn… it was still fun.

Practise the wrapping when you’re not squatting. Seriously. Practise makes perfect. And plus, if you’re doing it in the house and not when you’re getting ready to squat, if something doesn’t feel right you can always just unwrap, reroll and try again. You’ll also notice over time where you like to be wrapped. We’re thinking of putting sharpie marker on my legs in BR so I get wrapped the same every time. I like it high on my quad and only about an inch under my knee.
Your wraps in Niagara weren’t tight at all. I almost got the “AndyChilds” last night on my last set… on Monday he was down and Hoi wrapped his knees so tight that when they unwrapped he was literally bleeding behind one knee. Thus, it’s been dubbed the “AndyChilds”
I can’t remember if we did the bowtie on you, but that’s what they did for Andy and there literally could not have been any less “bowtie” and have it still stay done up.

Holy crap! Now that’s tight.
Glyn wrapped me once from the top, once from the bottom and once with a “bowtie”, hence my confusion remembering how it was done.
Yeah, I’ll practice around the house some to get better at it. Maybe I’ll practice Saturday night while watching the UFC, if nothing else it should make for interesting conversation with whoever is over to watch. Of course if I had a few beer in me, I might try and pull an Ouro and start shooting for a PR!

Hahahaha yeah that could cause some confusion. When I wrap myself I start at the bottom (right under my knee cap), get 4 wraps up, do an X over my knee, wrap once more around my quad and tuck. I used to only be able to get 3 before I learned how to wrap myself tight. When I’ve been needing tighter wraps on myself I’ve been enlisting a helper to hold the top so I can do the bowtie method on myself. When I first started I just wrapped from the bottom up. With this method though I found I was sometimes uneven in the tightness and that sometimes I would get ‘peaking through’ of my knee cap when squatting.
Not sure if it works with non-APT, but worth a try![/quote]
Thanks for the link. That’s great. How long are the guys wraps? 25’? Holy smokes. I use the x technique myself with the x on top. I’m going to try with the sub x and see what that does for me.
I forgot to post my bench session from last night. It went fairly well which is a good thing since I’m trying to finalize arrangements to compete in 2 weeks in Belle River! Everything is pretty much finalized except;
1- The registration
3- Deciding how to compete (equipment)
4- Locating equipment if I go that route
5- Figure what my attempts/openers will be
6- Finalizing all the babysitting
Ok, Court I thought you said lists help? Damn, that’s a lot to arrange in a couple days!

Wow RL, that’s exciting. When did you decide to do this? I really hope you can do it. I’ll be there to watch and help Bunny so I’ll help you too if you need it.

I was hoping it may work for a bit but a lot of things needed to fall in place including wife’s work schedule and my mother-in-law not being on vacation. I may have a couple holes in my babysitting schedule at the moment, but it should work out.
I better get that registration in!
Then I have to figure out what I’ll do about equipment. options are to either compete with just wraps and belt or ask if I can borrow that squat suit for a couple weeks.
Suggestions?
Oh, and some help would likely be appreciated.
PS- I also need to locate an accurate scale to see where my weight is at the moment (~169-172, hopefully 169).

If you do I would get the registration in asap. Glyn says they’re filling up.
Personally I would be hesitent to use a squat suit at this point given you’ve only put one on once. Wraps should be no problem. You’ll need someone to help with the wrapping if you don’t want to do it yourself. I’m not sure how many of the non-lifting Niagara guys are going down (so far I think only 2). I also know they thought that Glyn and I would end up in the same flight which would put you in it too which would make them super busy wrapping machines. I’d put an email in to Hoi/Matt asap too. Otherwise you may just have to find a random friend who is helping someone else out that will wrap for you.

Like I said above, if you had decided this a few weeks ago and kept the suit that would be one thing. I would be surprised if you had more than one heavy squat day left in the next 2 weeks. Even still, that would mean a trip to Niagara to get it, use it, and get comfy in it all in one (max two) sessions. It’s your call, but I know I wouldn’t.

As of 4:30pm today it was still a “fleeting hope”, then my mother-in-law came available (at least most of the day anyway).
I’ll likely contact Glyn to get his thoughts, but most likely I’ll go with just belt/wraps.
I’m not too worried about the wraps, I’ll likely have practiced well over 100 times on myself before the then.
Thanks for the heads-up on it filling up quick. I’ll have mine sent by Monday morning.

Good for you. Like I said I’ll be there and available to help. I wouldn’t stress about the wraps. The only meet I had anyone wrap me was Niagara. Most people do their own. If I can do it, you can for sure. You saw my squat rack rerack spasticness. That right there ought to give you confidence. It isn’t rocket science.
Let me see if I can think up any other trite phrases to help. How about “God helps those that helps themselves”. “Jesus loves me”? Wait, wrong thread. Regardless, I’ll be there for any number submission etc.
Just realized I never put my bench session in from Friday night. I’ll edit in the specifics tonight since I don’t have them here, but I worked up to around my opener for 2 doubles at 230lbs.
I really tried to focus on getting and staying tight. This seems to be my biggest problem, I stay tight in training, but then the different environment in competition throws me off somehow and I don’t keep the same technique.
Deadlift
1x5x135
1x5x185
1x3x225
1x3x275
1x1x315
Belt on
1x1x385 <— possible opener
1x1x405 <— possible 2nd attempt
2x0x415 <— entertaining and educational
(Ouro, this is now my infamous first use of those new plates. lol)
I’m hoping this was just because I don’t have a “4th pull in me”. It also shows that for me every kg counts here.
On the positive side, 415 wouldn’t come off the floor 2 weeks ago, so it should at least show that was just a bad night.
I didn’t do anything else since I left quite a bit of time between the last few lifts ~12 minutes to simulate competition timing. I think this was a good idea, however it was getting late at the end. I’ll be doing some upper back work about mid week.
I spoke to the meet director and I am in the full power meet so it’s a go! I’ll also be speaking to Glyn (likely tonight) to go over how I should compete/lifts/final training.
