Dude…my router quit working for the PS3. It works with the ethernet cable attached, and everything else works through the router, but not the PS3. What could cause that?
Is this a broken router or is someone else using my bandwidth?
Does it connect to the router and not work, or does it flat out not connect?
It reads the router. If you check the speed, it reads that it is getting through 100% but then it will drop me off the net work or not log in completely. I troubleshooted for 3 hours with them during Thanksgiving with them assuming that because it was a holiday, that there was so much traffic that it was knocking me off…but it continues.
I bought an ethernet cable last night and connected directly to the modem and it worked just fine…meaning the problem is either router or my PS3 somehow lost its wifi function.
Everything else hooked up to the router works when connected.

Any recent PS3 updates that might’ve changed this?
Not sure if you’ve tried this, but I would:
Remove the router as a saved device from your PS3 network settings.
Reset the router (there should be a hardware reset button on the back of it). This will reset the router settings to factory default.
From your PC, connect via an Ethernet cable to the router. Depending on the router make, you should open up an internet browser and connect to the router via its IP address. Simply type in “192.168.1.1” into your address bar - it should take you to the router control panel. If not, just google the router name + ip address and you should find it within the first few results.
Next:
Reset the SSID of the router (its wireless network name) to something new like “I LOVE PROTEIN” or similar.
Secure your router by enabling WPA & TKIP (my preference) and set a password.
Disconnect the cable and connect with your laptop via wireless to make sure it’s working.
If it does, try again with the PS3 and see what happens.
I imagine that if all your other devices are working, the fault should like with the PS3’s settings, but give it a shot if you haven’t tried this already.
Also, maybe try resetting the PS3 to factory settings.

Thanks. This could also be a computer problem seeing as the desk top the router is connected to is 8 years old and I ONLY use it to connect the router. It quit working well last week so the only way for me to even check the router settings would be for me to get a whole new desk top and reinstall the router software.
Not fun.
I don’t really want to spend 500-1,000 bucks for a new comp that I will only use to connect a router.
get a linksys… i’ve heard mixed reviews for netgear…
buddy uses a netgear router for his ps3 wireless and he seems to get booted every couple matches of COD… me and my roommate use a linksys and haven’t had issues yet…
Hold on, what do you mean are you using a desktop to connect the router?
If your PS3 connects via the Ethernet and you have a browser on the PS3 (as far as I remember), then that should work too (accessing he router via its IP address). If you screw anything up, you can just push the reset on the router and it will go back to factory settings.
If you do get a new router, Linksys are good yes, but I personally like D-link routers (something like the DIR-655) but you’ll need one with a broadband connection built in.
What’s the consensus on Gran Turismo 5? I haven’t bought a video game in about 2 years (working with a start-up in Silicon Valley consumes your life) but I’m thinking about picking this one up. Thoughts?
Forewarning: This guy hates EVERY game that isn’t Portal or Saints Row 2, so take his reviews with a grain of salt. Every single review has me in tears, they’re great.

Question…is there anything else like Mystery Science Theater where they make fun of old movies while you watch the movie?
Come on fellow geeks were lacking in Geekery right now. This should jump start things a bit. The trailer for the new Transformers movie: Dark of the Moon (yeah stupid title)

Ok, i’m a bit slow on my old Transformer cartoon history. Now is this the Transformer that turns into a planet or something new
I think that is just supposed to be a ship that crashed into the moon. Probably the Arc, maybe Nemesis. I doubt Unicron (Evil Transformer planet) or Primus (Good Tranformer planet) will make an appearance.
My overall geekyness has been lacking lately, and T-Nation has been a bit uncooperative.
I did stumble across a new DC animated dvd recently.
Superman/Shazam! The Return of Black Adam
Basically it’s 4 animated shorts starring some of the B-List DC characters. All of them are good and enjoyable watch, and each one makes wish for a full length feature starring that character. I think all of the shorts were released with other animated movies IF you bought the 2-disc version.
The Episodes:
Superman and Captain Marvel vs Black Adam.
The Specter being his creepy vengeful self.
Jonah Hex being his hard-ass cowboy self.
Green Arrow impersonating John McClain. Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker.
Tons of bonus shit. Like 1/2 a dozen episodes from Batman, Justice League, and Superman I think.
