George Floyd Riots

That would make a good campaign slogan for her and Joe. Something like ā€œSlavery: All in it together!ā€.

If I hadn’t been holding my breath for the past nine months, I certainly wouldn’t start holding it in anticipation of riots.

-screenshot of Chauvin’s position(edit:looks like upper back and not neck) while bystanders are asking him to get off.

-ā€œI’m gonna die in here,ā€ before entering the vehicle briefly.

-ā€œI can’t breathe,ā€ while in the vehicle, before Chauvin is there.

-ā€œI wanna lay on the ground.ā€

Sad situation, I would not like to be a member of that jury.

It is. Four guys have been through hell and cities have burned for nothing. Edit: Sad for Floyd as well. I’m sure he didn’t intend to OD.

Neither would I. I wouldn’t want to give up months of my life for this B.S. I would like to be able to get my ā€œNot guiltyā€ in quick, though. I DEFINITELY wouldn’t want to be an inner city business owner when all of this is done!

First accepted juror: undoubtedly lied about not having seen video. One guy willing to commit perjury in order to serve on the jury. Poor job by the defense. There’s one ā€œguilty(on any charge they want).ā€

I’d like to say I’m staying informed on it, but I’m not. I just don’t have the stomach lol. This is going to be a nightmare for everyone involved and everyone involved in the aftermath regardless of what it is.

Some(potential Juror #2) would disagree. He was so pumped to deal out some social justice that you could hear it. A normal, decent human would be looking to answer as honestly as possible in hopes that he not be tied up for a month or two with this trial; Juror 2 was willing to lie in order to be tied up.

Yep. This is a situation where pretty much everyone has picked a side, and will think a HUGE miscarriage of justice has been done if the verdict goes the other way… and they will blame the ā€œother sideā€ for rigging the system. They will seek out opinions and arguments to support their side during the trial, and will be fed facts and legalese by the algorithm and their favorite talking heads to only support and further entrench their opinion.

Nothing good comes of this trial. A guilty verdict isnt going to bring Floyd back, and it isnt going to meaningfully change policing more than all the scrutiny and new policy initiatives of the past summer and fall. A not-guilty verdict will almost certainly result in riots. No good outcomes as far as i can see it.

That said, im on team jail-his-ass. Def not 1st degree murder, and i dont think 2nd, but 3rd/manslaughter, assault, unneccessary force, etc are all very realistic and applicable at this point. Im sure the lawyers/prosocuters in my life will be talking about it and filling me in on a regular and unsolicited basis.

That might be true. How about we let the presented facts decide the ruling. Otherwise any violent mob will just decide whatever they want regardless of the truth. Oh wait didn’t that already happen last year.

The new/old american way.

It is certainly is a difficult case. New facts may be presented that make things difficult for the jury. I think back to the oj case, and although I think he was guilty, I think the jury got it right.

You ā€œthinkā€ oj was guilty? I think you’re just a little bit too open minded.

This is about the perfect rundown. I don’t know how we’re going to avoid more trouble. I’m going to actively avoid talking about it in real life haha.

George who?

Juror #8 says they are concerned rioters will come to their house and have concerns about their wife and children.

This would be exactly my concern. If I thought the man was innocent, I may have to make a decision on his life or my kids - even if my name was suppressed, I would live years having to worry about being doxxed

Doxing is definitely a genuine concern in this day and age.

In the above post, I mistakenly referred to rioters. What I meant to say was the juror was concerned peaceful protesters would gather in front of his home to discuss how his decision to acquitt was clouded by his internalised racism, this would be a mostly peaceful discussion, of course and social workers would be on call to assist.

It will be interesting to see if an innominate jury is requested. I could see the defense requesting it but maybe, the prosecution would want there to be that social pressure to convict.
