Get Wicked

I rarely do Lake Murray, I live about a mile from Lake Miramar so I regularly go there and cycle.

What gym do you belong to? I belong to LAFitness with all-club access.

Mount Fortuna is in Mission Trails, it’s the one that is…up. It’s the highest peak, the one that’s bordered by 52. It has inset log “steps” at the top, because the climb is so steep (my dad was ScoutMaster for the Scout who put those in as his Eagle project). I’ve never done Iron Mountain. Have you ever gone out to Torrey Pines? It’s beautiful out there. Nearly-sheer cliff face, anyone?

Anyway! You’re doing great and I’m really impressed with your willingness to take on suggestions and make changes. Absolutely record what you eat! Trust me, starving yourself isn’t going to work. You need to eat. Let’s say that again. YOU NEED TO EAT. Try not to be scared of food, and try to block out everything you hear in popular media about dieting and women and nutrition and such. Work WITH your body, not against it!

Mission Trails usually isnt that hard. I don’t know what Mount Fortuna is… I was with friends from work and we just walked all over, we stopped and chugged our water up in the ampitheatre and just really enjoyed the evening.

I’ve never done Iron Mountain but I hear that is really hard!

A couple of other San Diegans! I grew up near Lake Murray and now live near Lake Miramar.

Hey just a thing I saw on another sub forum here about females and carbs:

http://www.T-Nation.com/tmagnum/readTopic.do?id=2014022

So don’t just assume low carb is good for everyone. Sometimes that extra bit of energy lets you do a few more reps and have a bit faster metabolism

I got welcomed! Thank you, do I get to wear colors now or something?

Sorry for not updating. I had the opportunity to go stay with my cousin up at her friends house in Hollywood and it was just a fantasy come true! Amazing views, a pool, hot tub, MOVIE ROOM, amazing. I did get sick though because they had this espresso machine and I kept downing espressos and it made me sick.

I did blow the diet pretty much. THE COOK, (sorry but that is just so not my life) had left food, so we made sure to eat it. There were grilled vegetables and fruit! I’ve never had girlled fruit before but I like it. The pineapple was so good that way.

I got home yesterday and made a good start today. I felt so guilty I went to the gym before work this morning and walked on the treadmill for 45-minutes. I may start doing that. I enjoyed it, I am up early anyways, and my gym wasn’t crowded.

I cheeated but I am back now. It was just like a mini vacation though!

I made it back Niki! Thank you for asking.

Okaz I am so willing to learn and am so thankful for your suggestions but I was following what they are eating in the Physique clinic! They are not eating carbs and Christian Thibiedeux has stated you don’t need carbs.

You don’t need them, but a zero carb diet is very hard to maintain, and many people have low energy without carbs. You need some fuel for your body since you’re working out, too. You’re not doing a little dieting here, you’re making changes for life, right? Do you think you can go the rest of your life without carbs? I know I couldn’t. I have my beloved carbs when I can, and avoid them the rest of the day. This is something I can do for the rest of my life.

Go zero carb if you want, I’m just warning you that it will be extremely hard to maintain. IMO you’d be better off going “low carb” and not entirely without carbs, at least while you get used to new eating habits.

I do think you are right that I am not eating enough calories. I did read on Neya’s thread where they told her she was losing weight so she would probably feel hungry some of the time but this just feels like such big time hungry!

I was thinking of taking Benefiber, those fruit flavored tablets, to work to eat not only as a snack but for extra fiber? What do you think?

Some hunger you just gotta deal with, but if you are really big time hungry then you should add another meal IMO. Fiber tabs are good, they make you feel full.

But I’d like to see you do the following: keep a food log (on fitday.com for instance) and see how many calories you eat per day. Then use the BMI calculator thing (just google it, it’s everywhere) to find your maintenance calories. The BMI calculator number won’t be accurate but it’s a starting point. You should eat roughly 80% of your maintenance calories for safe and sustainable weightloss, but you might have to up it to maintenance if you work out a whole lot. You’ll also have to work with the numbers and find that “sweet” spot that works for you.

Undereating is bad. I’m gonna say that one more time, because it’s so important. Undereating is bad.

Is it because I am fatter than the Physique clinic people that I need carbs?

No, you don’t need them, but look into how many calories you need and how much you’re eating now. That’s based on body weight and activity level, and you have more body weight so you need more calories to start with. As you lose weight, you cut back on the calories.

Keep us updated!

Hi Okaz and thanks for all the food advice. I had freshly made hot and steamy Irish oatmeal this weekend and I think I am a convert! I bought some Quacker oatmeal and I was checking the back of the tube and if I only have 1/4 cup it won’t hurt me too bad.

I have heard talk about bodyweight and lean body weight. Should I base my calories on what I should weigh? so I don’t feed the fat?

Hiya kitmouse!

I live in El Cajon! I have never been to Lake Miramar but I may need to try that sometime! I belong to 24-Hour Fitness. My trainer has cancelled our last 2-meeting though. I don’t know if that just happens or if I should change trainers or what? I just want to be shown stuff and then I can do it on my own. I sitll am a little shy about the men in the free weight area but Shugs said fat people are invisible so I will just pretend they cant see me!

Thank you Schultzie! I see that Okaz was heading me in the right direction. I know I eat too much bread and rice and I love a potato (fried or baked with too much butter) and if there is a donut around I am on it. But I have been paying more attention now, well, not this weekend, but I will be doing better.

I think you challenged your trainer, and you probably pissed him off. No worries. Ask for another one. Tell the new trainer that you have specific questions about specific exercises. You need to learn basic form and find a good program, and then you’re good to go.

As for the men in the free weight area, they’re doing their own thing. Wear your iPod and do your thing. No worries.

I think I just caught the ghey cuz girl I love you!! That response was priceless!!!

Defenitly dont worry about the guys in the gym. After awhile you will be surprised at how helpful they will be! Eventually they will start making eye contact, strike up a conversation, and ask if you need a spot or help on form. My gym has a couple of bodybuilders and once they saw me working my ass off they were great.

Don’t worry, middle aged women are invisible, too, use the cloak to your advantage!

Great job in taking the first step! I think following Neya’s Physique Clinic is a great way to go. I’ve followed a few of CT’s workouts and diet plans with great results.

While I don’t want to get into a low versus high carb debate I do think some of the posters maybe missing the underlying idea of the low/lower carb diets. CT designed Neya’s workouts and diet to work together. So for optimal results I’d stick the workouts/diet as posted. That being said, if you’re losing weight and feeling good keep doing what your doing. If you plateau then you can switch things up.

[Btw the low carb diet that schultzie refers to is an Atkins type diet and is higher in saturated fats than the one Neya’s on.]

I’ve had trouble squating until I started doing goblet squats. Once I had those down I found that squating felt a lot more natural.

Here’s a link on how to do goblet squats:

Good luck

I AM A SAN DIEGAN TOO!!

I am east county also in Spring Valley.

Hey Wicked, if you ever want to hit the gym together let me know. I know where the El Cajon branch of 24-Hour is and can go there.

I promise to keep my body between you and all those big, muscley, sweaty, sexy guys lifting weights… cuz… I’m considerate like that.

Hi!
I went to the gym today, no trainer.
I used the machines and I did

leg extension
3x12 40lbs

leg curls
3x12 25lbs

cable rows
3x12 25, 30, 40 (I had no clue how strong to go)

ball crunches 1-minute x3

treadmill at 10 incline at 3.5 (I was so out of breath I was holding the rails) I know I would get a better workout without holding on to the rails but does it matter for right now?

Before I left I talked with the manager about my trainer. I just said our schedules werent working out and he said he would gt back to me about a new one.

I feel good. I am so glad I went.
Diet was good. I had
1/4cup oatmeal
1 hardboiled egg

lunch
a bag of summer baby salad mix (small)
a can of the new tuna with olive oil and garlic
apple
(okay and 1 girl scout thin mint dam coworkers!)

dinner
roast chicken thigh
asparus
spinach and red bell pepper salad

gym
after workout i had some Grow! and a tablespoon of peanut butter
