Geek S**T

I played GoW 2 last night. I left the controller on the couch, paused the game and went to the restroom, came back to find my brother’s friends taking turns on MY solo campaign. Motherfuckers.

But, the game was incredible. Just like being in a movie. Unfortunately, there is an inverse relationship with how great of a movie-like feel a game has and replay value; the more it is like a film, the less likely it is to be different the second time around.

Fucking great game regardless.

Anyone else here subscribe to EGM? I just got a new issue all about the Watchmen game, and I figured a lot of people around here would appreciate the article.

After news about the new, improved ending to Watchmen, I’m not putting a dime towards anything related til I see the movie and have the opportunity to hate.

Yep, I actually received a free subscription this year. I haven’t gotten to the Watchmen article yet, though.

For PS3 owners:

Motorstorm: Pacific Rift

I definitely enjoyed Motorstorm: Pacific Rift far more than I did the original, and the additional content and race styles do a lot for a game that already had some solid mechanics behind it. This sequel is definitely a racing game that PS3 owners need to pick up and play, and while there have been a series of really solid off-road racers in the past year or so, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift manages to stand toe-to-toe with the best of them.

Score: 9.0 / 10

And the PS3 keypad:

Replaced my Xbox 360 today. Walked into Best Buy, and the goon squad verified the 3 red lights. Customer service let me choose a new 360 Elite, and swapped the old one for the new. My only expense was due to price changes a new 2 year replacement plan cost me $11.00. And I got 2 free games with the new console, Lego Indiana Jones (should be good) and KungFu Panda (meh, it was free).

Dead Space is pretty freaking creepy. With the surround sound system it sounds like someone is right behind me whispering, and clanging pipes sound they are coming from my room.

*Crosses Dead Space OFF the list of “video games I really want that don’t scare the shit out of me”.

Yeah, that’s all I need is to have a heart attack from playing a game.

Too bad I don’t have a need for a GPS, otherwise, I might be temped to get this:

The Knight Rider GPS.

This, on the other hand, I’m going to have a hard time not buying:

That was the worst part about Dead Space for sure… it gets in your head. Again, hearing whispering or a clank from a metal pipe RIGHT next to you makes it probably the best Surround-Sound game ever made.

Don’t worry Bujo, it gets crazy…

The original Diablo was pretty scary as well. I remember being on level 7 or 8, not being able to see much ahead of my character, and hearing the faint laughter of children.

Why are kids always creepy? I never figured that out.

The weird baby/mechanical fly (or whatever) hybrids in doom3 were probably the only thing that scared me in that game…

Curiously enough, Alma (Fear) just made me laugh

Yeah, Diablo 1 was pretty creepy (back then, at least). The expansion (what was the name again?) was also not too bad in that aspect (the hive part).

Dude that bitch from F.E.A.R. creeped me the fuck out. Her an Paxton Fettel.

That game was so scary I couldn’t play it anymore. Got to the office building with those “invisible ninjas” and I was done.

Lol, ok you got a point when it comes to those guys.
But they had that certain sound (was it radio traffic or some such? I don’t remember) which pretty much told you that they were there.

Still, what’s so scary about Alma? I don’t get it… She doesn’t even do anything much…

And the end (end of heli scene) had me shake my had in the “I so totally knew this was going to come” -sense…

Enjoyed the standard fights against all kinds of soldiers and security mostly. Wish they’d make a co-op shooter out of it. That game would have ruled on the 360 in co-op.

I’m not sure if it was Alma herself that was actually scary, but the combination of nerves, anxiety, fear, and stress that were all induced via sounds and environment would eventually culminate RIGHT as Alma happened to appear crawling towards you on the wall… haha.

I still think Dead Space trumps FEAR in scariness, though.

I think I didn’t look in the right direction or was distracted a couple of times when you were supposed to see alma
Gotta get Dead Space sometime I guess… But damn, there are SO MANY great games out now or nearly out…

A preview of The Last Remnant:

I’m iffy about this union based combat thing. What does everyone else think?

The random noises in doom3 were pretty creepy too, crying babies = chills. But ya cherubs were fucked up.
