Anyone hear rumors about Half Life 2: Episode 3 ?

Shit man I just got the Orange Box.

Amidst college papers, text books, and genkoyooshi (kanji writing) paper all over my room I just happened to wonder, “What happened to Gordon Freeman when that old white guy stopped time at the end of Half-Life 2?” Did you like Episodes 1 and 2?

Episode 2 is a lot better than episode 1. More fun and a larger variety of environments/situations. Episode 1 is kind of boring.

Also, the level designers stuck in way too many insta-death traps that are undetectable in advance. So, no matter how good you might be at games, it goes down like this:

  1. Walking down tunnel/cave/hallway/whatever
  2. Random mine explodes
  3. Instadeath
  4. Reload
  5. Dodge random mine explosion 1 since you know about it now
  6. Still walking down tunnel/cave/hallway/whatever
  7. Random barrel explosion
  8. Reload
  9. Dodge random mine explosion then random barrel explosion since you know where they are
  10. Rinse and repeat

It feels like the whole game is two steps forward, one step back. Gets kind of old.

Episode 2 is nothing like that. If you’re good at fps, you can shoot/strat your way out of most situations the first time. It’s a lot more like the original hl2 and a lot more fun.

Yep, Episode 1 was basically Half-Life 1.5. Episode 2, on the other hand, was pretty intense and challenging.

---------------------Spoiler---------------

That epic Strider fight at the end of the game was EXTREMELY difficult on the hardest level, at least for me. It just got insane at one point… it took me quite a few tries.

--------------------End Spoiler-----------

Just to spark some discussion, what would everyone put as some of their hardest moments in gaming? I’d say either the Ruby or Emerald Weapons in Final Fantasy VII, the Kurt Zisa fight on Hard mode in Kingdom Hearts, or the final four or so levels of Ninja Gaiden for XBox on its hardest difficulty.[/quote]

  1. I agree on the last 4 levels of Ninja Gaiden. Particularly the 2nd to last boss, those flying skulls kept fucking me up. As a side note I kicked ass at Ninja Gaiden on the hardest difficultly but NG II kiced my ass, I don’t know if it was the cheapness or my atrophied skills, but to save my ego I’ll go with the former.

  2. Super Metroid; it took me FOREVER to figure out to drop a bomb on the glass tube to get me to the next part of the game. I feel like a dumb ass to this day for that.

  3. Final Fantasy Tactics; the whole game. Seriously this game was hard. The battle with when you first encounter wizards, Weigraf, and the last battle was INSANE. This was a game that really stressed character management, having the right party could be the difference between winning and getting fucking destroyed.

The Orange Box has some crazy acheivements on the Xbox 360, and earning those achievement can be down right infuriating. “Keep Off the Sand” is a prime example. Four run thrus on the Sandtraps level and still no success. Getting “Zombie Chopper” was easy and fun by comparison.

I liked HL2 Eps. 1, but agree Eps. 2 is much better. Earning “The One Free Bullet” makes episode 1 even more interesting (yeah, lets call it interesting).

--------------------- Slight Spoiler---------------

Anyone put the garden gnome in the rocket in Episode 2 (Little Rocket Man)? That’s my next achievement project after I knock out another run thru Devil May Cry 4.

“Neighborhood Watch” is going to be a pain too I bet.

--------------------End Slight Spoiler-----------
Orange Box achievements:
http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/half-life-2-the-orange-box/guide/

Act 4 in Gears of War on insane difficulty. My brother and I were co-oping. For some reason we spent 3 hours of game play, and could just not get past where we split up after the courtyard. I went high, he went low. One of us would die and have to start over. Absolutely maddening. Then we beat it the next night on our first try.

Right now the final boss, Sanctus Diabolica, in Devil May Cry 4 is annoying the hell out of me. I get my first two attacks in like clockwork, beat him down to about 1/2 health. Afterwords its like my timing goes out the window and we are stuck in a stupid stalemate with neither of our attacks being effective.

Ninja Gaiden II, Genshin. This bastard keeps coming back. He’s a boss on 4 different levels and each time he comes back tougher than the last. Plus he’s a damn ninja too, so he knows all my tricks.

So DC and Mattel have teamed up to produce a new toy line called DC Universe Infinite Heroes in the 3 3/4" scale. That puts an upcoming Superman on the same scale as GI Joe and the Star Wars figures. I’m betting y’all are thinking the same thing I am.

G.I. Joe + Green Lantern Corps vs. Storm Troopers.

Gentlemen, for those who love the classics:

Earthworm Jim franchise, revived, but stay tuned for which console/handheld:

Worms for the PSP:

Lemmings for the PSP:

I didn’t think anyone else remembered this game. Best game I’ve ever played was FF7, second best is Chrono Trigger. If they do release it on DS, then I’ll pick one up just for this game

Damn man. I’m an achievement whore and all of that, but that Rocket Man one is too insane. I don’t have the perseverence to play through the game again with a little gnome doll, haha.

As for Gears, I was stuck on that exact same damn part! For me, the problem was whoever went upstairs, because there’d either a different amount of enemies, or they’d come out from different areas. That part was so frustrating!

For some reason I blew through Ninja Gaiden II. Granted, I never really got around to beating it on Mentor, but I thought Genshin was actually one of the easier bosses in the game, consistantly. I had a hell of a time with the first form of the Archfiend though… I hate the bow. I just used the old, cheap and dirty “block, block, attack, and dip out” routine. Plus, I love how the scythe owns almost everything in that game except for the Archfiend, pt. 2.

En Sabah Nur: For some reason, Ninja Gaiden II ‘clicked’ better for me. I know the game was overall cheaper, but I thought the health system made the game much more forgiving this go around. I will forever despide ninja dogs, though…

Rocket man is gonna be fun. Something tells me keeping the little punk in the car is gonna try my patience.
“Alex, we’re at White Forrest. Grab the gnome.”… “What do you mean there’s no gnome?”…“I put him in the back seat!”…“But we just drove 50 miles.”…“Awwwww, Fuck!”

That spot in Gears, the upstairs sucks. If its not the wretches, then its the explodey kamikazes, or getting a chainsaw in the back. And Baird is useless up there. Some reason that battle didn’t make the cut for “Top 5 GoW battles” on the Xbox live video.

I was made the first boss’s bitch in both Ninja Gaiden games. Nunchuk dude in NG I and Genshin in NG II. Both were ninjas. Maybe I just suck against ninja bosses. Ninja dogs really suck, then they go and make a Test of Valor filled with ninja dogs. GRRRRR!

Anybody got a favorite boss or enemy they like to fight? I think Credo from DMC 4 is my favorite. A tough bastard, excellent defense, with very well timed counter attacks. All his abilities are honest. Many bosses seem to have that one power that was tacked on just to infuriate the gamer or load the match against the player. Credo doesn’t. And when you beat Credo its because you were better. You didn’t get lucky. You didn’t out last him thru the use of extra lives or special items. You didn’t memorize his attack pattern just to counter in the same predictable way.

Big Daddies from Bioshock would be a close second.

The only reason I would put Crono Triger infront of FFVII, peronaly, is that is poped my perverbial RPG cherry. It was the first RPG I ever played and I would say that is when I really became a gammer

Who could forget that one (you guys ARE talking about the old snes rpg, aren’t you?)…

Good times… Ha, whenever I feel nostalgic, I just open this thread and sure enough there’s someone talking about games from 2 decades ago

Close to the end of Bionic Commando - you’ve got to make a timed shot while falling into the cockpit of a helicopter. If you miss, it’s game over. That was pretty hard.

Legendary Wings for the NES. The entire game was brutality.

If Chrono Trigger was the first rpg you ever played, I’d get some emulators and play through Final Fantasy I, II, III, and Secret of Mana asap.

I’m playing Tactics now (that one slipped under my radar) and the fight with Velius was brutal to the point of lame.

O I played them but CT was my first love(so to speek) I would love to see them do a remake of it like they are doing with FFVII…Man that would be great!

Check this shit out!

Imgur

If I had $300 I might not blow it on this but I sure as hell would think about it!

MOTHERFUCKER!!!

I was playing Fable 2 and the colors on the screen started getting a bit funky so I thought maybe the disc got a scratch on it so I reset ejected the disc and reset the box…now I have no video AT ALL. I only have audio!!! I’ve been looking around on the web and it looks like I’m screwed if it’s not under warranty which I don’t think it is. I think Microsoft is charging $140 to repair this problem. I’m PISSED.

They’re remaking FFVII? Seriously? When is this wonderous event occuring? When’s it being released? What console must I buy to play it? How can I explain to my friends and family that I’m putting them aside for possibly the greatest game ever created?

Will I lose my job for calling in sick for a week so I can play it? Dammit! I need answers!

Not to add insult to injery or anything, but how offten do/have ppl come on here and said their Xbox is fucked up od some one they konw? and how offten do we hear someones PS3 is fucked up?..Im not say’en…Im just say’en

That’s some truly crappy design for that system apparently.

Mine started fucking up last week. It still works, it’s just a pain in the ass getting it to boot up. So I’m waiting on my coffin to arrive from Sony so I can get it replaced.

I hope the turnaround is quick, cause there are several games releasing in the next few weeks I plan on buying.

I’d like them to develop Chrono Trigger 2 and an actual Secret of Mana sequel first. Or maybe another mature FFtactics game, instead of the kiddie plots on all the sequels so far.
