If you don’t believe it… fine, but to say its not likely for reggie bush to have done 425 at one time or another is crazy. Reggie Bush is a SOLID 205, while that’s not bodybuilder size that is not little.
I’ve seen many football athletes on max days go over 400 when I was in college and they weren’t even NFL prospects. So what would make it difficult to believe a 205lb below 10% bodyfat elite football player who gets any supplement for free, probably has a nutritionist and multiple trainers who can do 24 reps of 225 have a max of 425?

I’m not gonna say this blogster just pulled numbers out of his ass, but the Will Smith example shows how unreliable these stats are. I remember reading the article in Men’s Health a long time ago that talked about the program Smith used to bulk for I-robot and mentioned that lift. He probably compiled the rest of the numbers through other such second hand accounts.
Matt Leinart probably jokingly said in some interview that he never benches and this author believed him. How the hell did he survive the USC strength program and the NFL combine? Along with the 40 yd dash, the 225 lb bench press is as standard as combine tests come.
Top draft picks don’t have to do every test, some dont’ even have to go to the combine. Most programs do not want their quarterbacks benching too much, because of the damage to the shoulder.

I beg to differ:
Since the NFL combine can determine a players draft ranking, and the ranking determines how much money you’ll make many top draft picks do attend:
Reggie Bush 4.38 40, 225 x 24
Mario Williams 4.66 40, 225 x 35
Brady Quinn - Quarterback 4.73, 225 x24
L. Tomlinson - 4.42, 225 x Guess 100’s?
Yes, Michael Vick didn’t attend the NFL combine and still went #1, but that’s because he was getting stoned while betting on dog fighs, and it was Atlanta Falcons picking. How else would you explain them passing up on Ladainian Tomlinson 2007 NFL MVP.
Who is Michael Vick? Arguably the most gifted athlete ever, with same IQ as Darryl Strawberry. He’s the same guy that tried to sneak Marijuana on a airplane in a water bottle. Really though, was the weed that good. If I made millions of dollars I’d have the weed delivered anywhere I went.
‘That Wasn’t Marijuana, This Is Marijuana’ Sincerely, Michael Vick
Kevin Durant has a 7’ 4.75" wingspan which has to make moving that 185lbs a lot harder. He obviously isn’t that strong yet, but you still can’t realistically compare his numbers to people a foot shorter than him.
The numbers that surprised me from that website were Wilt’s- which I don’t believe, and JaMarcus Russell’s. I figured Russell would be able to do a lot more since he can throw a football 60+ yards off his butt.

I really don’t want to argue too much, but I will tell you why. I have, in about 8 years of steadyish lifting, 5 or 6 different towns through that time and probably 20 gyms that I frequented over that time only seen MAYBE 10 people max 425 raw.
I understand these people aren’t elite level athletes destined for greatness (everyone I have ever seen in the gym that is) like Reggie Bush, but they do hold one thing over him. All of these people that I saw do this lift TRAINED TO BENCH HEAVY; whereas, Reggie probably does not give two shits about where his bench is.
I don’t mean to knock the guy but I just don’t think he has ever done that (not that he never could just that he wouldn’t care). He would be the #5 198 raw bencher in the WORLD this year if he could do that.
He would also be the #14 220 raw bencher in the WORLD this year. I just don’t think its true. I know you will disagree but you asked me.(Facts about raw rankings thanks to Powerliftingwatch.com’s annual lifter rankings which are well worth the twelve dollars to see where you sit).

I believe the thing on George Bush. I’m sure all that wood chopping and brush clearing should keep him pretty strong lol. I don’t believe a few of those lifts though. Like Will Smith benching 385, and Wilt Chamberlain puttin’ up 465. I’d have to see that. Cool read though
I would have liked to have seen Wilt bench also. But I definitely believe it. Below is a copy of a transcript from an MSNBC onlnie interview with Chris Donohue back in 1997. About a third of the way down the question about 465 is brought up. Also Arnold has mentioned that Wilt benched 500 during their workouts for Conan the Destroyer.
