What an injustice to real videogame players everywhere. It’s just not like it use to be.

sigh

Cheaters.

Shocked? Don’t be. Unlike most video games that can be bought at retail, Wii Sports comes bundled with the Wii hardware in every territory other than Japan and Korea. In other words, if you bought a Wii, you bought Wii Sports whether you liked it or not (chances are, you liked it). With over 45 million Wiis sold worldwide to date, it’s only logical that Wii Sports would start smashing records sooner or later.

Of course, I guess they were only beating themselves, anyway. So I wonder, who’s the true #1?

Edit: Not surprised.

I swear to God, if the Wii Fit ever cracks the list, shit’s gonna get fucked up.

Bullshit list. They don’t count online sales (HL2 on Steam for example) or monthly subscription based games and they selectively bundle separate games together for a higher rating. World of Warcraft and it’s extensions probably top that list easily by now.

I can’t believe Metal Gear didn’t make it anywhere on that list. That seems like BS to me.

I think Metal Gear Solid 2 has sold the highest number of them so far… around 7 million copies.

Interesting on both counts, WoW and MGS.

I inspected further into the issue, and it seems most of the lists I could find were concurrent with the one given, except for this: Loading... , which does deviate from the previous one a bit.

Remember, these games are independently sold, and internationally as well. As far as I know, people in Japan could give a fuck less about World of Warcraft… not only that, but after buying the initial game, you do only have to keep buying those gay little card things (Yes, I said gay.)

As far as MGS, I’m thinking it’s because it’s set to a pretty limited crowd - Playstation owners exclusively, and mature ones at that. I’m a pretty big gamer, but I know that the stealth/sneak genre has a select audience, and I’m definitely not one of them.

Just a few thoughts; I guess I just don’t see any legitimate reason why the list would leave off certain games.

Shrugs

Agreed on most points but, How would you explain all the Gran Turismo games on there. That’s Playstation exclusive and is in the racing genre.

Gran Turismo games have a large following here in the states, but in Japan it is a big, big deal. The first 2 are the best selling driving game all time by a large margin. Hell I dont know anyone who had a PSOne and didnt have one of them.

I love gran turismo.

I just beat it this past summer.
best game I’ve ever played.

And I started up new game.
It rocks.

For sure. I think it just had that “OMGWOW” real factor the first few times you played it. I personally thought they were hard as hell. I’m more of an arcade racer, myself. That, and Forza totally kicks GT’s ass…

[quote]pookie wrote:

Don’t lose hope. The PS2 and Xbox 360 both saw more play time in 2008 than the Wii did. At least according to Nielsen.

A lot of Wiis are apparently sitting on a shelf, gathering dust.

My stepkids got a Wii + 8 games for Christmas from their dad. I think since they got back from his house over a week ago I’ve seen the older one play it once and the younger one play it 3 times. What a waste of money.

Forza is sick. I think it’s better than GT, personally.

DIRT beats them both on fun factor.

If you want to have fun in Forza 2, buy Lingenfelter 427 Corvette, turn off driving aids/automatic transmission and powerdrift off to the sunset (peninsula).

The new Watchmen Trailer from Japan. The narration is done in Japanese but watching the trailer you can get the gist of what they are saying.

Despite the things I’ve heard about what they have changed about the movie…I’m still looking forward to this movie.

Yeah, but Sony sold about 140 millions PS2. Even a game that appealed to only 10% of owners should have sold about 14 million copies.

The only explanation is that Nintendo has less good games overall; so they get bought up in large numbers. The PS2, having such a wide selection of good games, sees much less numbers per game; but incredible numbers overall.

I think Forza has the edge simulation-wise. If the times for the Nurburgring are any indication, GT cars either are too fast or handle better than F1s. GT does have more cars and tracks, though.

Personally, I have more fun with PGR4 and Grid. Endlessly tweaking parts and settings for each track is just too time consuming in Forza.

Agreed - I have PGR 4 and it’s definitely better than Forza IMO.

Anyone every played Street Legal on PC? You could literally build the engine from scratch and then drag on the streets - it was awesome, but filled with a ton of bugs.

What does PGR 4 stand for?

Project Gotham Racing 4.

The Wii is great fun if you have a non-gamer crowd you want to play video games with. Grandma can bowl and Uncle Joe can practice his golf swing.

It’s a bit like those dance pad games. Great fun in groups; not so much when gaming alone.

A hardcore gamer might have a Wii, but he’ll have another console for the “real” games.

I get what you are saying but the younger one has been hounding us for a Wii since almost last year. I just find it funny that htey barely even play the thing. I have almost no interest in the console at all as they didn’t get any games that appeal to me.

That and I’m playing one of my Xmas gifts still, The Last Remnant for 360.
