Apparently the Pain and Gain movie put some muscles into his acting career also.[/quote]

To this day the first thing I think when I see Mackie is “that dude who got embarrassed by Eminem at the end of 8mile.”

Did anyone actually get a chance to play this, at all? It was only online for a day or two before getting yanked for uncertain reasons (current story is that they’re doing a re-build, despite claiming that 93% of their customers gave positive feedback).

One cool thing (to me) is that you can’t instantly re-spawn after dying, you have to wait a few hours. To me, this makes you guard your own life a little bit better than you normally do in MMORPG’s…

Also…did they license that name from Max Brooks?

Can anyone recommend a good fantasy role-playing game? I’m really not into the action based ones, but I liked Diablo 1 and 2. I loved the old-school turn-based simulation games. Games like Ultma and Bard’s Tale.

Do any real good RPGs exist anymore? Or is it all this action type stuff?

thanks

Aehm.
Diablo is played in real-time. With granny-reflexes you’d die a thousand deaths.
The “role” in playing is basically just managing your current outlook on fashion.

If you want a modern Bard’s Tale, the best modern equivalent will be the new -localized- Wizardry something on the PS3.
After all these years, it’s still Wizardry! THere’s a lot of similar japanese stuff, which is often well-made but so-so (angsty teenager A with little girl B saves the world).

A modern Ultima would translate into Dragon Age 1 (2 is not so good). Lots of micromanagemt and fiddly stuff, though.
The warrior has gained a level, gotta go and tweak his abilities and scripts a bit. But the dwarf’s new ability doesn’t really work with your new strategy…back to square one…you want to fuck your witch, so go and buy her some gothic shit. Oh, she hates you now, fine, then make her jaleaous by letting the elf fuck you in the ass…Oh he wants to talk a few hours first…great
etc
Still a great rpg, even if you can’t fuck your golem.
Fine soundtrack.

Baldur’s Gate has received a HD conversion. If you haven’t played it, you can geek-out now.
Autem Caveat Geek Emptor! The Ipad version supposedly sucks.

Definitely check out Legend of Grimrock, it’s an hommage to Dungeon Master (one of the best games of all times) and it is pretty tight and oldschoolish.
Very affordable and fun.

The best RPG in terms of story was/is still Planescape:Torment, though.

since someone mentioned mount & blade, nothing concrete yet but, hopefully it will be as addictive as warband.

If you don’t mind last gen games then Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 are pretty decent. They are turn based.

Fallout 3 and Fallout:New Vegas are pretty damn good. They are “sort of” action based, but the action is kind of sketchy and the VATS mechanic appeals to the whole “turn based” type gameplay. Plenty of gear, decisions, characters, and exploration in either. In both cases you want the Game of the Year Editions, because the DLC adds to it. They are great console games, but the PC version has such an extensive modding community that if you can go PC, you should.

This is why I went with Leliana, former nun/thief. If I wanted to deal with scary hot plus mommy issues I would stay in the real world.

Shale, you wanted to get on Shale? Damn, I would have gone for the whole Golden Girls/healer deal before the Golem.

Never played, is this something I should consider?

It was a classic. No telling if you’ll enjoy such an old game anymore, but that game is definitely up there on my list of good ones.

Just watched the live action Rurouni Kenshin. I will say in advance that I haven’t seen more than 4 episodes of the anime, but it is probably the best anime-to-film adaptation I’ve seen. It isn’t an Oscar winning movie but if you have seen some of the movies where they come from an anime, usually it’s low budget sad(thinking here of the live action movie of Basilisk). But this one was fun and violent. Subs on the copy I watched were not bad, srt but looked more like ssa which is nice. Anyway, lots of sword swinging, better than I expected. Now I am going to watch the 10th Hellsing Ultimate flick.

Will see.

Just finished Dishonored. Good game but the ending was stoopid.

Far Cry 3 so far is good. Fucking alligators, never even saw him just under the surface.

I enjoyed Dishonored and yea kind of anti climatic at the end. I hope they do a second one.

Far Cry 3 has been fucking awesome, I have cleared most of the outposts and hunting quests. Just have a small section to the bottom right corner of the map. I actually enjoyed this more than Assassins Creed 3.

I had the choice of either AC3 or FC3 to play next and chose FC3. I hope this game doesn’t frown on players slaughtering everything they encounter. I don’t like surprises, ie: letting a guy live, forgetting about him and then getting a knife in the back from said bad guy.

I hope FC3 has crossbows too, loooooove those things. Every kill game should have one.

No crossbows, but you do have a regular bow, with mod arrows. No you can kill everything you come across in this game and I do mean everything, rats, chickens, snakes etc. It does not let you shoot or kill friendly’s so that is actually good IMO, cause I hate stray bullets.

I have put some serious hours in this game and it is very satisfying putting a machete through someone chest.

Pay attention to the upgrades on experience points very important, also you will have to hunt animals, that is how you upgrade your holsters, back pack, wallet etc.

Thanks for the tips!

This sounds a little like Red Dead Redemtion. I can’t tell you how many times I got killed while skinning a bear lol. I’d get so into killing and skinning them one would sneak up on me and tear me apart.

Oh yes that will happen, and good luck trying to fucking kill a shark with a bow and arrow (that is required on some of the hunting missions)

http://georgerrmartin.com/if-sample.html

GRRM released a new Arriane sample chapter from winds of winter, so at least he has made some progress on it.

sniff sniff
Is that really soiaf crack I’m sniffin’?

thanks for posting, Hell-Billy!

btw, when ‘Dance’ came out, I realized the samples were edited a bit differently than the final published chapters.

Well thanks to you and the cheeky German I bought it. I am officially nerdy enough to like it.

Good production values.

Not safe for work.
