Well every time I throw my back out I take 2 or 3 weeks off.
I figured out it was the leg press…or at least going too low on the leg press.

Hi Birdy,
Don’t overreact to injury. Sure you may have an issue that needs to be addressed, but dropping squats is not the answer. For my 2c, I’d say use injury time to play with an alternative to the weighted back squat. Think about spending a few months playing with Pistol squats (and their many variations). They have the benefit of haveing no back loading and are sufficiently challenging to keep most of us in good condition.
Also take the time to look at alternative back training. I’ve recently become quite the fan of the Bridge progressions. Check them out.
I like to think that making progress over time is simply a matter of having your ‘good days’ out number your ‘bad days’. With that said, it’s not always about progress, sometimes it’s about maintenance or damage control. If you’re lucky, you view the damage control as the necessity it is, don’t jump the gun for fear of missing out on a lb of muscle, and as you finally get back into the swing of things, the motivation will take care of itself.
I’ve certainly had my fair share of injuries, and it’s just part of the game. Remember that it’s perfectly okay to relax and loosen the reins every once and a while. In the long run, it’s probably good for your mental game ![]()

Thanks for your inspiration my friends. Although not 100%, I feel that my back s on its way back to recovery.

I had to do the same thing about 6 months ago. It’s not the end of the world dude. I still enjoy training, I just don’t get a hard-on for leg day like I used to.

Hurt back = time to build up the wings Bird.
Hit the bench press and do some arms. Your legs and back will still be there when you’re healed.
And chest supported rows if you have access to a nice machine.
Last time I hurt my back was a dislocated vertebra. Went with stability-mobility-then eased back into strength with reverse hypers and ghrs. Then steadily into good mornings, RDLs, pull troughs, regular dead lifts then back to full squatting.

Yeah.
I see my orthopaedic surgeon in two weeks to see what’s what. Had a cortisone shot a year ago that seemed to help. Apparently it’s worn off.
Update:
So 1 week after I recover from my back injury, I contract gastro. In bed for 3 days, spewing my insides out, did not eat anything for 3 days, and struggled to keep down any fluids. Lost 5 kgs in the process, feel like shit, my house stinks…
… sometimes I feel like giving up.

those 5k’s are mostly water and cellular fluid. Your measurements won’t have changed very much, I assure you. Still it sucks to be this ill.

Strewth Birdy, if it was raining Bikini clad supermodels, you’d end up being the poor bastard who just catches a stilleto in the eye.
