This woman has said some vile racist things about white men. She was even banned from Twitter and we all know how rare it is to see a woke person banned from Twitter. I’m not celebrating the fact she was shot and may die, but just noting the irony of who did the shooting and where it happened. Of course her group will push the whole she had received death treats narrative as long as they can.

Socialism, as in eastern Bloc? Or democratic socialism, as in Scandinavia? The term Socialism is used interchangeably to describe both in casual conversation, but describe different things. Bernie and warren are basically democratic socialists, but often get described as just socialist for example.
It’s a young person thing to learn about a new way of doing things and become enthralled with it, and rebel against the status quo. As more is learned, usually their views moderate.

Really? We still live in a capitalist society, and just had 4 years of a populist republican led government. That isn’t the status quo? “The Man” they are rebelling against?
If it weren’t for the Man, they wouldn’t have Netflix, Starbucks, Nikes, Uber or iPhones. You really think they want to change the status quo?

A little black girl was killed in Minneapolis this last week. Her grandfather an activist / pastor in the black community (works to reduce gang violence) made a powerful statement where he said something like how can we expect others to value black lives if we don’t.

Because woke culture has nothing to do with helping the poor and everything to do with helping the elite/educated. If you are some poor kid in the ghetto, who is your competition or obstacle when it comes to success in the world? It isn’t a white man. However, if you are a woman, black, latino, LGBTQ, etc., and educated, who is your main competition in the job market or even getting into a good college? White men, Asians, Jews, or in other words, “white” people.
It’s the same with them calling themselves marxists when they don’t like the working class barbarians.

Scandinavians are not democratic socialists. They’re both social democrats and capitalists. (This isn’t playing with semantics and I’m not being sarcastic.)

I wouldn’t even call “capitalism” an ideology or anything similar. It’s just an economic term to me. Countries like China and Denmark are essentially State Capitalist countries today, just that their governance is very different. China prior to Deng Xiaoping’s reforms would be accurately described as “socialist”. They’ve never been really “communist” but not for the lack of trying during the Cultural Revolution.
I think the underlying “ideology” in the US that you see as problematic is really “rugged individualism” or something IIRC. Not really sure, just stating this to try to describe the point I’m trying to make. “Laissez Faire Capitalism”?

And, you know, if you’re Bernie and constantly talking about “morality”, maybe the real moral duty you have is to stop calling yourself a “democratic socialist” when you see some of the next generation of potential leaders are now calling themselves “marxists” instead of retaining it as your unique “brand”.
IMO, I think anyone who understands the concepts of branding well and thinks he’s not aware that it serves a powerful point of differentiation from his competitors even though he doesn’t seem to truly believe in it is deluded. Even Noam Chomsky has been dissing him lately for his political stances.
Socialists, both real and “fake”, nowadays are similar to my impression of US republicans. They both erroneously use the term “communism” as either a deflection(see Bernie’s latest comment on Chavez as one high profile example) for the former or a bogeyman for the latter, only the reps are more or less right when it comes to real socialism.

The prosecutor in charge of the Kim Potter case has resigned over “partisan politics”. I know many are pushing for a murder charge. IMO, the 2nd degree manslaughter is no slam dunk (no chance of winning on a murder charge). Then again, I am terrible at predictions, so IDK.

Wouldn’t they charge her with both? Kinda difficult to do though as the crimes are exclusive to each other, which would make the prosecutor’s job difficult.
They’ll charge her with whatever will make them look like they actually care about the scumbag she killed.
When this happened, I scrolled through a reddit thread on the topic. It amazed me how many people thought that the case shouldn’t be manslaughter, but should be murder. They argued that it is clear that she knew it was a pistol (because of the weight). I don’t know how they ever came to that conclusion, but many (maybe majority) came to it. I can see it as a hypothesis, but to be convinced she knew it was a pistol, I just can’t understand.

I don’t go on reddit, but my friend somehow got himself downvoted to oblivion and banned for making a silly joke that can only be interpreted as nothing other than a joke if you can count to 10 and tie your own shoelaces.

When he told me that and linked me to the thread, the first thing I asked was why the fuck didn’t he pull the race card since he’s a Chinese/Indian mix lol. The confusion itself after that would have been even more entertaining.
EDITED due to fear that the real #canceldt79 or worse may surface somewhere else in the future. I have no doubt this site consists of mostly mature and open minded posters but I’m not taking any chances since it’s the internet.
Fuck, I come online, and only to this specific site, to discuss and maybe talk about some shit that I can’t talk about IRL. All this new level of tech and algorithms and shit from google and the like sucks. I don’t even have the balls to post anything on my local forums and I think some of you know I normally don’t deliberately post mindless vitriol.
