As far as the 360 rehaul is concerned, I think it’s fucking terrible that Microsoft is conforming to the bullshit ‘family standards’ set by the Wii. Yeah, we can still keep out blade configurations, but fuck… the new avatars are the EXACT same thing as Miis, except more proportionate.
When our most hardcore gaming console turns ghey, we have some serious problems.

I think the PS3 is more hardcore overall - give it more games and better online play and it’s king.

Agreed. I love this system. I just need more games.
Ooooh Olivia Munn what a cutie… G4 is awsome especially attack of the show…
Oh BTW Prof. X, if your into video games some of the times like for certain titles, I don’t think that qualifies someone into the “GEEK Category” by just liking video games. I sometimes like playing games like Madden 09 and NBA Live, but it doesn’t mean we’re geeks!

I’ve said since the first post that I’m “part Geek”. You won’t find toys in my apartment but there are quite a few Superman and Batman related icons. I like video games and I am definitely a tech junkie in that I like gadgets.
I consider true geeks the guys sitting at home watching Star Trek re-runs for the billionth time while hiding their 100 extra pounds of chubby body weight from the world in their toy filled apartments where sex never occurs.

How so? The bulk of 360’s 1st person and main title games have been geared towards adults FAR more than PS3. I’ll try and dig up the rating and age preference averages article, though it may have been in an old magazine instead of the internet.
Plus, reread what you wrote. It’s like saying “Nothing beats my Dodge Camaro. If I put more horse power and a GPS inside, THEN it’ll be better than the Porsche.”

Yes, I made the Camaro and Porsche comparison on purpose.
Not quite.
As it stands solely from a console point of view, the PS3 is better no doubt. Silent, built in wireless, upgradeable hard drive and Blu-Ray. I mean HD-DVD isn’t even built into the 360.
If the they were to ever add Blu-Ray, you’d probably pay a good US$200 for it.
A software upgrade can be easily done for the PS3 to give it better online play which is already free, and the games depend on developers - not the physical console.
I bought a 360 out of brand loyalty and because it had more games on offer at the time. If I did a bit more research (I did do a fair amount but not enough) I would’ve realised the wireless was not included and that you cannot copy to the console and would have bought a PS3 instead.

X-Box got the jump on game manufacturers right out of the gate. I would not want to be one of those who chose an X-Box for that reason 2 or 3 years later when the “game gap” has closed. The PS3 is simply a better machine overall. I honestly don’t see them needing a true major upgrade for at least another 4 years or more and even then, they should be able to make it available through direct download instead of needing a whole new system.
How long did we play the PS2 before they upgraded? 6 or 7 years?

I just bought Viking. I’ll let you know how that is by tomorrow night.
I like Spiderman 3 for no other reason than the graphics are great and I like swinging around New York free roaming.

Hey. I consider myself a full-out geek and I do watch star trek reruns and I do have a house full of toys, electronic, lego mindstorms and enough pc parts to build an army of small robots but the other parts are not in my version of the definition. I only have one console though and that’s a wii. The real evidence is that I was excited to see a program crash at a pointer with my name in it’s address-> 0xFFFFFFFF0000DEBB
Anything related to computers, electronics, comic books, toys and gadgets qualifies as geekery IMO. But the chubby sexless part is what gets into nerd territory. Perhaps having an opinion on it puts me into the nerd category though Well that and being aroused at the proper use of a semi-colon I shall shut up now.

LOL!
I think we need more concrete definitions of nerd and geek.
I thought nerds were uncoordinated introverts who like to study a lot.
I thought geeks were tech heads who are more likely to simply hack into the school system and change the grade later.

I found this site that might help a little:
Going by that website, I’m definitely more Geek than Nerd. Maybe 70/30?
XBOX 360 Live Updates - amongst the mentioned updates, rumour also has it that we will finally be able to copy content onto the hard drive via the USB and possibly over the network connection.
Awesome fucking news!
Why would you do that when the HDD doesn’t go over 120 GB and you can’t install a 3rd party HDD of your own that is LARGER than 120 GB AND have the system recognize this larger capacity? THAT to me is a shitty move by M$.
As it stands, you should be able to play content off your external device attached to the 360 via USB, so I don’t understand the utility of this update.
To me, a nerd is someone that is only concerned with their passion and wears this on their sleeve.
Like a bookworm or a physics/science ‘nerd,’ you only see them ever involved in something that concerns this interest.
A geek is someone that gets into something and follows it intimately, but who is not ultimately defined by any obsession.
I talked about building that home theater remote controlled shit, but the more astute will note that I enjoy building things IN GENERAL, not because I have wet dreams of bandwith and codecs.

Can you explain?
Well at the moment I have pretty much nothing other than save games on the 120gb drive - it’s going to be handy to keep my music and movies on there instead of keeping an external plugged in all the time.
Agreed that is was a shitty move by MS, but hell I’ll probably get myself a PS3 at some stage too.
I’ll be interested to see what else will be in the list of new features.
Edit:
Also, you will be able to copy games to the drive for faster loading purposes.
Yes, but you know you can stream music and videos wirelessly, right? Hence, deflating a bit of the celebration over storing this content locally
My roommate would do this and it worked great and kept the local HDD clear for demos and some random stuff.
I guess it depends on how much music you have.
Also, I am curious if they will EVER allow people to install larger HDDs, IF M$ still intends on bringing IPTV to the masses; the greater capacity would be useful for DVR capabilities, and shows in HD take up a ton of space.
