Prof, you still playing Assassins Creed - that is if you have electricity your way?

I’m just getting stuck into a session now since work has been keeping me away from the games.

I love that game. I don’t even understand people saying it’s boring. It took me 4 tries to kill one of those guys because my strategy had to be to take out about 30 guards on the top of a building so that I couldn’t be surrounded after sneaking in with a group of monks.

Maybe those who claim they hate it had it set on the easiest setting. The environment in this game is so realistic compared to other things I’ve played, I just think it should get more attention.

Agree.

I’m still running around the rooftops assasinating the guards one by one - and slowly I’m able to take on more and more enemies at one time.

Prince of Persia looks like it’s going to be similar, and it’s definitely on my list of what to get next:

Well I really want to get a 80GB PS3 now. But i’m confused, i’ve read a few reviews on Amazon/Gamespot/Game.

Some people appear to have a problem with the lack of a memory card reader in the 40gb and 80gb versions of the PS3. Can’t you just save to the hard drive?

Also there are complaints of there being only 2 USB ports(over the 4 ports the now extinct 60gb PS3 offered), but I think that 2 ports would be more than enough.

And what about the controllers, they are wireless right? So if 4 controllers are being used it doesn’t matter if you have 2 USB ports or 4.

Help me out people

I’m not sure about the memory card reader. My 40 GB doesn’t have one, but I don’t recall if the other models did. That’s really not an important feature to me though, so I’ve never really cared. The save games use the hard drive, so that’s all I really need.

The 40GB only has 2 USB ports, but it does support 4 wireless controllers, so again, this really isn’t an issue for me. The only time I need to use the USB ports are when I charge my controllers. I take that back, I’m using one of the USB ports for the dongle for my wireless remote, but even then I only need the other USB port for charging the controllers.

It actually supports SEVEN wireless controllers. I have the 40 gig also. My remote doesn’t use a USB port.

Right now, I only use the USB port for my flash drive so I can listen to music through it. From what I understand, they have a wireless keyboard you can attach through the USB.

You can hook up 7 controllers using the same USB port.[/quote]

Thanks guys. AngryVader what do you use the remote for? And the USB port is only used to charge things and/or to hook up other gadgets right?

Prof X so you don’t regret buying your 40gb PS3 over the 60gb or 80gb version? what about the problem with not being able to play PS2 games?

The remote is for the DVD functionality. I use my PS3 as my primary DVD player now, along with Blu-Ray. You can use the regular controllers for this, but it’s clunky.

I don’t regret buying the 40GB version. The new 80GB wasn’t available when I bought mine anyway. I only own a handful of old PSOne and PS2 games and still have a working PS2, so backward compatibility didn’t really mean much to me.

Same with me. My PS2 is still hooked up so there is no need for backwards compatibility.

Not to mention that after playing the PS3, the previous version is now “primitive” in comparison. I mean, how many people are still playing their PS1?

Man, the new Prince of Persia dude needs to bulk.

I hope the fighting system remains sweet. The Two Thrones was awesome - with the speed kill feature - and even though I’m hating the ‘illustrated look’ the more I see screenshots, I am willing to give UbiSoft the benefit of the doubt and wait until the game is released.

Probably the most out-of-box thinking game company right now. Blizzard is equally consistent in their epic releases.

I would put Bioware up there with Blizzard too. But I havent played any of the other PoP games and want to play this on b/c of the way it looks. Cell shading always looks really awesome to me when done right and wish it was done more often.

As far as the PS3 goes I got the 80gig and couldnt me more pleased. I got rid of most of my PS2 games any way so I dont really need the BC either. But I have my PC hooked up to my TV any way so I dont really worry about putting movies or music on it so I have more than enough room…and who the hell needs a memory card any way? if you need to transfer save data you can save it to a flash drive.

Lastly, I beat the Force Unleashed today and couldnt have been more pleased. Yes it was a little short and there were things in the book that they could have added to the game to make it longer. I would have liked to have seen his visions and his real name, I think that would have made the sorry even better than it was. Finally the camera and fighting other Jedi/Force users could have used alittle refinement. All-in-all I would give the game an 8/10, I still think that Jedi Knight and Jedi Outcast are the best Star Wars games ever but Lucas Arts needs to take this new game engine and run with it.

There is so much that SW fans want them to tell that are outside the general knowledge of what 99% of ppl know, that I think that 99% would very much enjoy to learn about. I would love to see them take The New Jedi Order and make it into 4 or 5 games or I, Jedi(the only SW book told in 1st person) is already set up to be the perfect game. It traverses the whole galaxy, deals with a person trying to find his own path as a Jedi…O, and he has to save his wife from miss guided Dark Jedi “relics”, if you will, left over from the Clone Wars.

Who do I have to talk to to make this happen?

I don’t live too far away from headquarters. If you ever make it out this way, we can try to sneak in.

You know that sounds like a good idea but I bet there have been many a nerd try to sneak into The Ranch and never been heard from again. The Great Escape comes to mind

I really can’t wait to have the money for a nice DSLR system. Looking at the D80 (would kill for a D300), used, and a Tamron 17-50mm lens. If I can get the Nikon 16-85 VR, that’d be nice but I prefer the constant F2.8 of the Tamron and it got fantastic reviews. I also love that Nikon released an AF-S version of the 50mm F1.4 G.

Now, if I can put together a Mac rig that’s quadcore, 8 GB RAM (2 per core) and RAID 0 on a couple of SSDs, I’d wet myself.

That’s probably two years off.

AngryVader,

Two friends of mine in France are game producers for UbiSoft. Another friend is an art director for EA in San Mateo. But I hate EA with a passion

I had a friend that was a game tester over at EA. He said it sucked and quit after a year. It wasn’t a good job in general and he said always playing a game in a broken state really ruined gaming for him for a while.

Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to work in the gaming industry though.

I’m not surprised. I heard Trip Hawkins was an asshole and still is over at Digital Chocolate.

My friend at EA said the shitty thing is how companies hire an entire crew for a game project then let them all go once the project is over. Zero job security and everyone is always expendable. Almost like the acting scene.

One of my UbiSoft friends worked on Black & White. I saw a special on TV about their Montreal office being one of the most state of the art in the world. Plus, Montreal has some of the hottest chicks. We should make a trip some day…

I thought Too Human was pretty decent overall. There were some glaring weakness in the game though and it seemed to have been hit by the “rush at the last second to get the game done” that a lot of games seem to be suffering from lately.

The story was semi-weak I was expecting more, the gameplay I found fun, once I learned the controls a little better. Sometimes the gameplay just got irritating as heck when dying a LOT because you’re surrounded by a mob as well as getting shot at from ranged attacks. That got irritating. The boss fights seemed fairly easy compared to some of the regular fights in the game.

Sorry if this has been discussed–this is a long-ass thread–but does anyone have an idea of what the system requirements are going to be for Fallout 3? From the demo, I’d guess you’d need a mammoth system.

I believe an Xbox or a PS3 will do just fine.

Okay, kidding aside, this is what I’ve found:

“We won’t know for sure until we are much closer to the game’s release. Until then Bethesda won’t speculate on what kind of processor or video card you might need[5]. But the processor requirments were hinted to be about 2.5 GHz minimum and about 3.2 GHz recommended.”

I suppose it wouldn’t be anything crazy over and above what most of todays high-end PC games demand.

I imagine a dual-core 2.6ghz, 3-4gb ram, fast HDD and a 512mb 9600PRO or higher would fit the bill.

Christ, it comes out next month. How much closer do they need to be? Oh well, I’ll probably have to upgrade no matter what.

That was ultimately why I got frustrated with the game and took it back. You’re trying to fight off a mob that has you surrounded, yet you’re somehow also taking damage from ranged attacks that doesn’t seem to affect the mob surrounding you.

When you’d resurrect, it would take WAY too long and you couldn’t skip past the animation (dumb). Plus, sometimes they’d respawn you right in the middle of the mob that just killed you, so you were almost certain to die again at the same exact spot.

I think I’m going going to go the 360 or PS3 route for Fallout 3. Although I do need a new computer soon, I think I’m going to wait until closer to Starcraft 2’s or Diablo 3’s release to get a new PC. I wonder if they are going to have a demo for Fallout 3 before release?

This is why I play most of my games on consoles. I hate a great game coming out and have to shell out $200 - $300 additional dollars just to play it.

Fuck that.

I figure it’s time to upgrade anyway. The computer I use at home is not very powerful, so I can’t play most of the games everyone is always talking about. But I’ve been waiting for Fallout 3 since I heard about it last year and it looks way too sick to skip.

Why do you hate consoles so much?

What did an X-box/PS3 ever do to you, huh!?
