I’ve known people who spent 40+ hours in WoW to “keep up,” and that’s not a life investment I’m looking to make in something not making my rent payment.

That’s what scares me about any MMO. I don’t think I can invest the time in them anymore. I actually hope the upcoming KOTOR MMO sucks just so I never have to waste any time with it.

Wasn’t that one of original selling points of WoW? Remember how there was this XP bonus for users that didn’t login as frequently? It was supposed to allow you to catch up to your friends that were able to play more often. That really didn’t seem to work out, did it?
WoW is probably as close as it’ll ever get to a casual friendly MMO. No matter what, if there’s a persistent world the people who invest more time will get more out of it, and if that ever changes the people that do put in more time will find a game where their time is rewarded. WoW pretty much has it separated though; with the hardcore raiders/pvpers having their niche slot at the top of arena ladders and exploring the absolute peak of content as soon as it releases, while casual people eventually get the same experience through Blizzards balance changes making the same content easier.

The biggest thing is just setting some time aside to reach max level(a few weeks of a little more than casual play, say 2-3 hrs a day). Once you get to level cap you can play very casually and still get plenty out of the game, it’s just that most people on this site are too competitive by nature to see people running around with better gear/arena ratings/etc to not want to do so themselves, which is where the trap lies.

For those who were saying WoW (or any MMO, for that matter) is/was taking up too much of their time, you ain’t got shit on this guy:

http://videogames.yahoo.com/feature/gamer-juggles-over-30-warcraft-characters/1255554

He juggles 36 characters on 11 different computers . . . at one time . . . by himself.

I immediately thought of this:

In the article, he says this:

“It costs me exactly $5711 in subscription costs per year with 36 accounts on the 6 month pay schedule,” he writes. “Not bad considering I’m looking at it like it’s a hobby and there are more expensive hobbies out there than World of Warcraft.”

Like yachting, perhaps. And despite the downturn in the economy, Prepared can’t wait to get his hands on the upcoming Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

“I plan to be at the store when it opens and will purchase 36 copies of it. With tax, it should be about $1500 for all of them.”

Damn!

I do have to admit that his setup is nice though.

Holy shit! What does this guy do for a living?

That doesn’t even look enjoyable, to be honest.

Anyone else besides me buying LittleBigPlanet next week?

There didn’t seem to be any mention of a job. Seriously, could a person with a gaming habit like that even have a job? What kind of social life could this person possibly have?

He’s paying for this stuff somehow though. Independently wealthy maybe?

His eyes must burn if he ever leaves the house. There’s no way he could hold down a meaningful job and keep up that kind of video game habit. He had to have fallen into a shitload of money.

I love video games, but if I don’t think I’ll ever approach this level of dedication/craziness.

I was just about to post this.

Sure they are b/c there will always be ppl at the same lvl as you. But say what you will there hasnt been one good MMO where someone could only play one or two hrs at a time all the time. My dad is 51 and dosent play much during the week but he will spend 7-10 hrs at a time playing Age of Conan on the weekend. Here is how it works…

“Ok I got 1 or 2 quest right here in this area to do so Ill just nock them out then Im done”…“1 1/2 hrs later…“Ok Im done but I only need a little bit more to lvl then Ill get off I swear”…15 mins latter…“Well I lvled but now I got this quest and it right here so Ill bang that out”…someone sends out a “/tell” asking if you want to go run this dungone real quick that you need to do ro has this Item you really want…”/sigh"…you reply…“sure but I only got a little time then I got to log off”…4-5 hrs later…“Damn finally done with that! Sweet Im about to lvl again, Ill top that off then Im REALLY DONE!!!”…and so on…

That is how they fucking get you!!! I dont know how many times I have done that to myself. O sure you say it wont happen to you but it happens to EVERY ONE!! But if you can only get away with playing a few hrs a week then more power to you, B/c you can still play and have fun.

That was my problem with City of Heroes. Saturday afternoon, just getting back home from the gym, what better way to rest than a couple hours flying around Paragon City? Next thing you know it’s midnight and I’m still playing instead of being downtown hitting the bars with friends. Eventually I just dropped MMOs and got my social life back in order.

Yeah I think that happens to a lot of ppl and you have to make yourself put it down.

The guys no ppl(b/c wemon do it to) who juggles 36 characters on 11 different computers at one time by himself are sick and need help b/c that is not normal and not healthy. But ppl do make alot of money selling their char on Ebay and such. I have heard some selling for $1500 and up.

For those that care there is a new JOKER gn out that is being compared to The Killing Joke as far as quality is concerned. Going to have to pick this one up

And speaking of Batman, anyone heard about Arkham Asylum coming out soon? I saw it an IGN a few months ago, but forgot to bring it up.

Looks biiiiitchin.’

The Batman: R.I.P. that’s going on now has a different take on the Joker. A little too Heath ledger, but I think that was unintentional.

No one has done it better than Ledger. I hope they use his performance as the foundation for where they take that character from now on.

That movie was worth watching for Ledger alone. He made the film.

Dude, that Arkham Asylum game looks UNBELIEVABLE. And I am NOT one to be easily impressed…

For PS3 and 360…
