George Floyd Riots

Okay.

Crazy, right? It’s better that teachers and students be sitting ducks.

And it’s crazy that any anti-gun folks would have armed security.

It depends upon the color of the person you ask.

If they’re white, it’s about the oppression they were denied by virtue of being white. So it’s ending the fascism that doesn’t exist. They had to make up something.

For blacks, it’s about survival.

What does this mean?

The perception that they can be legally hunted by the cops and even whites in general. Note, I said perception.

Who wants that? What if we I don’t know made it more difficult to get your hands on a deadly weapon? The side that wants to cut education funding is going to pay for guns and training for every teacher?

Well we can probably skimp on the training part. Not like that’s ever an issue for all buyers.

We need more guns! Why? To protect against the guns!

(Falls under the category of a) things that make you go “Ummmmmm…” and/or b) WTF???):

“An independent autopsy into the death of George Floyd found that the unarmed black man died from “asphyxiation from sustained pressure,” according to a press release from attorney Ben Crump”.

“This came after the Hennepin County Medical Examiner found “no physical findings” to “support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation,” according to the criminal complaint released by the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office in the arrest of former Officer Derek Chauvin”.

I work in a small town (population 40k) in the middle of nowhere, VA. We’ve been having peaceful gatherings at the courthouse for a few days, which the police are not worried about. Today they have intel that a bus load, or several bus loads of people from somewhere else are coming to town that the police are concerned about. Most likely from the town up the road that was trashed last night.

As of right now, we’re supposed to stay locked down in our Fire Stations, only to go out on calls. Also, it’s been suggested that we “stage” for vehicle or structure fires, which we’re not ok with, and probably not going to do. We have one hell of a front bumper, if we get into trouble we can probably get ourselves back out of it.

I’m not ok with the people coming from out of town.

Wow, that was a painful thread to make it through. Beyond, are you familiar with ‘the talk’ that most African-American mothers have to have with their sons before they get old enough to be perceived as a threat by the police? Your posts display a lot of surface knowledge that can be obtained from reading, and zero actual understanding of what it’s like to be black in America.

No, I’m not black either, but I grew up in a small town in Texas that even to this day has a section of town that the white folks refer to as N*****town, and I’ve firsthand experienced the differences in interactions with police when pulled over as part of a carload of white people vs. a car with some black people in it. Even with the experiences I’ve had I can never truly know what it feels like to be black in America, but I’ve lived through enough to be able to empathize. It’s easy to theorycraft about grievances being manufactured, when you haven’t actually lived it.

Hey, plantain chips are amazing! Way better than Doritos.

This is a very good way to phrase my feelings as well.

That’s a good point. Trump declaring them a terrorist group is essentially meaningless if there is no way of determining who is and isn’t an actual member.

Not saying you are wrong, but that would mean Trump alienating himself from his voter base. It depends what he really cares about, and if winning the next election is his main priority then left-right conflict and rioting is much better than turning against his supporters.

Me and you disagree on a lot of things, but I’m with you on that.

Why do you say dumb shit like that? Did I tell anyone to go back to Africa or anywhere else?

You just want to blame everything on racism when that does not explain the full situation. If cops are killing black people because of racism then why in a country where almost everyone is black is the rate of killings by police more than 20 times higher? The race card won’t win that argument. Racism is definitely an issue, but there are other issues as well.

Oh i am under no illusions as to why Trump will never call out a rightwing/white nationalist group. How fucked up is it that EVERYONE knows the reason POTUS won’t speak out or take action against violent white nationalist groups is because it will alienate a large percentage of his supporters?

Z might be mixing up your posts with those from BeyondBeyond, who most certainly did say that any black folks should either stop complaining or go back to africa.

I’ve said it before, and ill say it again. Its way out of wack how much power police wield in our society compared to how low the qualification threshold is. And i have no workable idea how to fix that.

OK, so I’ve never heard of Proud Boys. I looked them up, and according to Wikipedia, they were named after “Proud of Your Boy,” a song scrapped from the animated Disney movie Aladdin…wtf…that can’t be true, right? lol

The simulation has broken. I now await the sound of trumpets.

Yes.

Edit below.

Sorry dude.

What’s “out of wack” about it? They’re either enforcing laws passed by our elected leaders, or they’re committing crimes. If I’m not mistaken, the qualification threshold for elected leaders is lower.

It was founded by the trollish twat, Gavin McInnes, so I 100% believe this to be true.

Edit: Zecarlo corrected me on the spelling of twat’s name.

This is the thing. Cops become the scapegoats for those in power.

Being a cop on the street is one if the most difficult day-to-day jobs in our society. They are tasked with dealing with the worst of our society at their worst moments. Their mistakes have huge consequences, and they have emotional temptations to lash out all the time. They have the responsibility of a legally superior version of events, and can use their power to kill, maim, incarcerate, help, save and protect using as much force as they want… unless cameras happen to be around. The list goes on and on for how difficult the job is, and how much responsibility and power they wield.

For how hard the job is, and how much power they wield police departments should be recruiting only the best and brightest, and training them to remain in top form physically and mentally, and we should be paying them commensurately. But due to budget constraints, and minimum number of bodies needed, we end up with a police force that is many times a long way from the best and brightest among us.
