Good God that movie was hard going. Emo, deadbeat Dad, date rapeist Superman who spoke roughly 5 times in the whole thing.

Bryan Singer said he was gonna go ‘Wrath Of Khan’ on the sequel. Thank fuck Warner Bros. went Wrath Of Khan on him instead.

LOL

Great!

I think Cavill will do a splendid job, did a pretty good job bulking up and just seems to have the right presence for the role.

FWIW Although I hated Returns I thought Routh did as good a job as possible when basically asked to play Christopher Reeve playing Clark Kent and Superman. That shitfest for me was 95% Singer

Exactly I’m surprised Singer did such a bad job on Superman since X2 up until Avengers was the best comic film of all time. Also Routh has gotten much better I liked Dylan Dogg and his roll in Scott Pilgrim.

Bryan Singer is a good director. Most movies turn out badly because they are badly executed. Superman Returns was well executed, but had a weak premise. Before I saw it, a friend of mine described it as a mega budget episode of Lois and Clark.

For me, Man of Steel is hitting all the right notes for a fresh and current interpretation of Superman: adopted daddy tells him to hide away; biological daddy lectures him on leading mankind into a new era.

I think WB gave Singer that footage of Brando from Supermab 2 and said “do something with this”

Superman Returns sucked because they completely ignored 30+ years of comic and animated adaptation and character growth and tried to make a 1970’s remake in the 00’s.

Superman now has a well known psychology. He’s a boy scout with a dark side he is afraid of…so he hides away when he can wishing he was just human.

The Superman in that movie considered himself a God already

That’s not Superman. Superman doesn’t see himself as a god. He would get rid of those powers instantly if there was someone else to take the burden.

True , he doesn’t see himself as a god. But I believe the hook of this movie will be how we would react to a superpowered alien with higher ideals. Some would revere him as a god and create cults, some would oppose him as a false prophet and the government would seek to apprehend him as a potential threat (every alien movie sends the army. That’s why he’s in cuffs with a military escort).

Zod would be the third voice telling him to just crush the insects.

Zack Snyder has done the same thing with Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen.

Not sure if that is the Plot but it would be an interesting twist.
Someone did put out a comic book about what if a Superman like character was Insane. What if having these powers made him hear his foster parents fears as a child. What if he could sense fear in everyone growing up. And what if he hurt people as a child as he was learning to control his powers. What kind of Adult would he turn into?

It’s just my calculated guess on how Chris Nolan could ground Superman. The only real option is to make the world he lives in and the people who inhabit it as believable as possible. My biggest gripe with Superman so far is that he was too readily accepted as a hero by the people he’s trying to save. It’s all been far too twee. Even Stark nearly got shot to shit by violating airspace in IM.

Like I said, Snyder has alrady done a dry run with Dr. Manhattan.

Superman is an E.T. and the most powerful being on the planet. He’s potentially a weapon of mass destruction.

Of course, DC has decided to ignore 30+ years of it’s own history with the new 52. Superman and Lois not together, Green Arrow young, Harley Quinn goes through the same chemical process as the Joker and dresses like a video game whore, Amanda Waller is skinny, etc.

I have to say they have taken a weird turn but just changing whatever they feel like but still having some of the history but not all. I completely agree with you on who Superman is but with the new comics, at least Justice League, seem to portray him with more arrogance than the Superman most everyone knows.

Ruh roh. For those who aren’t total comic nerds like myself who may have not Avengers vs X-Men let me explain why this image is really important. Namor having been given a part of the Phoenix power floods W’akanda in order to capture the Avengers who had been deemed criminals by the X-Men.

Jackie Chan!!!
