Definitely. I didn’t mind forking up $30 to play almost the exact same game on my DS for the umpteenth time. Worth it!
Which game for the DS is equivalent to Mario 64? I am not familiar with the DS catalog.
Shit, I might end up buying the handheld for that game alone…[/quote]
If you’re going to get a DS, here’s some games to look out for. I’m not big on RPGs, so can’t really recommend any.
New Super Mario Bros. is a lot of fun. Again, not a lot of new material here, but still required playing if you’re going to get a DS.
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Seems opinion on this game is love or hate. I, for one, love the game. You control everything with the stylus and it responds well. The boss battles aren’t that difficult, so I think perhaps people’s gripes had more to do with the ease in which they could complete the game, rather than how it played.
Advance Wars: Dual Strike and Days of Ruin
I had never played a turn-based strategy before and wasn’t sure what I was getting into. But let me tell you, if you want to get your money’s worth out of a game purchase, get your hands on either of these. I actually perfer Days of Ruin because the gameplay isn’t overpowered as it is in Dual Strike, where the CO Powers border on cheese by the end of the game. It’s easy to sink a good 2-3 hours into this game without thinking about it.
Super Princess Peach
A fun platformer.
Trauma Center: Under The Knife
A very challenging, but rewarding, game that also uses stylus controls.
Mario Kart
Don’t really need to say much. It’s Mario Kart.
I’m playing Ninja Gaiden right now and it’s a lot of fun. Another stylus-heavy game, the combat is very responsive. I also really enjoyed Hotel Dusk and Trace Memory; those are text-based adventures with puzzle solving.
I’ve heard good things about Sonic Chronicles (Sonic Rush is really fun) and Final Fantasy IV (considering) and Dragon Quest IV (also considering)
The Castlevania series is solid.
If you like sports, look out for Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff, which is due out in a few weeks.
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is due out this winter and soudns really promising.
Hope that helps a little. Again, sorry about the non-RPG recommendations, but I don’t play those games (although I am trying to get into the genre)

I enjoyed it and found the story engaging. It’s supposed to be a trilogy of games where you should be able to use your character from one game into the next.
You make your character male/female and can either customize your guy or use the one default person. I prefer customizing my own guys, and you can choose different options here that give you different little side missions and changes the story a little bit.
3 basic classes, biotic (think force like powers), engineer and regular soldier type, then there are 3 other classes that are a mix of the 3 basics. My first profile was an infiltrator(a sniper type with some engineer skills), my 2nd was a soldier(tank), and my 3rd was the biotic type(weak at first until you get some more skills). You can also choose to be good or evil like KOTOR 1 and 2, so you can be a complete asshole and threaten everyone or just a hero type. I did my first guy as a good guy, 2nd as a bad and 3rd as whatever was funnier.
On Xbox Live you are supposed to be able to download an expansion pack that gives you another world/missions which takes place prior to the end of the game.
FFX gets a bad rap for the main character being such a wuss at times. If you let yourself get past that it’s actually one of the better in the franchise IMO, the SIN storyline is well done, and the system they used for magic/stats was good. Maybe a tad on the easy side if you abused a skill here and there but that’s pretty normal for any RPG, the side games help up the difficulty though like any other square title.
FF9 I just really didn’t like, it really felt like they were trying to rehash old games into one new mishmash, and it’s too bad cause the story was actually really good, odd for square to fall short on the gameplay department =[. I think it’s relative failure was a big reason for FFX being so unlike any previous title in the series.

Nah, that wasn’t me. I LOVED Mass Effect. I plan on playing it again.
Fallout 3 looks impressive.
Mass Effect sounds short…was it?

Yeah, it felt on the shorter side, but I don’t think that was a drawback at all. The story was very good. Plus, with it being shorter, it’s not a huge deal to play through it again with different choices to see what happens.

I’ve heard that the next game is going to shock people when they first play it because something in the story has changed a lot, or something like that. Anyone else heard this?

I never finished FFX, but I heard there was a pretty epic battle in it… whatever the huge thing was. Nothing will ever compare to the Weapons (Ruby, Emerald in particular,) from FFVII.
As for FFIX, I thought the story was decent, but it seemed like the game was incredibly short. I’m a big completionist guy, and I distinctly remember well under 50 hours of gameplay to do everything.
Still haven’t played FFXII — Worth it?
If anyone’s into anime type stuff, have a look at this story:
http://www.ninjai.com/chapters/
12 chapters, and it’s pure awesome. I thought it fit loosely into the context of this thread.

I have to admit I didn’t even know they were planning a sequel (not that I should be surprised that they are).
I did see that it’s been optioned for a movie though.
It has potential based on the story, but if they do this low budget, then it will be terrible.

A movie would be great…just don’t f it up!
Info about the game in general:
I loved VII but I think X was just as good and ground breaking. Now if a play and RPG that doesnt have vocie action in it its a fail. X-2 on the other hand was the worst FF of all time!! VIII and IX I dont think get enough credit and I think were the best look PSOne games one the system. I would also say that XII was the best looking game on the PS2. I loved the hunting bit of the game and would like to see it back or some thing like it.
FFXIII ans FF Vs. XIII look really really good

I love Bioware, their new game Dragon Age looks like it wont disapoint either

I really do think they are up there with Blizzard. There isnt anything they dont do well their game play and music score always stands out to me. O and the story as well
For you Halo fans out there the new campaine has been named
The vedio looks cool
I’m not sure what Recon is going to be about. I’m very curious, it looks to be like it might be a FPS from the standpoint of a ODST as Master chief hasn’t been seen at all yet.

Good buy…or piece of crap?

I think that depends on how much you intend to use it but if its something you would get a lot of use out of go for it

I used to carry one with me all of the time. There’s a long story behind that, but it means I have some great moments on film from like 6-8 years ago that I’m glad I had a camera for. I was just thinking of going back to carrying one.
Having one that didn’t take up as much space as the one I had before would be a benefit.
