At that size, why not buy a projector and turn your living room into a theathre?

Agreed. A friend of mine has a PS3 and a good HD projector, and it looks as good as any TV I’ve seen.

I planned to buy a 50" hdtv but I bought an HD projector instead and I never looked back. The picture quality is amazing considering I placed it 12’ away and making a 100" screen on my wall. And at £440 (an ex-demo, original price around £700) it was a steal. A potential problem when buying projectors is the bulb, its life is ~2500-3000hours, and each bulb costs up to £100+. But who cares when you can have bigger than life-size porn???
I can’t see a projector being as good as a full HD TV. Still, if you have a 100" inch screen I’d probably take that.

You’d be surprised, then.

What about the issue of having too much light in a room?

What about the Sharp 108-inch Aquos LCD HDTV?
Just insane!

I just got my new home theatre system hooked up - damn, am I chuffed.
I settled for a Sony 7.1 amp with 5.1 Jamo speakers (500w) - the sound is very crisp, and it integrates with the TV, 360 and PC very well. It’s not a high end system, but it sure as hell does the job.
Waiting for the guy to come install Sky HD today, and then onto some cable management to tidy up the setup.
Very nice! Seeing that makes me want to upgrade. ![]()
Me too. What size is the tv? I have a 50 but for some reason, that 52 makes mine look much smaller.
Thanks guys.
The tv is actually a 40" - when I originally bought it last year I was in a house share so it was all I could fit, but now that I have my own place it does look a bit small in the room.
My next step up would be a 50", but it would have to remain full HD and I’d want the newer LED panels which are fooking expensive here since they’re new on the market(~Ã?£2500). One of my freends bought a 60" panel, but it’s not full HD so although it’s massive, that backward step in technology is not a great move IMO. Like I said, I’m really happy with the setup now. Maybe in a couple years (read: when I get the itch to burn more money).
I’m still after a PS3 considering all the new titles that have come out recently, however at the moment my 360 is gathering dust because I have no time to play it, so that may be a waste.[/quote]
Very Shiny. Always fun to hook up the new toys.

It’s really a matter of comparing the size of the screen to how close/far you can sit from the screen. There a couple websites floating around that allow you to plug in the distance at which you would normally sit from the TV and then provide size recommendations for you home. Or you can just figure it out yourself using this guide line:
-
Measure the distance from your seat to the empty spot you hope to fill with a new TV.
****If you measured in feet, multiply by 12. If you measured in inches, bravo! -
Take 55% of that number and you have THXs minimum recommended screen size in diagonal inches. Take 60% for SMPTEs minimum recommended screen size. 75% for THXs recommended ideal.
The minimum and the ideal is a pretty broad range and of course you probably won’t find a TV built to the exact calculated size.

I started a new evil bitch of a character Operation Anchorage got her to level 8 damn fast. And provided me with Power Armor and a new rifle. Gotta scrounge up my bobble heads, collect my Terrible Shotgun, and the Vengeance laser Gatling gun the its off to the Pitt.
Just wait until SHV (Super High Vision) is done, and you have 100" TV’s with 33 times the resolution of current HD. Try 7680 x 4320p

damn.
I don’t know if I can justify paying what those tv’s will cost though. Once you have to take out a mortgage to pay for a tv I think it is time to back off.

Here is a video to give you an idea of the picture quality. 33 million pixels.
Here is an article explaining more about it, it’s not planned to come out for years, but it is expected to crush HD.

Yeah, too much light in your room can ruin the quality significantly. Come on, there’s a reason why 100+" HDTVs cost £100k+ (I think I saw one in Harrods) and an HD projector costs only £600-700 ;).Here’s an example of how the quality looks like in a room with ambient light:

That’s crazy, but yeah, it will take ages for it to become the standard - or even available for that matter.
I mean, OLED TV’s aren’t even out yet, and I was actually thinking of holding out for one just over a year back.

I just sold my Nikon D300 for possibly a D700. How is this Canon?

…it truly is a next generation camera. A 21mp full frame cmos sensor that excells at high ISO values and shoots full HD video. Watch this video to get a sense of it’s capabilities: Images Of Western Australia's Kimberley on Vimeo There are areas that can be improved, and the camera really only reaches it’s full potential with expensive L lenses, but nevertheless, i’ll be having fun with this one for a long time…

Unless the general public will ever be able to afford it, it will never become mainstream. Its impressive no doubt, but I don’t see it hitting shelves for a long time yet.
