Gentelmen, Doom 4 is announced:

Turns out those blood-thirsty demons just won’t stay dead. Id Software has announced that Doom 4 has begun production as of today (May 7th, 2008). According to the press release, the studio is now hiring for the project. Said CEO Todd Hollenshead, “Doom is part of the id Software DNA and demands the greatest talent and brightest minds in the industry to bring the next installment of our flagship franchise to Earth.”

Oh, and some sweet physics processing in Crysis:

I’m actually more interested in Quake5… I liked the landing at the beginning of quake4 and that you actually had some other people around here and there.
Though doom is still cool.

Haven’t seen that one yet… I’ll check on youtube.

They’d better not screw this one up. Doom 3 was kind of steaming pile. The graphics and mechanics were decent, but it was basically corridor after corridor, and then BOOM! An imp jumping out of a corner you just walked past. Wow, scary. Although I will say that Hell in Doom 3 was pretty intense, once you got there.

That reminds me: The weapons in doom3 (except for the bfg) were all CRAP.
No feeling at all, crap sounds (the pistol sounded like a nerf air-gun or something…), weird (slowish) animations at times and if you hit some creature, they didn’t even get pushed back or anything (who cares about realism in doom, but when I fire a big gun at something nasty, I want that gun to feel like a big gun too, not just look like it).

And the enemy corpses disappearing almost immediately was a little annoying, too… You never get a real good look at those things.

Still enjoyed playing it somewhat, the baby-things were fun.

Oh, and when you fired the chaingun you soon couldn’t see shit from all the smoke lol.

At least the costum/mod stuff took care of most of this.

FYI, Gears2 is just as, if not more wicked than the first one. The first 45min is a little slow, but once the game gets pumping it grabs you by the collar and slaps you around for a while. I am playing it on Hardcore which is good for anyone who knows there way around a action game. I haven’t beat the game yet but I got a look at what looks like the head honcho and he looks wicked.

Haven’t gone online yet I am getting my feet wet in the mission before I take on human opponants. So far it gets a 9/10 from me.

Got my DS and holy crap DS-10 is beyond god damn awesome. I feel like I have a Moog in my pocket.

My post count is going to suffer.

See, I saw the Crysis demo and was blown away, but the thought of having a PC that draws 1000 Watts is ridiculous. And I am sick of having to hunt for patches and update and all that bullshit. Although, again, I will absolutely buy Starcraft 2 and Diablo III…

I just think I’m ready to switch to console gaming. Come to me, Jasper, come to daddy.

Been there, man. Switching back to consoles has saved me $1000s. No longer hunting down memory upgrades. No more wedging power supplies and motherborads into computers just to find out the damn cable is too short to reach the top hard drive. No more spot fans to reduce heat. One simple box, plug and play, sorta.

Seriously dude. I got tired of plopping down $200+ every time some new game came out to be able to play it DECENTLY, not even on maxed settings. Sometimes I think game developers and hardware manufacturers keep perpetuating this money cycle but at the same time it’s the nature of computers.

Has anyone been playing Fallout 3? I’m almost 20 hours and I can’t stop playing it. Which sucks too because I also have Gears of War 2 and Dead Space on the shelf but this game is too damn addicting.

I also find it very interesting, and ironic, how Bethesda could make exploring a WASTELAND with essentially nothing in it so enthralling.

Call of Duty: World at War and Mirror’s Edge are also due this week. Mirror’s Edge seemed to be pretty fun and it’s in my gamefly queue. I played Call of Duty 5 and I was…not impressed. I didn’t think it was bad just not much different than the previous go 'round to justify a full $60. I’ll probably just stick with CoD4 and GoW2 for my multiplayer fix.

The hubby says it’s like crack…and he doesn’t want to move onto a new game because he knows it will just be a new drug.

I just beat it and took it back to blockbuster today.(5 days late) Great, great game! My only gripes were…

  1. The character models were really bad
  2. only 20 lvls? I liked Morrowind and Oblivians lvling system much better
  3. Once you beat the main story thats it, there is no going back and exploring.

But every thing else in the game was GREAT! The enviornments, weapons(never did find a Big Boy =_(, the voice acting was solid with some big names like Master Cheif him self Ron Perlman and Jedi Master Liam Neeson.

An old room mate of mine HATED Oblivian b/c me and 3 other room mates played it at the same time, so it was on 24/7 for months straight. But said Fallout 3 was like watching a movie.

Hope they come out with an exspantion for it!

And I now know every word to every song that is in that damn game!!

(edit) The V.A.T.S is fucking Awesome!!

Any one notice the Blizzard type plays on names and stuff like that? Like…

Galaxy New Radio aka GNR - Guns 'n Roses

The area named Chevy Chase

The goul named Mister Crowley - Ozzy song

Those were the only ones I noticed but im sure there were a lot more

So does anyone know if the 360 now does 1080p on all games? Is it still doing 720p with upscaling for a select few titles to 1080p?

I could swear it only does 720p and that this never changed. And, that this is only capable over composite or HDMI.

Someone correct me.

that’s good too hear since last weds I’ve been playing Gears 1(i know I’m late but haven’t had time since I bought my x box). Since tomorrow guitar hero world tour is coming out I guess I’ll wait till the following weds and then purchase gears 2. But, I still have god of war 2 too play(arghhhh too many games, not enough times) and I wanna see what the buzz is with dead space.

To my understanding it does support 1080p, but most games are currently 720p or 1080i. With the HD-DVD drive I would’ve thought you’d be getting 1080p, but I’m pretty sure my tv tells me I have a 1080p connection on some of my games.

I’m not criticizing anyone’s interests or view of games by any means, but…

How can anyone actually enjoy Gears of War 2? It’s literally the exact same game as the first one with different levels. I guess I have a problem with games that fail to introduce any sort of difference between their games (The Halo series, for one.)

It reminds me of the old EA Sports paradigm: They just keep putting out the same shit and people keep spending money on it.

I don’t know. I’m not a Gears hater. But in the two hours I played it, (including the driving level!) I couldn’t tell whether I was playing the first or second game.

Guess it’s just me.

I agree with your point…I haven’t played GOW much at all (maybe 30min a year ago), and have only seen screenshots of the 2nd one.

But there are games that I won’t bother with simply because the graphics are slightly better and it’s like an expansion pack, so to speak.

That’s why FPS’s are generally boring for me once I’ve gotten over the new graphics, it’s the same old point and shoot. There are some exceptions, though.

I hear you on the upgrades. My most expensive lesson was learning nVidia > Radeon. I spent $500 on a Radeon graphics card and its performance was crap compared to nVidia. Man was I pissed that day, and the week after, and still am.

I’m skipping Call of Duty: World at War, in fact I pass on all the historical war games. I like my shooters at least modern era, or better Sci-fi.

I’ve been keeping my eye on Mirror’s Edge since just before E3. Was a little skeptical about the first person view, but the video demos have swayed me. Definately looking forward to this one.

Anyone seen anything about another upcoming RPG, Borderlands? I’ve keeping an ear to the ground for it, but they’re staying pretty hush hush about it.

Borderland is supposed to be incredible. I’m all for RPGs.
