George Floyd Riots

I have some sympathy with your statement, definitely on an individual case by case basis. The problem is the scale of the issue, when dealing with hundreds of thousands of people, not a few individuals. Ideals vs reality usually means messy, inelegant solutions at the best of times.

I made a blanket statement and I think this varies according to each individual country so it’s not a ā€œone size fits allā€ kind of thing. If, for example, a country is already overpopulated, then I may regard some of these policies as valid if I could actually be bothered to put enough thought into stuff like the socioeconomic ramifications of a non-selective immigration policy. But I really don’t give enough of a fuck to do so lol.

All I really was stating was a disclaimer, while not implying that you what you think is to the contrary, that a human being’s ā€œworthā€ isn’t measured by the aforementioned stuff IMO.

Also, I do not agree with the policies of some countries with regards to this that I’m not going to mention. The US, UK and Australia aren’t one of them.

Who cares what they think?
Valerie Jarret knows best, and I’m sure she has their best interests in mind.

Same as all those suburban, white, liberals. They know what’s best for the black community.

Fat shaming!

Racist!

It’s time for police to call the bluff and withdraw from inner cities completely. Let it go to total shit. It wouldn’t take very long for the sane people living there to tell the suburban liberals and the BLM communists to shut the fuck up and mind their own business.

Who actually want isolated ghettoes, like all of their heroes did.

You can’t tax people for police and then not provide them. The police should withdraw from the Capitol as I’m sure most tax payers couldn’t care less if those scumbags didn’t have police protection.

How many people in the ghetto are being taxed?

Consumers pay all sorts of taxes. Businesses pay taxes. There are people who work in the ghetto but don’t live there that pay taxes.

Most(all?) will be gone if the ghettoes become isolated as desired.

Edit:

Only those that earn more than they receive in government benefits.

about time.

He probably wasn’t out jogging. They shouldn’t have taken the law into their own hands but Arbery was probably up to no good as his criminal record would indicate.

Probably true, but we are also not allowed to gun down petty thieves. IDK about a hate crime though as other motivations exist for their actions (inappropriately taking the law into their own hands). Is there is evidence outside of the color of the victim and those accused of it actually being a hate crime?

For what? You realize they’d already been charged with murder, right?

Once someone comes after you and tries to take your firearm, you’re not gunning down a petty thief.

That depends upon their grounds for doing so. ā€œA private person may arrest an offender if the offense is committed in his presence or within his immediate knowledge. If the offense is a felony and the offender is escaping or attempting to escape, a private person may arrest him upon reasonable and probable grounds of suspicion.ā€ Georgia Code Title 17. Criminal Procedure § 17-4-60

Well yes, but when one starts a confrontation with a gun, one has a possibility of shooting it. If the confrontation is not justified, I still consider it a murder. Gunning down was the wrong term here though.

In this case though, I don’t think Arbery had committed a felony. He needs to actually commit the crime. I don’t think he had done that yet, but it has been a while since I watched the video.

The way I take this one is that he hadn’t committed a crime yet, they chased him down with a gun, he fought back, and he got shot by one of them. Is that correct (it really has been a while since I have seen this one)?

I think they were recorded using racial slurs. I’m not sure as we never get the whole story until after the riots.

IMO, it is possible to say a racial slur during a crime against someone of a different race, but not have racism be the motivation of the crime (which I think is required for it to be a hate crime).

Everyone does. I have no idea who started the confrontation, and I don’t know whether it was justified.

I don’t know whether he had.

I don’t know. The video shows him running down a street, making contact with a guy holding a gun, then the gun firing.

My opinion here, but when you chase a guy in a truck with a gun drawn on them, you are initiating the confrontation in most cases.

I think we probably agree that this is going to be a tough on for the prosecution on the hate crime addition.
