My work out partner and I noticed that if we work out legs for an example and then a day or two later play basketball or something, the muscle is much less sore afterwards then it would be normally.
I also read in Flex or something about a bodybuilder who would do a super high rep set on a muscle that he was platue?d on a couple days after working that muscle.
Is this over training or allowing a muscle to get more blood to it for recovery as long as you don’t work the muscle too hard during the high rep set?
Well you just said yourself that you noticed it has a positive effect on recovery. So that alone suggests it is effective.
Also, you will find something similar to this in many, many different training systems. From track and field runners doing light tempo stuff to help recovery and boost recovery, to powerlifters doing sled drags for the same reason to bodybuilders doing light, extended sets to get the blood going. This is a pretty proven method, so I would say that you have success with it is not an abberation at all.
Hmmm…Do i really know that just because it aids in muscle soreness relief that it helps make you stronger? If it doesn?t impede my progress I’m going to start doing it way more often. I really dislike when my legs are killing me, so if I can get rid of that discomfort without hurting my growth then all the better!
I guess the only way to know for sure is to keep doing it and gauge my progress. You would think that if it were common you would hear more about it in regards to body building.

Well it might help you be able to do a little more work. For example if normally you can do 15 sets of various exercises for legs, but with recovery methods, you can do 17 sets and still not be sore the next time you train, it could help you grow in the long run.
Plus being sore just sucks in general, I know what you mean.
