Geek S**T NUMBER 5

Finally got my hands on Crysis 2. Honestly, did not like it that much. Beat the game in 2 days or night playing. Not a whole lot if any wow moments in that game. Enemies would run into cars and the car would move and kill them. AI (like that has been mentioned) is fucking horrible. I played it on the 3rd hardest dufficulty and it wasnt that hard at all. I kinda flet I was fighting machines from the game Enslaved.

The game that I recommend anyone to play for a GREAT single player campaign is Killzone 3. A ton of holy fuck moments and just awesome the amount of stuff that happens in the background.

I’ll check out Killzone 3, thanks!

This is getting to be really cool looking game.

Anybody know how long the PSNetwork is going to be down for maintenance?[/quote]

Maintenance? LOL!

Somebody had been trying to hack it… 3 days and counting. Told you to get an Xbox.

Just finished KH: Birth by Sleep again, it’s so simple yet so addicting.

Only planned maintenance as far as I’m aware.

Yea the thing being that when its free nobody can really bitch. If I was on XBox and the same thing happened then I would burning somebody’s house to the ground.

Anybody on an EASHL team in NHL 11? Great feature to a pretty good game

Absolutely. I guess the PSN+ customers must be pretty pissed, although Sony had it coming if the rumours are true.

Their whole case against Geohot (George Hotz) was very poorly handled, and he was going to (supposedly) reveal a lot of security flaws to them before they took action.

Now people are supposedly hitting back.

I guess some people have to much time on there hands, I dont understand the mindset of hacking. Or creating computer virus etc. I can still watch blue ray and play campaigns so really doesnt upset me that much. My online is very, very limited to be honest.

Generally, people hack for either fun, or they actually make money from it (especially viruses).

Sony taking away certain features of the PS3, such as being able to install Linux, AFTER they specifically advertised the PS3 for having that feature, pissed off a lot of people.

The “Other OS” function added a lot more functionality to the console; it would be like selling Windows with a specific feature and then disabling that feature with a mandatory update.

^ Dont understand how you make money from viruses.

Question do you see in the future ethical mandates and Govt regulation on the net? Kind of like Medicine had to be regulated due to potential loss of life and money etc?

Well, from a spyware point of view - it’s all pretty much advertising in that crap so somebody’s paying for it.

As for your second question, I’m not sure. One one hand the US government can’t control what we see on the internet internationally, but then who knows with the EU and what not.

I think regulation will creep up on us in one way or another, whether people agree to it or not. As software and technology progresses, our methods of accessing the internet will change too. Companies like Apple are changing that right now - with iPads and what not, eventually the only people using websites will be businesses (if that), as people will “have an app” for whatever they need. Browsing the internet will become redundant for the average person.

Piracy will become more difficult too; I think Windows 8 will be a large step in that direction. They are taking a lot of features to the cloud, adding an App Store to Windows and adding a lot of new security features, which may become a problem for certain people - if not now, then down the line.

People don’t want to be controlled with their online viewing, they want the freedom, so I think the way they (the gov) can get around that is to bring in new technologies to sidestep the issue while still achieving what they (the government) want without most people noticing. That may be a tad conspiracy-like, but that’s my take on it.

Hopefully the government does not have to step in to regulate online usage. In Canada there was a bill that was going to charge customers based on consumed bandwith ie. $10/gig. It was squashed because people were irate at the very idea. This is not the same as ethical mandates but I can see how it could spirall out of control very quickly if the government was allowed to police the internet. Just my 2 cents.

They could make money by hacking into certain servers with sensitive personal information such as credit card numbers or bank accounts. I believe failoverflow has hacked multiple government websites as well as BMO and a few other banks. If they wanted to they could have stolen millions of dollars worth of peoples personal information. That may have been what he was saying. Having said that, all information points to failoverflow or anon not being responsible for this attack on Sony. Neither group has taken responsiblity and is just not their MO in general. Could be certain individuals in either group but more likely just some idiot or group of idiots not associated with them flexing their hacking muscles. But this is just me speculating.

All in all I think Sony should be the one to fix the problem seeing as how they had security issues to begin with. First the security issues with the Playstation itself and now security issues with their servers which house all personal information on the millions of customers they have including me. I think they took the right steps in shutting down servers to protect said information. No matter how pissed people are about not being able to play online, I’m sure they’d be much more upset to realize they had their bank accounts drained.

I liked how I tried to sign into the PS3 network it now says “under maintenace”. All over the internet it’s posted that they have no idea why it went down etc. “Under maintenace” to me is deliberate and scheduled. This isn’t maintenace.

I’m not mad either since it’s free.

The problem with Anon absolving itself of responsibility, is that even if the group of people that considers themselves the brain behind anon actually did nothing; they put out an open war operation against Sony. There are a TON of people that follow that shit, so even if the ‘smart’ ones knew they weren’t going to do anything major, like a denial of service attack on tens of millions of innocent people; there are plenty of people who didn’t get that memo but still had kept up with all of GeoHots info/story to know what they could do.

That said, the cynic in me wants to say it probably is just Anon anyways. Of course they won’t admit to it, this isn’t as small time as a lot of their raids have been, and assigning morality and responsibility to them in general is not something I’d be quick to do.

The road to hell etc etc, it’s easy to blame it all on Sony for not showing the best business practices, but there are other ways to hurt a company like that.

Edit: It is also entirely believable from Sony that they are now indeed down for maintenance(aka, update/patching/fixing shit), they just got fucked in the ass, even if they are not longer being DoS’d I’d want to make sure I can’t have it happen to me again either.

i got lucky my ps3 canon got burnt while playing ff13 and now i only have my psp.

PSN Update:

Sony just confirmed that the ongoing PSN outage was caused by “malicious actions,” which we already knew, but continues by indicating that there has also been “a compromise of personal information.”

Exactly what that means Sony isn’t saying, and it stops short of saying that credit card data for PSN and Qrocity users has been exposed, but the company does say “your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.” Yes, it may have been obtained – even Sony isn’t sure. There’s no further ETA for when PSN may be back up online.

Time to check your credit cards, fellas.
