It’s real time, but you can pause combat to use powers and skills. Most battles don’t really last too long.

Wow, I finally just read the article about Mirror’s Edge in my new(ish) EGM! The game looks fucking AWESOME!
That does look cool. Anyone else look at a game like that or when playing a game and looking over a edge, you get that weird feeling for a second like [i]you[i] are the one that’s going to die if you fall off the ledge?

The first game I ever remember playing and getting that feeling was a game called Jumping Flash!. I doubt anyone here has even heard of the game, but a demo was included on the disk that came with the system if you bought a first-generation Playstation.
Anyway, the game involves you playing this little robotic rabbit that could jump to ridiculous heights in a first-person 3D world (a very cheesy one at that, but fun). I remember getting a rush of adrenaline the first time I was falling from really high up. I was addicted to the game simply for that feeling. I ended up buying the game and its sequel.

I remember the first time I really played Super Mario 64 was like that. It was the first truly immersive 3D game I had really played, and falling off ledges was intense, or even looking over them.
A bit off topic, but does anyone remember that huge fish with the sunglasses in Mario 64? I think it was in the Big/Small level. I use to be terrified of that damn thing!

Dude I remember that fucking game! I even had the demo disc it came on! Damn I’m getting old…
Kotor was the shit. I liked both of them, the 2nd one had a lot of potential in the story department but its rushing hindered it. I thought someone trying to kill the force was a pretty cool concept.
Has anyone else seen the trailer for the new “Iron Man: Armored Adventures?” I think it looks bad ass…
I cant think of any game that I played through more than the first KotOR. I cant wait to hear some kind of news on the Bioware/Lucast Arts collaboration. The word on the street is its an KotOR MMO, but if you look at Biowares web site it has the Lucas Arts game and their MMO listed as two different games…sneaky sneaky
Where is Bond when I need him…Speaking of I cant wait to see that next month either
I just got around to watching the new Clone Wars. I dig it.
For those who are interested in Resident Evil 5:
(might have to right click on video formats to play)

Looking pretty good…next to MGS4,this is what I’ve been waiting for.

Yeah I got burnt out on the 4th disc and took a month break from it. I eventually finshed but majority of good rpg’s you will put 50+ hours. Anyone play kotor 1 or/and 2?
Of course! Heh, played as a light side male and a dark side female in 1 and then a light side female and a dark side male in 2.
Definitely some of the greatest games ever. I’m going to check out if the original KOTOR is on Live Arcade, I never really got too far into it before I lost the game. I remember the second one being good, but a lot of people said the first was better.
I loved both games, but I thought the first one was way better. Just a better story overall. The second one just didn’t have the same hold on me that the first one did.[/quote]
Yeah story was def. better in the first and when you found at you were revan was a huge twist. Even though the first had a better story I liked the Kotor 2’s gameplay better.

Mario 64 will remain one of the most ground breaking games of all time. Truly memorable.

Ugh…This doesn’t not look good. I’m having a hard time liking the newer CG cartoons. I just don’t like the way they look. Anyone remember the latest attempt at Spiderman? Horribly done.

Definitely. I didn’t mind forking up $30 to play almost the exact same game on my DS for the umpteenth time. Worth it!

Which game for the DS is equivalent to Mario 64? I am not familiar with the DS catalog.
Shit, I might end up buying the handheld for that game alone…

Super Mario 64 . . . DS. Original, I know.
It really is worth the buy, for the memories alone if nothing else. The differences are minimal. It doesn’t quite present the same effect on such a small screen as the original, but it’s still a lot of fun.
EDIT: I also highly, highly, highly recommend picking up Final Fantasy VI if you’re going to pick up a DS. Most FF purists (translation: fanboy geeks) like me still consider that the best one Square ever made. If you can get past the outdated graphics and put the game into context regarding how innovative it was for its time, it’s one of the best RPGs ever made. The story is incredible, as well.
Many people who didn’t play FF before VII can’t get past the graphics, however. For shame.

Yeah, it’s a good buy, really. It does have 30 extra power stars, a shit load of mini-games, and the ability to play as Yoshi, Wario, or Luigi in the story mode. It’s pretty fun, but controls didn’t translate too well.
Goddamnit. So I want to buy a DS, a PSP, a DSLR rig with decent lens, an external 500 GB 2.5" drive for my laptop as backup, and some lifting gear. Oh, and a blender.
Man…why can’t some of that bailout money go…‘missing,’ like into my checking account?

I have heard that FF VII was the last of the great FF franchise. I remember VII on my PC and loved it, though I played only briefly. I remember Phantasy Star on Sega and that was awesome.
I’m looking for Sci-Fi RPGs and nothing turn-based. FF is the exception…
Appreciate any recs for ANY system: console, handheld or computer.

VII was great, but VI is still better in my opinion.
I don’t quite agree with many old-school FF fans who say that Square “sold out” beginning with VII and started worrying more about graphics than gameplay and storyline. I personally thought VII, VIII, and XII all had fairly engaging storylines and innovative gameplay.
That being said, VI still had the best storyline because it involved so many “main characters”, as opposed to just one like pretty much every FF game since. Yes, there are always several characters involved, but the story really only revolves around one person. Not so with VI. For that reason, it will always be tops for me.
NBA2k9 today. Dead Space and Fallout 3 soon too. So many games, so little time.

I liked FF X wasn’t a big fan of IX or VIII(didn’t even finish it). FFXII was ok, although I have to say I felt a bit letdown in the end, the story wasn’t engaging enough, the gameplay was fine and fun but I just didn’t get into as much.
Mass Effect is a sci-fi RPG mixed in with some FPS elements. I know some of the complaints about it but I’ve played it 3 times already. I’ve heard the one for the PC is better than the console because they fixed a few things that people complained about in the orginal release.
