To go with the geek theme, a couple of my all time favorites are Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card and Dune by Frank Herbert. I just ordered a few comics based on Ender’s Game, so we’ll see if they are worth reading.
I’m liking Augusten Borroughs (caution: gay sex alert) right now, and dig a few chick-type authors that I will assume won’t interest you. What kind of books do you like? I’ll look through my bookshelf later today (I’m only up this early waiting for the damn animals to eat) to see if I have recommendations.

Read…
“The brothers Karamazov” by Feodor Dostoevsky- It’s a long and winding story about a REALLY fucked up Russian family. It starts off hilariously and I was on the verge of tears at the end.
“Wind-Up Bird Chronicle” by Haruki Murakami- It’s pretty long as well and it revolves around a the life of an average japanese man whose life gets thrown completely out of wack. This is just a little sample.
B"ad things come in threes for Toru Okada. He loses his job, his cat disappears, and then his wife fails to return from work. His search for his wife (and his cat) introduces him to a bizarre collection of characters, including two psychic sisters, a possibly unbalanced teenager, an old soldier who witnessed the massacres on the Chinese mainland at the beginning of the Second World War, and a very shady politician."
“A thousand splendid suns” by Khaled Hosseini- It’s a story set in the middle east that describes the life of a young muslim girl born an outcast from society( daughter from extramarital affair) that just gets worse and worse through forced polygamy and almost slave like conditions. An all too accurate portrait of the lives of tens of thousands of muslim women. A real window into another world.
“The kite runner” by Khaled Hosseini- Another story set in the middle east(Afghanistan if I remember correctly) that follows the lives of two boys who are practically brothers forced to live in different worlds. A story of friendship, religious fundamentalism, and politics of the middle east.

Sorry about the late reply applesauce, I try to keep up but people post when I least expect it. You can skip the training stage without any issues although you get an achievement for beating it. I’ve beaten the game twice on normal, and hard. It’s been a fun and refreshing experience.
I’ve also gotten around 23 stars on the time trials and I’ve yet to do the freeruns for the stages so all in all I’d say that the game has at LEAST 18 hours of replay.
I’m already on Chapter 7 (The boat). The first 2 chapters were frustrating because I’m not use to the controls, but once I got them down it’s pretty fuck awesome. I’m definitely going to trophy whore this game for that platinum trophy, lol.
The time trials are crazy tough if you don’t look for cheats and routes on the internet though. I have to repeat stages constantly looking for shortcuts and then spend even more time fine tuning my moves to get the best time possible.

I’ve been reading the “Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes” trades, does that count?

So just doing some more browsing, at the moment this seems like one of the better receivers I’ve come across - 7.1, 4 HDMI’s, 7x100w & 1080p. Around $800. Any good?
All electronics here are almost double what they are in the States, it’s crap - a Denon receiver that costs $750 is almost 550pounds here.
Do you guys get HD radio and Sirius radio? Some receivers have both of those built in as well. If you can find one and you get enough broadcasting of such channels, get it.

Not as far as I’m aware, what’s so special about it anyway?

CD quality audio, no static, minimal commercials, HUNDREDS of channels.
Satellite radio is amazing…
Have you had any reception issues since the Sirius/XM merger? We’ve got Sirius in the car, and it seems to take forever to acquire a signal lately, and it cuts out more often as well.

I had to skip chapter 2 because it was pissing me off to no end. Seems everytime I had a perfect run going she would fuck up and miss a vault or fall off a building during the chase sequence. I’m going to work on time trials and then go back to speed runs, or start buying new controllers.
i know im late but ive spent the last 5 hours playing gow 2, fucking amazing game…sadly its almost 1am on a tuesday night so me and my mate decided too call it a night
wow did I manage too kill this thread? Has anyone watched the new transformers animated series? I’ve tried multiple times and all that happens is I get a taste of vomit in my mouth, I mean what the hell? I grew up with optimus prime, bumblebee, starscream and megatron.
I was stoked when I saw the movie and it exceeded my expectations, then I bought the original animated movie and relived possibly the most tragic event in my childhood(optimus prime dying)…why can’t they make cartoons like they used too

Except for the Clone Wars cartoon, Cartoon Network has fucked up cartoons and the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon has fucked up every thing else!!
It started with half ass crap like Power Puff Girls and Dexter’s Lab. Now every thing,(with few exceptions like Avatar) everything has that flat look to it. Can no one draw anymore?
And this isnt really the place for it but The Disney channel is nothing more than a PIMP and if I had kids I would NEVER let them watch that shit. That goes for Sponge Bob too. If Hanna Montana were to drop dead reading this right now the world would be a better place.

It might have something to do with the mountains. A friend of mine had the same problem with his; he eventually got rid of it.

The only other Transformers cartoon I liked was Beast Wars. The newer ones are pretty awful, Energon, this latest style…etc
Now Im not a very tech savvy person and dont go in for the cool new gadgets very often. How ever I saw The Amazon Kendle while I was at work last night and thought it was awesome.
Now no one will care about this unless you do a lot of reading of novels, textbooks, magazines, Newspapers ect. At $360+ the price is about $100-$150 to expensive but I really, really want one. I sure could have used it last night when I finished the book I was reading and didnt have any thing else to read.
I actually don’t use any file-sharing progs anymore… If I want to play something, I buy it. I used to dl everything back when nobody cared about that in Germany, but now that they really are on the lookout and a whole bunch of people (some living not too far away from me) have been taken to court for even minor stuff, I won’t do anything illegal anymore. Not worth the trouble and I earn enough to pay for my games and music… (not that I have all that much time for gaming, anyway).
I’m the same way now. I could justify it when I was a broke student, but I can’t now…and the viruses you end up getting from many of them eventually ruin your computer.

I’ve never had this happen. I’ve never downloaded from bit torrent and gotten anything by the game I wanted.
Common sense plays a role too though, you don’t download halo3windowsfullpackagemasterchief.rar.exe (32kb)and open it.

I only used file sharing for music when in school. I got a serious virus from it that killed one of my computers at the time. Most of those file names were simply the name of the song you wanted. There was no clue what you downloaded until you hit “play”.
