Why does this matter? Some didn’t seem to care when armed protestors stormed the capital at Michigan. So are armed protestors an issue only when they get close to the White House? I thought the right was all about everyone walking around openly carrying weapons? Because we shouldn’t assume just because a group is walking around looking like Arnold in Commando and armed to the teeth that they are a potential threat. Isn’t this what I’ve been hearing for forever from the all weapons everywhere crowd?
Trump should have walked out and embraced anyone who was openly showing their support for the 2nd Amendment. But I guess the second amendment is only a big deal if it’s not near him. That’s why Mar Lago and the Republican convention ban weapons. That’s why Republicans don’t have a problem banning weapons at their town hall meetings.
You’re dealing with people who are ignorant about how businesses and money work. They will say, in fact some were saying, that the businesses have insurance. They don’t understand that businesses pay for insurance. They may have high deductibles. And, their rates will go up. Some businesses don’t even have insurance.
There is also the very real possibility they won’t reopen regardless of insurance.
In inner cities many people think that if you have a job, you have money. They will ask to borrow money and if you say you don’t have any, they will respond, “but you have a job.” They don’t think that you have bills and see a paycheck as some sort of lump sum without looking at in context of how many hours you worked for it or how much it really is when looked at over the long term. They see, for example, 500 dollars and think wow 500 dollars. That might be a lot if you found it on the sidewalk but it’s not much for a paycheck.
Heard a story on NPR about a Somali Minneapolis restaurant that stopped paying their insurance during quarantine so they could continue paying employees. The restaurant was destroyed by rioters friday night, and they cannot rebuild with no insurance. Really sad.
If I recall correctly, the protestors openly carrying at the Michigan Capital weren’t causing destruction of property, looting, etc. I could be wrong though.
Stories of good deeds are only used on slow news days. Violence, and shocking scenes sell better so that is what will be featured on the nightly news, on social media, and be the topic of discussions.
No, it’s not. What change is desired? “Black lives matter” and “I can’t breathe” are not demands for change. “Hands up, don’t shoot” was built on lies.
An Officer was quickly charged in the George Floyd incident, and the others on scene were fired. What more could have happened?
There are many stories like this after riots like this.
CBS showed a clip of tough looking Black Man in tears in the ruins of his little bar/restaurant:
He said (paraphrasing): " I poured everything I had into this…it was a Lifelong dream…now it’s all gone…"
With that said, I agree with what you said earlier; it is important to differentiate the protests, civil disobedience etc, from the looting. And i think it is important to realize that the looting is a small part of this story…
They just shut down the legislature, stormed the visitors center, etc.
But isn’t the point that we shouldn’t assume that anyone openly carrying a weapon is threatening? I say if a bunch of people are grouping with assault rifles the President should let them near him. Why would he worry?
Wonder why Mar A Lago and the Republican convention ban guns anyways? The dirty secret is Republicans don’t want the far right loonies carrying automatic weapons near them either. But they can’t let their base know that. It’s the same thing with illegal immigrants.
Somehow when people storm a place and do not destroy and/or hurt people along the way vs. people destroying property and attempting to kill/maim others have entirely different motives.
The Michigan protestors are voicing a problem with government overreach. The rioters in Washington, DC are mostly ANTIFA and have no determined plan except to demolish everything in their path.
You’d have to be an idiot to not know that. There’s been no big movement to generally legalize automatic weapons. The Republicans are shit, as far as automatic weapons are concerned.
Sure. And breaking the law while they do it. Plus wearing masks is super annoying. Who wants to look for snickers while wearing a mask?
Funny how it’s not just automatic weapons. It’s weapons of all kinds that they are banning from these places. I just can’t figure out why they want teachers to be packing but they won’t let their own voters have a gun near them.
