Honestly, it lacks the depth that San Andreas had. The activities are limited, It’s still a great overall experience.

Yes, I agree with most of this. I don’t know if I just matured a lot, but it seems like all those things that use to be fun weren’t as much so anymore. Yes, it was hilarious the first time I beat some poor asshole up in GTA IV and watched them slowly hobble away, but there were no jet packs!

I still say they essentially just port San Andreas to 360.

I just got it…and I think I know what the problem is. There is no connection between this character and an American audience. Even with San Andreas, I think most of us could relate to the main character to some degree.

This game will probably be received even better overseas because of that.[/quote]

I like Niko, but you make a good point.

This is a very good game it just has a slightly different vibe than SA & Vice City. More grit, less camp.

I think the GTA games are best when they have a whimsical retro setting.

I am hoping they go with another retro setting for the next game.

There have been rumors of a 70’s Blaxpliotation theme.

Can you dig it?!

Did someone say retro?

I connected with Niko on the level of being an immigrant to this country and just being overwhelmed by the pace and speed of NYC. What GTA:IV lacks is the sense of size. Yes NY is depicted very accurately in this game but we went from having the HUGE sandbox that San andreas provided to being stuck in NY and Jersey.

I wanted to do all the things that were available to me in SA. I wanted to compete in an Iron Man competition I wanted to Sky Dive (with a parachute), I wanted to ride bikes, and compete in a mountain bike race. I wanted to work out and learn different fighting styles. I also didn’t want to have to take a man out on a date every couple hours in order to get him to be my “friend”.

The story in GTA:IV is excellent and the choices you face in this game actually had me stop and think and question my character and what would I do in this situation if I were Niko. I found myself being sympathetic in many situations and showing mercy. It made me really give my morals a reality check. So in that aspect it is an excellent game and worthy of praise. It just loses its luster after you have ran through the story line.

They really did a good job of imitating NYC.

My wife was born and raised in Fort Green, Brooklyn…she can walk by the TV, look at the screen and tell where I would be in real life.

Did anyone notice how much the Alderney strip club looks like the Bada-Bing?

This is a good post, and I can’t agree more. The game was great fun and incredibly detailed to boot, but it didn’t have that overwhelming sense of “Damn, there’s a LOT of shit to do” like San Andreas had. I think we all just got too pampered by GTA:SA. I do plan on going back through and getting all of the non-multiplayer achievements on IV, though, maybe that’ll change my opinion a bit. It’s still definitely a great game, though.

I never really got into the GTA games. A friend of mine got 3 when it first came out on PS2 and I would play or watch him play for 20-30 min and have to turn it off, just wasnt for me. I really wanted to like it but just couldnt.

Anyway I was up ALL day Fri. and Sat playing MGS4 and if you have ever played the MGS games before you owe it to yourself to play this game. I have played alot of games in my day and Metal Gear has THE BEST story of any game series I have ever had the privilege…no, the Pleasure of playing.

Final Fantasy VII/X, God of War, Halo, Fable or Devil May Cry nothing I can think of even comes close to MGS. I cant count the # of time I was saying “NO SHIT!” to my self playing this game, even up till the very last little bit of the last cinematic I was still saying “NO FUCKING SHIT! NO WAY!”

A screen shot from Final Fantasy Versus XIII. I know your either someone who plays Japanese RPGs or your not. But if you like a good story there arent many games better than Final Fantasy. There is actually going to be a Final Fantasy XIII and a Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Going to be two different game with two unrelated stories other than that they take place in the same “world”.

WAR is coming.

Anyone else like to waste their lives on MMO’s?

Preview weekend was this past weekend, the game was really fun, even with the bugs. The PvE side of things was very similar to WoW but without all the running for hours. The whole world is very compact and it’s a good thing. RvR was also tons of fun, scenarios and open world RvR was a blast. The way collision detection works and the teamwork required is gonna make this game playable for a while.

Open beta starts September 7th. Release is September 15th (95% sure)

I felt somewhat unsatisfied after finishing XII.

The endding was alittle week bit it was a good game over all

RE: FFXII

That’s what I thought as well. I just felt a bit cheated after sinking 125+ hours into the game.

I’m still looking forward to FFXIII and think the whole way they are approaching the next square enix games is interesting.

I still wish Vanguard: Saga of Heroes ended up being the game it should/could have been.

I’ve heard a ton about vanguard, I think it had crazy potential, but maybe it was too complicated/huge.

The thing I liked about Warhammer was the emphasis on RvR and not one on one PvP or PvE. That’s all I ever did in WoW anyway, spending hours every night of the week to get a chance at phat lewtz wasn’t my thing. I rather spending hours killing people where I’m guaranteed the phat lewtz eventually.

Age of Conan is getting some positive feedback as well.

It take’s a crazy computer to run that on decent settings. I heard from other beta tester’s a quad core is a must.

If you wanna dance, you gotta pay the band.

There is a nother new game coming out called little big planet. It looks pretty cool. It is supposed to be a good game, good graphics and good game play.

It looks like a New Age Super Mario Brothers.

Eh…that’s all I got to say.

I have a brand new Macbook Pro with a few upgrades from the stock model, and I ran AoC pretty flawlessly. It was beautiful.

But, the game wasn’t that fun. The minimap was annoying, and the quests told you EXACTLY where to go, and what to do, it kind of took away the fun part of figuring it out. Everything is instanced, and there are copies of each zone, so you could be in the same chat channel for the zone, but you each could be in a different one. So it gets very confusing.

Also you are ported everywhere, no running except inside the zone. It killed immersion for me.

Combat was fun, I will give it that, and it’s not perfect and has tons of potential.

I never made it to end game, but from what I’ve read, it’s lacking a lot. No end game PvP, no end game PvE? How do they plan on keeping people interested?

I think AoC could have been the real ‘next-gen’ MMO, but funcom fucked it up. I fully regret spending 50 bucks for it, but at least the first month was free. :-\
