King went 20 years between writing the first line of The Gunslinger and writing the second line, as I recall. I’m sure he can sympathize with Martin.

My point was simply that it’s better to take the time that is needed, rather than force it. Just look at the 3 last books of The Dark Tower, which sucked hairy monkey balls. I’d rather have waited 5 more years and gotten something better.

Haha, yes but I think that was due to being 19 and putting out a bazillion other books in between. You are quite right though that it is better to wait if the end product is better. And the last few books of the Dark Tower did feel rushed…that accident really scared the shit out of him I guess, lol.

If I’m being honest I don’t think money is the true reason that Martin is procrastinating. I just think it’s making it easier on him. The man is overweight and he says on his own blog that he tends to be lazy. I’m not saying that all people that are overweight are lazy and that all skinny people are not, but there is something about a regimen of exercise that permeates every other aspect of our lives. I’m sure we can all agree with that.[/quote]

Yes, and we can all agree to hunt Martins fat ass DOWN if he doesn’t deliver. :stuck_out_tongue:

As a rule I never start a series that isn’t finished, but somehow I got suckered into this one. It’s a little like a fantasy soap opera at this point, but damn the man can write. I’d probably buy his shopping list.

Lol, hear hear, isn’t that the truth. I swear I used to go by his web site every week, looking at all of those damned pictures of the kids and dogs that got named after his SoFAI characters, just hoping that there would be a chapter excerpt or an update.

I think his understanding of politics is brilliant, and I think Tyrion is the best character I’ve read in 10 years.

I love how he has no sentimentality with his characters. He’ll build up a character and suddenly BOOM, he kills him off. Leaving me with a WTF? and a NOOO. lol

The storyline in the east(?) with the dragons and all is slow to evolve, but could be great if he does it right.

I seem to remember reading about plans for a TV-series also? It would probably turn out to be The Bold and the Beautiful with swords and cheap chainmail, but what the hell.

Indeed, when Eddard Stark went down right away in the first book it made me stop reading for a second as that sort of thing rarely happens in fantasy these days. That’s why I’m so pissed I don’t have more to read, because it truly is amazing stuff. The East is being slow, I’m interested to see how this is all going to turn out…judging by the little bits of history he gives I can see this coming full circle.

Yes, HBO picked up the rights and they are doing casting right now. I believe, though you’d have to check his site to be sure, that they are beginning shooting in October in Ireland? The plan is one season for each book with something like 13 episodes per season or some such. Provided it’s done correctly, it could be supplant the Tudors as my new favorite show on HBO/Showtime.

Sidebar: Anyone watch Rome? I believe it’s on HBO, but I’ve never caught an episode, though I hear good things.

Speaking of sweet graphics, Muramasa looks like a frigging watercolor come to life.

I played it- it’s awesome. Have you played any of the other Vanillaware games, like Odin Sphere or Grimgrimoire? They lean towards a tactical strategy real time battle engine, but in Muramasa, you can choose to run and gun, or worry about strategy. It’s pretty sweet.

Damn… this games looking awesome. I hesitated and passed on Mad World, but I think this is the first Wii game I’ll actually purchase (not my system.)

I love these threads. It’s instant nerdgasm. Do yourself a favor and pick up the box sets. Gripping series, great characters and plenty of T&A (tits and action) to keep you occupied.

It’s a typical Nintendo thing; oceans of third-party crap mixed with flashes of first-party genius and quirky independent games.

When it works, it works. Bought Boom Blox for my nephew recently and though it’s definitely a kid’s game, I’ve never had more fun swinging a remote around.

Haha, I know what you mean. Now if only I knew more people who lived by me that were into hardcore lifting and nerdy shit. Thanks for the tip, I think that’s gonna be my next purchase.

You know, just for my two cents, boys- I really liked Rome, I mean, who doesn’t like scantily clad hotties who do nothing but stare at each other menacingly across food-laden tables and f*ck? May I also recommend the Tudors- although as a caviat, the second season of Tudors was a snore fest, skip it if you don’t think the girl who plays Anne Boleyn is hot.

Sorry for the double post, but let me also say that Wii Ware is getting some pretty good titles, too- absolutely check out World of Goo if you haven’t. And for those fans of awesome platformers, check out DoReMi fantasy- it was only out in Japan until it came to the virtual console- if you loved Kirby, you’ll love this shit.

Dragon Age… I have barely dared to look at previews because I don’t want to get my hopes up. Last worthwhile game in that genre as far as I am concerned was Baldurs Gate 2.

However I looked at some clips on youtube just now and it looks good. Anyone else waiting for this one?

Usually the trailers give me a hard-on and then the gameplay is like a bad handjob. This one doesn’t look too bad, though. I sure hope they get a decent story and voice acting in there, as that is usually what makes or breaks a game like this IMO.

Did you ever play Planescape Torment? I know it’s old, but if you can find an emulated version of it, play that ish. Best game in that genre.

Haven’t heard anything about Dragon Age- if yo do, let me know.

I did play Planescape:Torment, but it’s graphics haven’t stood the test of time as well as BG2. I can still play BG2 no problem. Make sure to install some mods, though.

There is a lot of info around the net about Dragon Age, but I try not to read it to be honest. I’m sick of waiting for stuff, and they never deliver when they say. I do believe they had a gameplay vid up at E3, though.

Have you ever checked out the Gothic series? I really liked 1 and 2, haven’t gotten around to playing number 3 yet.

I just got my new home theatre system hooked up - damn, am I chuffed.

I settled for a Sony 7.1 amp with 5.1 Jamo speakers (500w) - the sound is very crisp, and it integrates with the TV, 360 and PC very well. It’s not a high end system, but it sure as hell does the job.

Waiting for the guy to come install Sky HD today, and then onto some cable management to tidy up the setup.

Another.

Very nice! Seeing that makes me want to upgrade.

Me too. What size is the tv? I have a 50 but for some reason, that 52 makes mine look much smaller.

Your not kidding, the more I see screens that are larger than mine, they make mine look ALOT smaller. Shit if I could go back, I would throw down for a 55".

Fallout 3 with all DLCs…Makes me WANT WW3 to happen so I can run around poping RadAway, shooting Buffout and shooting Raiders in the head with a shotgun. It’s that good. Or I’m that messed up.

Thanks guys.

The tv is actually a 40" - when I originally bought it last year I was in a house share so it was all I could fit, but now that I have my own place it does look a bit small in the room.

My next step up would be a 50", but it would have to remain full HD and I’d want the newer LED panels which are fooking expensive here since they’re new on the market(~£2500). One of my freends bought a 60" panel, but it’s not full HD so although it’s massive, that backward step in technology is not a great move IMO. Like I said, I’m really happy with the setup now. Maybe in a couple years (read: when I get the itch to burn more money).

I’m still after a PS3 considering all the new titles that have come out recently, however at the moment my 360 is gathering dust because I have no time to play it, so that may be a waste.

Speaking of big TV’s, I saw a 72" Full HD Sony Bravia for $63,000 the other day. Fucking Massive. Crazy difference between a 62" which is somewhere around $7k here I believe.
