Just spent $200 on Elitefts Cerberus Figure 8 Elite Straps, Chalk Blocks, a 13 mm P2 Elitefts Power Belt, and Elitefts Heavy Knee Sleeves. @T3hPwnisher I know you own both a 13 mm belt and figure 8 straps. any significant positive differences you find between a 13 mm and 10 mm belt and Figure 8 vs regular Ironmind Lifting Straps?
Since getting a 13mm belt, I can’t go back. Anything else feels like NOT wearing a belt. I’ve got 3 other belts in my garage right now that, at most, see some use whenever I’m doing log and don’t want the lever to get banged up.
Figure 8s I’m not the biggest fan of for heavy work. I don’t feel like I can get locked in as tight as I can with a set of ironmind straps, which, in turn, reduces my power output. Where figure 8s shine is when you want to strap in quick, which would be good for giant sets or in competition. And I know people talk about how, with figure 8s, you don’t need to hold the bar and can let it dangle in your fingertips, but I have a feeling these people just didn’t know how to strap in with Ironminds to do the exact same thing, haha.
I’ve never had any trouble with regular wrist straps. I thought about getting figure 8s because they looked cool but then I realized I wouldn’t be able to drop the bar or bail on clean.
They make regular lasso straps that are sold on elitefts. They’re called “Olympic Weightlifting Straps.” I’d link to it, but Colucci would have my head.
You can literally resize the Figure 8’s to MAKE them fit tighter.
But yeah, I always mess up grip placement with regular straps, and the lengthy setup I have when I use them fatigues me BEFORE I actually pull. it’s weird. maybe i just suck at using straps. or maybe my gym’s barbell sucks. or maybe both.
It’s not about making the figure 8s fit tighter but about the ability to lock them in tighter. Since the straps don’t wrap into themselves like a pair of traditional straps, I find I’m not able to rotate the bar after the set-up to get them really dialed in. I know figure 8s are supposed to be infinity grip, but I feel more secure with a traditional set up.
Learning to pull with straps is a skill though, no question. I didn’t like straps when I first started using them because I was used to setting up without them. Now, even if I don’t have straps, I set up like I do.
