Geek S**T NUMBER 5

I’m glad I’ve only used pre-paid PSN cards to make purchases on my PS3. I think the worst they can do is drain the $ I have remaining in my account (assuming of course I don’t get locked out of my account because they go and chnage the password).

I highly doubt this will happen, but if true, Motorola could start to dominate and beat out HTC:

Oh, and Amazon’s Free Android App of the day is awesome: Business Calendar

First episode of the new X-Men anime. The animation is awesome but I just can’t get over Storm, Wolverine, and Prof X (The real one) speaking Japanese. If they got the voice actors from the 90’s cartoon to do the dub this would be my new crack.

PSN Update:

Sony just confirmed that the ongoing PSN outage was caused by “malicious actions,” which we already knew, but continues by indicating that there has also been “a compromise of personal information.”

Exactly what that means Sony isn’t saying, and it stops short of saying that credit card data for PSN and Qrocity users has been exposed, but the company does say “your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.” Yes, it may have been obtained – even Sony isn’t sure. There’s no further ETA for when PSN may be back up online.

Time to check your credit cards, fellas.
Yeah I’ve been checking. You phone the credit card number and they aleady know why you are asking. It’s crazy. They hit Amazon simultaneously as well. That’s alot of money if they somehow initiate a simulatenous drain on all the cards/accounts they’ve managed to steal.

The fact that they have full name, street adress, city, province/state, country, and billing information is ridiculous. If people weren’t concerned about identity theft before they should be now. What’s probably most upsetting about this entire fiasco is that it took Sony a week to tell the public and their customers that their personal information and banking information may be in the hands of somebody who’s up to no good. Ridiculous after I was just commenting about people being more upset to see their bank accounts drained. Probably jinxed it. Sorry. My bad.

The problem with Anon absolving itself of responsibility, is that even if the group of people that considers themselves the brain behind anon actually did nothing; they put out an open war operation against Sony. There are a TON of people that follow that shit, so even if the ‘smart’ ones knew they weren’t going to do anything major, like a denial of service attack on tens of millions of innocent people; there are plenty of people who didn’t get that memo but still had kept up with all of GeoHots info/story to know what they could do.

That said, the cynic in me wants to say it probably is just Anon anyways. Of course they won’t admit to it, this isn’t as small time as a lot of their raids have been, and assigning morality and responsibility to them in general is not something I’d be quick to do.

The road to hell etc etc, it’s easy to blame it all on Sony for not showing the best business practices, but there are other ways to hurt a company like that.

Edit: It is also entirely believable from Sony that they are now indeed down for maintenance(aka, update/patching/fixing shit), they just got fucked in the ass, even if they are not longer being DoS’d I’d want to make sure I can’t have it happen to me again either.
I’d never assign morality or responsiblity to a group who practices what I consider cyber terrorism but it just doesn’t seem their style to steal personal information and credit card information unless they’re totally moving in a new direction.

I’m not blaming Sony but I do think they should have had faster response times concerning updating the people who may have been affected by what happened.

I don’t believe they are being hacked anymore and it has been speculated that they are transferring the Japan, NA, and EU servers and you’re probably right they are beefing up security after that suprise buttsex they were subjected to.

I’m most interested to see what Microsoft will do. On game boards all the Microsoft fanboys are quick to praise 360 and their security because it is paid but I’m willing to bet Microsoft is shitting their pants wondering if they’ll be hit next. I seriously doubt just because you pay for Xbox live Microsoft’s security is that far ahead of Sony’s. Time will tell.

Ultimately, anyone can get hacked - hell, even the US government has been a target.

I think MS’s security should be at least a bit better than that of Sony - after all, they are Microsoft and have been to hell and back with issues in the past. Let’s not forget they are a software company, too.

I wonder if we’ll find out who’s behind all this… could also explain why we had our company Amazon account frozen until proof of identity via fax.

Amazon FPS? They are notorious for that shit…but I guess I’d rather they be extra cautious than not.

I still have not recieved direct contact from Sony (neither have my friends with PSN accts) stating what has happened with PSN. That’s really messed up, since I bet a lot of people have their PSN log-in e-mail/PW used elsewhere (like Amazon or for that e-mail acct).

Really fucked up on Sony’s part not to notify the PSN users directly via e-mail at a minimum.

I still haven’t been able to play god damn Portal 2 co-op because of these shenanigans.

On the plus side, the new zombie map for Black Ops looks bad ass, I wasn’t going to get the new DLC but this has me re-thinking that:

Hopefully PSN is back up and running when this is released for PS3 in 2 months.

I still have good expectations for this one.

Is Thor out in the US? Anyone seen it?

It opens tomorrow at here, definitely going to the premiere.

Lord help you if you mess this up for me again Bay!!! Notice Shockwave is clearly shown in this trailer, the robot from the teaser is Sentinal Prime not Alpha Trion which is a shame. Some of the rumors floating around are the spaceship that is shown is Omega Supreme and Bay will introduce the dinobots(if he fucks Grimlock up I will hunt him down like an animal).

Sounds like an awful lot of new shit for 1 movie, hope it doesn’t get overly bloated like the 2nd one(felt like every scene introduced a new bot then discarded it a scene later).

I just got Portal 2 today. It’s amazing. Close to surpassing Shadow of the Colossus as my favourite game to play

Portal 2 is $35 on Amazon today. I pre-ordered on Amazon and basically got the same deal at least (well is was $55 with a $20 credit, so the sale today is better IMO).

With some of the crazy 1-2 week after release sales I don’t think I will pre-order games anymore, since I can wait a couple weeks and possibly get a better deal.

Mortal Kombat is $40 somewhere this week too.

Totally agree. It’s insane. Not to mention some games have come out this year that I expected to be A LOT better than they were (DA2), had I not pre-ordered I probably would have never bought it.

My days of being taken in by a few extra trinkets in-game are over.
