Getting back into it

That sounds very similar to my training atm except I usually do a pressing exercise instead of the speed movement. What do you feel the benefit of no feet lifts is?
I don’t know if you pay any attention to Norik Vardanian, but he does a TON of no feet snatches and almost seems to swear by them for keeping the bar close.
Yeah, I’ve seen that. It’s funny because when I competed I never heard about them. But it really seems to help. When I was at my best I had tons of strength and power but had horrible technique. Although I did snatch 142.5kg once (but that was one of those miraculous day, my “normal” best was 120-125kg in competition and 130-132.5 in training) I could miss 60kg 10 times in a row! But I squatted 270kg and front squatted 220kg with a 165kg clean…

Now my technique is better, my bar path is a bit more stable. Just gotta gain my strength back, which is harder than I thought it would!

Sounds like no feet snatches might be good for me, if I miss it is always because it’s looping slightly forward. I have seen one of Vardanian’s videos where he was doing some heavy no feet snatches ( i think he went to 140), he is one of those lifters with a very vertical bar path.

Good to see you back lifting, looking pretty good!!

Christain are you training at Montreal?

That’s a helluva discrepancy, and some beastly squats.

Well my technique sucked back then. I was self taught. Basically jumping/pulling when the bar passed the knees, never bringing the bar anywhere close the hips/body. So it’s actually a miracle I was able to do the lifts I did.

I was going to say how could you miss 60 but then go on to make 120-125 and 142.5?!

I’ve had one of those sessions before. It’s a once a year act of weightlifting God session. I remember back in 2011 I made 127.5kg. It was like the 5th or 6th attempt that day and my first ever time trying it ever. We had the England Rugby girls in and I just felt amazing that day and I knew I could make it. It took me about 10months before I made 128 in comp and 130 in training. Obviously to never be repeated again…I did try 131 in comp that year though lol.

Sadly, no Rugby girls for me that time. Only my friend and an old VHS camera… He told me he still have that video, I’m trying to get it and transfer it to digital… on that video I snatched 142.5 and squatted 550lbs x 5, also cleaned 175kg but didn’t jerk it.

And I had hair and a belly!

I was kinda exaggerating with the missing 60kg 10 times… but my technique was really out there and I had no conception of what proper pulling mechanics were… I only did power cleans for football and went on from there… no real coaching until the year I quit lifting.

A coach is very important in nailing your foundations as well as getting the lifter to understand the lifts. I can’t imagine trying to learn from nothing. I didn’t even know what the lifts were before I met my coach randomly at the gym.

Yes, but you have to qualify at a local meet (there are qualifying totals). BUT if you lift as an invite (someone from another province can come in and lift as an invited lifter) I’m not sure if you need to post a qualifying total since your results will not officially count in the standings.

You have the provincial championships which are at the end of october, the Quebec Qualifyier which is at the end of december and the Quebec Weightlifting Classic in March.

These are the three competitions in which you can qualify for Nationals. Now, I’m not sure if the total posted by an invited lifter could be used as a qualifying total for nationals… probably.

This from the guy I have seen give guys a hard time on more than one occasion for being “weightlifting horn dogs” haha.

I believe you can. Pretty sure there was a lifter form Alberta who lifted at the Quebec Weightlifting Classic a couple years ago because he was living and training in the states and needed to qualify for nationals. Can’t remember why he didn’t lift at Western Canadians, but whatever.

Sometimes it’s just a schedule thing.

Dude I use to play Rugby as well, the girls were easy on the eyes and I felt invincible on the day. On those days I go all out haha.

Rugby girls easy on the eyes?? I do know the feeling though, nothing like a group of ladies watching you lift to get the power going.

That’s one of the main benefits of lifting in a Crossfit gym
