George Floyd Riots

You said vigilantes.

Exactly.

Damn. I don’t know what they think that will accomplish. It’s not like they’re going to stop and say “thanks I’ve changed my mind, I won’t loot any more”

I watched a minority owned 7-11 that stood for over 30 years burn to the ground
not to mention an entire street of businesses that cater to our black community looted and reduced to ash.

The Circuit Attorney has an embarrassing conviction rate. IIRC it’s @ 18 to 20 %

Curious to see what, if any, changes will come out of this.

So
they’re protesting that Cornwallis surrendered to the dastardly French?

Good example. And now imagine that almost NONE of these lawbreakers are ever even charged at all. Even after video data is available (both bodycam and citizens’ cellphones) and media coverage shines a spotlight. And finally, consider how that precise absence of accountability/justice lands with both actual and perceived victims.

So really, your tangent is really just about how positions of power provide (ample) opportunity for abuse. And since the “victims” of such white-collar corruption simply do not compare to victims of illegal policing, it’s actually quite a poor example (if we’re still interested in understanding these precise protests, rather than pontificating over broader, societal ills)

Now is not the time for facts?..lol

So continue with the protesting and riots for a perceived injustice? What a fucking joke.

That was from another unit. They were pinned down for 30 minutes. Had to move dumpsters to form barriers from the gunfire. We used our BEAR and gas deployment to extract them

That’s crazy, what became rioting is now starting to sound like guerrilla warfare. There is no legitimate reason for this to be allowed to continue.

What is BEAR?

The Democrats are pretty much funding it too:

The complete opposite, it will encourage more people to do the same. Imagine, you can go on a rampage and loot stores and even if you get caught you will be back on the street in a couple of days, likely with no charges either. I wonder how many of those that got released went right back to looting and rioting the same day.

Dude. The point is that your “facts” just do not matter right now (in the hearts/minds of the acting-out masses). Nor do your “facts” have any bearing on the changes (on how police serve their communities) that are at-hand.

Sure, I get that you want to academically “discuss” them from your position of privilege (which I share) but at least be self-aware enough about this.

And similarly, how an overall lack of empathy has gotten us to this (breaking) point.

Lol, Apparently you couldn’t read the sarcasm either.

I was wondering what happened in Flint, MI, after seeing the sheriff marching with protesters. Looks like this is a good example of how things should be handled. Of course the situation could have been different from the start in other places and you can’t expect cops to march with looters and rioters, but at least there is some good news on this topic.

Most likely it wouldn’t have been a breaking point of any sort if it wasn’t for the COVID shutdowns and mass unemployment. It’s much easier to go and protest when you don’t have to work in the morning, and looting is much more appealing when you’re broke. It just happened to be the perfect situation for a disaster.

A BEAR is an armored vehicle we use for certain applications.

I respectfully disagree. I think a show of empathy even if genuine can unintentionally be used to virtue signal, and dismiss the seriousness of the issue, and placate(shut up) the complainants without actually addressing issue or its real complexity.

I’m not saying empathy is bad, it obviously isn’t but it won’t necessarily improve a problem, and can actually make it worse by reinforcing negative behaviour. The old saying, “The road to hell is paved by good intentions”.
I know this won’t go down well with any of the bleeding hearts on here, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to do anything, just be aware its not going to be an easy road.

Of course numerous circumstances have all ignited this powderkeg; so then, the question arises as to how much attention this particular murder would’ve received during pre-COVID times.

But MUCH more importantly, don’t just gloss over my ‘lack of empathy’ point either: just look up the privileged kids enacting the viral George Floyd Challenge on social media today. I’m not gonna post any of that garbage here, but, yeah, this is America
