Hahahahahahahahaha!!
Picked up Far Cry 3. Only was able to play a few hours last night, was fun, something about killing someone with a machete is very satisfying. ![]()

Demon Souls was a really great game, and I’m just now starting to play Dark Souls because I have a little time now and I can’t put it down. After a couple of play through’s with the bosses I usually like to make a PvP build, just really extends the replay-ability IMO that the game has to offer and makes it a different type of challenge.
Next up I love to play is Battlefield 3, especially with all the add-on’s they got coming out now. A little frustrating when you have to deal with bitch ass mod’s that kick you when you are doing too good or they need space for their clan mates (which I sort of understand but shit it’s annoying)
I keep hearing how great Far Cry 3 is though, I think one of the ads described it as Skyrim with guns lol.[/quote]
Get Battlefield 3, you will not regret it. And if you’ve got one SUPER DUPER GAMING PC, Surround sound system on blast, daaamn, the experience is even more mind blowing. I love Call of Duty too, but Battlefield always wins for me.
I’ve finally managed to get Far Cry3. Haven’t started on it yet. Maybe next week, schedule allowing. Many have said is one of the best games of the year. Can’t wait to check it out.

Been playing for a few days, big map and love shanking people with a machete

Saw the “The Man With The Iron Fists”.
Very much disappointed.
Similarly to Conan, the film pretty much had on paper all the ingredients:
Competent, if not well-cast characters, good production values, the right setting, a crew that supposedly consists of mad genre fans.
And just like with the cimmerian reboot, a shitty script and undecided dramaturgic pacing ruins everything.
spoilers follow
For no particular reason, the film starts out weak with long narration.
What for, this is no “Lord of the Rings”.
Hundreds of genre flics did this better with minimal effort.
Why reinvent something, when it’s supposed to be an hommage?
the really bad stuff:
I had mostly no clue who Rzr was, or why I should care.
His background was uninspired, the flashbacks had absolutely no impact. By cutting them out, the film could only get better.
How hard is it to look at the blueprints of a legion of one-armed/no-armed hero sagas?
Same with his Rzr’s girl.
Let’s not pretend such a character has any potential to be more then a revenge-plot device. But the film won’t even do that right.
Why should’t Batista shag and later, kill her, he certainly has my smypathies:
She IS a harlot and she DOES try to assassinate him after service, the bitch.
Not much tragedy material here…
Curiously enough, we get to spend more time with the villains, not that it helps to paint them in an interesting way-
Characters that could have been badass just turn out to be somewhat evilish, but mostly boring.
Bronze Lion seems to be the best fighter out of the rotten bunch. So why don’t we get anyhing out of him in terms of story or character?
Why is the “big reveal” of Poison Dagger so pointless?
Why must Silver Lion be so stupid?
Interesting: The unathletic non-martial artist consistently gets the most poon, most swagger, and most scenes that develop character and mystique.
That means, the real main hero is the fat australian dude?
Great, why bother with XBlade and Rzr? And let’s not forget the ambigous Lucy Liu. Who is she again?
All that painfully points at the film’s biggest flaw:
The film underachieves because it drowns in half-developed characters.
+/- side:
the fights are decent, but not particularly oldschool, even though the film tries hard to suggest just that.
Some cool moves here and there
The downside:
Practically NO long to medium-long shots, where duelling fists can show off their particular styles.
There’s not one technique or fight that we see building up slowly.
Homeopathic dosages of training /skill demonstration. This worked for at least 80% of all genre flics to establish tone.
Instead, why get surprise attacks (mostly via gadgets) and some gore. Both of which works, but fails to replace more conventional pacing.
XBlade delivers, though.
Curiously enough, the showdown features two brawlers, dishing it out in a very untechnical way.
Just when you want to scream: “Heresy!”, the director seemed to notice, too and so they switch to a more classic styles-clash for one minute.
Hmm.
+:
Batista was fun, the scene where he’s carrying the children was gold -errr- polished brass!
One of the few times that properly invokes the spirit of classic kung fu cinema.
2**/5; don’t bother
Agreed about Iron Fist. Was very disappointed.
I thought I heard something about iron fist originally being over seven hours long, maybe some dumbass cut all the good shit out.
Schwarzfahrer,
Thank you for the review. That was on my list of films to see. You may have saved me some cinematic pain.

As it should be. Chubby Anglos should totally dominate martial arts movies.
Australia was a Brit colony after all.
I may get flagged for this being more “movie” than Geek.
