Do they ever get game-based movies right? I mean, EVER?

You mean live action or animated or both?

Live Action? None, that I can think of.

Animated? Dead Space, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy.

There are animated movies of Dead Space (already?) and DMC?

Ok, you got a point on FF, they weren’t bad (though I actually thought that advent children was … Childish? Heck, that Dragon thing looked like some PowerRangers toy etc… )

I wish they’d actually mostly keep the games’(and books’) story lines and characters. Some additions etc are fine, but honestly…

The RE movies… Why are they even called RE? They took some character and organization names and the general theme of bioweaponry and zombies but that’s about everything that the movies have in “common” with the books/games.

They could have just hired the writer of the books and let her write the script for the movies.

Not that those movies were bad per se, I just don’t see why they had to pass them as RE movies… It was really just generic wanna-be-horror-action stuff.

As for Final Fantasy… That franchise would be great for some epic trilogy or so, much like LOTR…
But for some reason, all game movies must be basic action flics with lots of visuals and not much else. Whatever…

I just watched it too…I thought it was going one way then it didn’t make sense…reminds me of the Punisher.

Looks like Best Buy has Bioshock for the PS3 on sale for $29 if anyone’s looking to check that game out.

Dead Space: Downfall is an animated prequel to the game. Pretty slick, and worth watching. There is also a Dead Space comic book which is a prequel to the animated prequel to the game. Yes, they made the entire franchise backwards.

Devil May Cry has a 12 episode anime series based more on the manga than the games.

Final Fantasy: Spirits Within has nothing to do with the games, but still resides as a long time favorite Sci-Fi flick.

Final Fantasy: Advent Children, I agree, has little to offer plot wise, but sure is pretty to watch.

The live action RE movies sucked, especially compared to 28 Days Later and the Living Dead remake. Resident Evil: Degeneration is good, pretty to watch and keeps more in line with the game. My only complaint is that slow stumbling zombies are a bit of a let down after seeing fast, track star, sprinting zombies in action.

As for the games to movies thing…
Aspects that make for great game play make for shitty movie watching. Think watching Halo vs playing Halo. Games generally have very little in the way of character development, because you are essentially the character and your decisions define that character.

That doesn’t fly with movies. When Hollywood does try to develop a character they generally do so by turning him/her into a giant bleeding vagina which just pisses us fans off. Or Hollywood just goes off on some crazy tangent, which nobody understands: Resident Evil, Blood Reign, Max Payne, UWE BOLL. No reasonable explanation will ever be available.

P.S.
Did you get a chance to watch Outlaw Star? What did you tink of it?

Ya I played the Demo to and wasnt impressed. But, having played the first three I new there was to much shit and it wouldnt come across in the demo. But If you like action games you cant go wrong with Devil May Cry.

You could pick it up for like $24 used or just go and rent it b/c if you have the time to really sit down and play it you could beat it in 2 or 3 day…1 if thats all you do.
I’ll certainly pick it up if I can find one around $20. It must be similer to NG in some way, since in the NG forums, there’s always tons of Sony fanboys posting stuff like “DMC > GoW >>>> NGB” and such.

I always found the term “action game” for those games to be a funny one. Are other games “inaction games?” They should call those “2X” games… Xplore and Xterminate.
Unrelated to this, but I read that first book on Hellgate: London. Nothing advanced and you won’t be like “WOW! Great tale!”, but you know what? The book series will probably be 10 times better than the game is
Yep. Didn’t quite like the Phantom thing and would have wished for more Human vs. Human battles or some such, but yeah.

Hm. You get the creatures for that… Hunters etc imo.
Btw, anyone else think that later RE parts (Code Veronica) really kind
of overdid it with the monsters? I mean, Alexis or whatever her name was (totally can’t remember) etc… Everything got bigger and you get telepathy and what-have-you…

I thought it was all better/creepier in the first part, the books improved on that by adding in what happened between missions and more character interaction etc…
Veronica just seemed too much like your standard action thing again:
Tons of evil monsters, 2/3 heroes who go out and kick their asses and that’s it. I don’t think it had the same survival charm and such…
Hm. Kinda hard to explain what I actually mean…

But as I said… The RE books’ story would be much better suited for a decent movie-adaption imo than the generic shit they threw together for the live-action movies…
, because you are essentially the character and your decisions define that character. The hallmark of current times/society I guess.
Or Hollywood just goes off on some crazy tangent, which nobody understands: Resident Evil, Blood Reign, Max Payne, UWE BOLL. No reasonable explanation will ever be available.
Yeah… I don’t think we’ll ever understand Boll… Why the hell do game-developers give him permission for all those movies?
Max Payne had some decent (MP 2 way more than MP1… Kind of a neat noir detective story…) story/development of chars going on.
Know what?

I bet you my bank account that had they simply turned MP2 (maybe with MP1 as a prequel to clue people in on the chars) into a movie, the whole thing would have gotten way better marks in the reviews and people would enjoy it way more.
Did you get a chance to watch Outlaw Star? What did you tink of it?
I watched 23 out of 24 episodes of Outlaw Star (for some reason I didn’t watch the very last. Odd, gotta do that now).
Reminds me a lot of Cowboy Bebop, though I still prefer CB. Also had a lot of Trigun in it (in a way) ?

Were all three written by the same guy, by any chance?

After seeing your Avatar, I was kinda caught off-guard by the actual Aisha character (and the series’ mood/style in general) but I liked it all (mostly) anyway.

Hilarious that they didn’t show episode 23 on toonami (supposedly). Just because you get to see Aisha’s pixelated boobs in all their glory for a few seconds? Hm.

I wish they’d continue the Cowboy Bebop series… Though I guess it would be hard to get right/match the quality of the original.

HULK VS WOLVERINE…FUCKING ROCKS!! Oh shit, I cannot begin to tell you guys how crazy it is. It earns it’s PG-13 rating in like the first ten minutes. I am really surprised it didn’t get a R rating.

This isn’t cartoon Wolverine or Movie Wolverine where he only uses his claws on guns or robots. He is a stabbin’ and a clawing everything that moves the entire movie. With copious amounts of blood to boot.

Hulk is scary and intimidating as always but Wolverine holds his own. He is just as savage as Hulk and gets unhinged when he snaps. If you need some workout inspiration it is here in spades.

I am going to download Hulk vs Thor next and give you guys a report later on. I am definitely going to buy this when it comes out next week. Its a must buy. For any comic fan or a fan of smash em up action.

I didn’t find Hulk Vs Thor as good as Hulk Vs Wolverine (which I loved) but I’ve never really been a huge Thor fan.
I just finished watching Hulk v Thor. I would suggest people watch that one first then watch the wolverine episode after. The Thor story had more story and great fights also but not as brutal as the Wolverine story. I was still quite pleased with it although. I hope they continue with these Hulk vs stories. This can be a promising franchise.

I think there are 26 episodes.

They were all developed at the same time, though Trigun was a manga years before. I’m guessing cowboys in space was just the “in” thing in 1998 Japan. Outlaw Star is good bit less serious than the others and plays more to the ‘harem’ anime themes. Episode 23 was hilarious just for being pure, unabashed, over-the-top fan service.

Cowboy Bebop left us all wanting more. Maybe that’s one more reason why its such a favorite.

I caught 10 minutes of the Afro Samurai movie last night. That is BADASS! Makes me think of The Boondocks meets Beserk!

For you Street Fighter Lovers out there check this out:

http://www.zangiefchronicles.com/

It’s a series of low budget films following Zangief, it’s pretty good.

Heres is a a video of all the characters in Street Fighter 4. Awesome trailer. It blends footage form the game with footage from the New Anime movie coming out.

I didn’t even know they were available for bootlegging. Oh well, comes out tomorrow - I’m pretty pumped for sure.

If it’s any bit as good as the Planet Hulk comics or animated Avenger movies they’ve released so far, they’ve gotta be sweet.

I want to play teh Bison. But, judging by my performance with him in SSF2THDRM, I may not exactly sweep Evo.09 with him.

Gouken vs Gouki, though . . . hmmmmm.

Also, Fedor makes his video game debut in SFIV. He’s cast as Abel, who does MMA and wears a Sambo uniform.

That trailer got me pumped and amped to play. Sounds like Michael Clark Duncan as the voice of Sagat, that was a good choice. I’m gonna have to go practice now.

New Afro Samurai Season 2 (Resurrection) trailor. NSFW

The shit looks crazy!! I gotta have it.

Aw sick new afro samurai, does it still have the abbot(rza) working on it?

Has anyone played red alert 3 on xbox? I’m going to grab a new game after gym today and have narrowed it down to left 4 dead, red alert 3 and end war. I was a massive fan of red alert 2 on computer however I hated command and conquer generals.

So you guys think that Tabata is good HIIT?

Watch the entire thing. The ending is insane.

Left 4 Dead is awesome IF you love online Co-Op play. It’s like living the “Dawn of the Dead” remake. One of the most replayable games I own, and with each scenario lasting 1 hour +/- its a great transition game. Get a bit tired with the RPG scene in Fable or Fallout, then plug in L4D for some fast paced zombie slaughter.
