I’ll be taking the scenic morning drive to enjoy rising sun over the picturesque Ontario landscape. What? Gotta make it sound good somehow. Actually I’m fine with the drive since I usually get up at 4ish for work anyway.

It’s not as bad as a 7am weigh-in since we won’t weigh in til 9/930. The only thing is you won’t get to ingest anything until after that.

PM me your email and I will harrass you that way with Hoi’s secrets.

Yeah… rub it in Court!
Nice training Rugger, looking forward to meeting you and Court at the BR. I will probably be going down the night before.

Bunny you’re gonna miss the view!

Looking forward to meeting you too. I’m not sure what your planned attempts are, but based on your training lately we may have a little contest between the two of us for who will get the higher total (I’m just hoping that noone notices that I’m squatting and you’re not).

That really made me chuckle. So funny

What will be even funnier is if you get outsquatted by a girl.

Why did I sign up for this, again?

I dunno.

You and I are likely to be in the same flight darling. Therefore, keep your pacing ass away from me or I’ll trip you.[/quote]

Just drop something shiny on the floor and I’ll keep circling it. I have the memory of a goldfish!

lol! You guys are too damn funny!

We aim to please.

Well I was planning a light session last night, but when I couldn’t figure out if my hip hurt more sitting or standing I thought my time would be better spent foam rolling and doing some mobility crap. I hate this stuff, but since it hurt like hell I probably needed it.

I was also exhausted last night so I got to bed a bit earlier. For some reason anytime I let my sleep schedule drop below 4 hours a night for too long I get tired. Go figure. Anyway 5 hours last night, so I’m golden again for another week!

I could have had another half hour, but keener me decided it would be best to get to work early and get some things done, especially since I want to leave a bit early tomorrow. Unfortunately I neglected to consider GO transits inability to actually provide service and I ended up sitting at the GO station for 40 minutes after a train cancelation.

Oh yeah, and our network is now down at the office so I can’t even open the files I need to have finished in order to leave early.

I’m going to go stub my toe now, just because it seems appropriate. Have a nice day!

Poor sweet baby. I’m not even saying that facetiously. How do you survive on 4 hours sleep a night? You’re always so cheerful. Did I mistake mania for cheeriness? I hope you day gets better. If it were me, it would be a day to sit in my office with the door shut and my pants unbuttoned and my gut hanging out.

Unfortunately I only have a cubicle so that would mean best case scenario I end up fired, worst case, arrested!

As for the sleep, I don’t know. It was kind of gradual. I used to sleep 6-7 hours a night, then when I started working in Toronto I had to get up earlier, but being a night owl I hated going to bed so it dropped to 5-6 hours. Then once I started training more seriously it dropped to 4 on weeknights and usually about 5-6 on weekends since I train at night.

It’s whenever the weekend schedule gets messed up that I start to feel tired during the week and my hip starts to hurt. The hip thing I find odd, but it’s likely related to the sciatica I had for awhile a couple years ago.

That’s funny… shiny is Court’s favourite colour.

Alright, I just typed out a fairly long summary of tonight…and lost it, so this one will have less detail.

Friday, May 29, 2009

Went out to Niagara today to try out the squat suit again. The plan was that if I could consistently hit depth and squat fairly comfortably then I’d use the suit next week in competition, if not then I’d squat with just wraps.

Started out raw
1x5x135
1x5x185
Belt on loose
1x4x225
1x3x275
Suit on, straps down, belt
1x0x315
I moreless squatted this raw and almost got thrown forward on my face. Oops! I did recover on my own, but I racked it rather than trying another.

I was a bit annoyed at this point, obviously, but one guy told me to put the straps up and wraps on and to worry about squatting with straps down another time.

Suit on, straps up, wraps and belt
1x1x335 —> Depth good, but still coming forward a bit too much.
1x1x365 —> Depth just there, but sitting back better.
1x1x385 —> DEPTH GOOD, AND SITTING BACK. My best of the night!!!

They said to call it quits at this point and end on a high note. It would nave been nice to go for 405, but that wasn’t the point of the night.

Sooooo…I will suit up for the squat portion, but compete raw for the bench and deadlift.

Oh yeah, the suit is a Titan Centurion NXG+ size 36.

You know what? You are such a smarty pants.

I’m very glad to hear it went well. I expect 405 on Saturday. K?

What are Glyns big plans? Take over the world?

Ruggerlife, real nice work in the suit; way to stick with it. All the best at the meet!

Thanks.

My goal for the meet is to total 455kgs @75kgs. So I’m using the suit to give me an extra ~20kgs. Which should be enough providing I have a good day benching and I can repeat my recent pulls of about 180-185kgs.

If the meet was only for fun and I didn’t need a specific total, I would take my 3rd attempt over 400lbs (assuming I made the first two), but as the guys said last night I’m not out to find out what I can squat, I’m in a numbers game. So although we’ll make the call on the day the 3rd attempt likely wont be more than 375-385lbs.

I must say, squatting in a suit is a lot different, but it’s fun!

Last Bench session.

1x5x45
1x5x135
1x5x165
1x3x195
1x1x225
1x1x235 —> This was OK, but felt heavier than it should have.
1x1x245 —> Pause likely wasn’t long enough and the press was very slow.

That was it, now I have to play around and figure what I’ll use as my attempts.

I personally use the protocol Jim Wendler includes in his article “Making the Max Effort Easy” as my warm-up for meets. Your 195 triple could have contributed at least to some degree to your fatigue once you reached 235.

Wendler’s protocol goes like this:

warm up to 50% of opener, then do:

1x5x50%
1x3x60%
1x2x70%
1x1x80%
1x1x90%
1x1x100% (opener)

That’s good info. I’m going to hold onto that.

RL, When you decide on you lifts and strategy do you want to share it with me or do you want to wait for the meet?

Thanks mrodock. You’re probably correct. I was only doing to do a double, but for some reason I did a triple. I’m going to keep that progression close-by for next week.

Ouro, I’ll likely bounce a couple options off you tomorrow after I play around with some numbers.

Good luck next weekend!

Hey RL

Been awhile since I stopped in, looks to me that things are progressing nicely. I hope the meet goes extremely well for you. DO GOOD! and have a blast, if Ouro is your handler I doubt that you have a choice, you’ll have more fun than you should.

Thanks guys. It should be a good time and using the squat suit and wraps throws a new twist into it.

It sounds like there will be a good size group due to having both a 3 lift and a push pull. I guess they’ve organized it into a bit of a social event. I’ll be sure to bring my camera and record Ouro going for a squat PR after she’s had a few beers. But don’t worry, I won’t leave it up to Court to spot her.

I’m going for a PR but it won’t be squat.

I’m going to be looking after you, Bunny and making video’s of Court. I’ll have my hands full enough to keep me out of trouble. She promised me a cupcake.

I’ll be taping her pr’s though.

Yeah, yeah…

Wait till you have a beer in you and you see the squat rack off in the corner…

Looking good RL. Have to make sure we got the video camera handy for when she goes for this alcohol induced PR. I am looking forward to this now… I think I am more excited than nervous at this point.
