Other Operating System.

Lots of people had/have Linux installed which expands the functionality of the console.

To be honest, this won’t affect the large majority of PS3 owners.
I wouldn’t think a lot of people have another OS on their PS3. I watched a video on youtube of a guy putting Linux on his and he said it wasn’t worth it due to how slow it is etc. If I recall correctly.
Good. I was wondering if I was missing something. I can use my ps3 almost like I can use my desk top…or at least I will as soon as I get the keyboard for it. Is there something the machine can do that I am not aware of?

I originally got my PS3 as a gift because I wanted a bluray player, Netflix, and to do some other cool video streaming shit so I was never much into games. Then I read the end of this thread and the other one about GOW3. I downloaded the demo and boy was I fuckin hooked. Dude, I ripped some fuckers head off and was carrying it around as a lamp. Awesome! I ordered GOW1 and 2 pack from Amazon today. Can’t wait to finish them and get back to playing 3.
GOW 3= Game of the Year.

Funny how Gears of War 2 got game of the year, and they refer to it as GOW also.

Anyone getting/got an iPad? Any good? I think HP’s Slate has a lot more to offer for the money, especially a fully functioning OS.

I’m interested to see how it all pans out.

Question:

In-ear earphones, what brands/models have any of you had most success with? I’ve used Shure E2C’s twice before, and they are probably the best I’ve used as far as comfort, sound and the god-damn things not falling out your ears when you turn your head. Only problem is that since they swing over the top of your ear, they don’t last more than a year before the cables frey and tear.

I have a set of Bose earphones at the moment (which I got for less than half the retail price) and they are horrible. I would never have paid full price for them anyway, but the sound is just OK, I’ve lost all the end pieces due to the poor design and they keep falling out of my ears.

Any suggestions for something around $60-$150?

PS3’s latest update has already been hacked.

Never, and no. It might have a “spiffy” design, but its functionality is severely limited compared the HP model you posted. No multitasking, only runs apps from the App Store, no Flash, no camera, not to mention reading black-on-white text is apparently harsh on your eyes because it’s NOT using e-ink like standalone e-readers like the Kindle. What they need to do is make it pocket-sized and add a camera and phone functionality…

The mouse and keyboard combo is better for RTS and FPS games(at least for aiming anyways), but everthing else is far more comfortable and intuitive with a controller(analog FTW), and if you’re playing an FPS against other people with controllers, the limitations with respect to aiming aren’t an issue.

Agreed, there is another “Pad” called the ICD that is using the Nvida Tegra 2 which has been out for a while, and destroys the iPad feature wise, hands down.

On a related note, 10am today the iPhone OS 4.0 is being previewed by Apple, I’m interested to see what they are gonna show us as they have a lot of catching up to do, IMO. They need to give me a reason not to get an HTC Desire (as I was shown by Ponce).

Anyone looking for a new smartphone, check this out.

The HTC Desire - running the latest Google Android OS, it’s probably the best smartphone out there right now, comes with a ton of features and looks to be very solid judging by the reviews out there so far.

I checked out the ipad and thought, I would still need a phone and a laptop, so why get it? Is it cool, convenient, and comfortable? Yes. Fast? Yes. I played Rockband on it and it was cool. The game loads quick and the 720p resolution is nice to look at for such a device. If you are someone who travels alot, then it would be advantageous, it is much thinner than a laptop.

Still, it would be silly to me to go for something that’s pretty much inferior to a laptop in every way simply because it’s a bit thinner. Also, proprietary batteries FTL.

Can’t wait for this one to come out. For PS3, Xbox, and PC. (I think Xbox).

Oh and I’ll probably get it for PC and mod it some more. I had some frame rate issues when running on MAX settings. Visually outstanding game.

Crysis 2 looks superb, the reality of these games is getting better and better all the time.

Has anyone heard about Apple (Fuck I hate this company) has change it T&C’s a week before Adobe is about to announce CS5? They’ve basically said that you cannot develop any apps for their mobile devices (iPhones and iPads) using anything else other than their software/language (hence their lack of Flash support in all mobile devices).

The problem is that Flash seems to run poorly and with problems on all Mac hardware/software and people are really pissed off with Flash having problems.

Honestly, has ANYONE here using a PC ever had a problem with Flash? I haven’t, and I use it both as an end-user and developer.

I think Adobe would do well do retialiate by completely stopping any support for it’s applications on Mac platforms. I would LOVE to see Apple crash and burn because of their bullying and arrogance. Sure, Adobe would suffer for a while, but at the end of the day 90% of their applicatiosn are CRUCIAL to graphic-related designers all over the world in various industries. People would just switch to PC to continue working with their sortware.

Apple release an update to their iPhone OS and act like they are pioneering multi-tasking and such and Steve Jobs’ shit doesn’t stink, yet Microsoft announced the same type of multi-tasking over a month back for their upcoming Windows 7 Phone. I’m fucking sick of their attitude to everything and come this July, I’m 99% convinced I’ll be buying an Android powered phone just to give them a big FUCK YOU.

I refuse to purchase Apple things, but I keep getting new iPods. Shit’s easier to get than fucking herpes.

I would never.

I have an iPhone and I’ve loaded music onto it once since I got it. You want to talk about shitty and in-compatible software that reduces the performance of any PC - look no further than iTunes.

I was going to say that you probably copied a post of mine, but I posted it on another site, so you’re in the clear.

HTC Desire is the Nexus One after the awkward growing pains. It corrected all the bad stuff about the Nexus One, and itself is a slick design (hardware buttons, optical trackpad).

Too bad it’s Europe only.

The best Android phone in the US is the HTC Evo 4G:

HTC EVO 4G (Supersonic) camera and camcorder demo - YouTube (check out the camera demo)

It has a 4.3" screen, front-facing camera for video conferencing, HD video recording and HDMI out. Crazy. Sprint only, though (bummer).
And look at the back. There’s a metal, flip-out stand so you can lean it back in landscape mode and watch movies.

What’s funny is:

Steve Jobs boasting that about is a $50 billion dollar portable electronics company (January 2010 Mac World) and yet Sony was doing $90 billion this past year (and that’s with a steady loss in revenue).

If you’re going to define yourself as a “benchmark,” consider what others around you have achieved. Show some humility.

I hate Apple primarily for releasing products whose specs are intentionally lacking, so that product refreshes can be released steadily as a strategic response to growing competition. I understand it as a business strategy, but come on: the iPad only has 256 MB of RAM!

The best tablet coming out real soon is the Adam by Notion Ink:

(click to watch the video)

The screen can switch between LCD and eInk ON THE FUCKING FLY (OTFF, TM). It has 1080p decoding power and HDMI out and a swivel camera. And it runs Android (open platform, unlike the iPad). It’s based on Tegra2 and has a dual core 1Ghz processor.

Absolutely. I just have the pods setup as external USB devices, never have to turn on iTunes.

Which, I think, came with a full version of “safari,” the biggest little browser ever to fuck up my system.

I’m sure I credited you somewhere about bringing it to my attention, either way, I meant too.

The Desire looks great - I plan to get one in July provided nothing else comes out by then.

The Evo 4G looks a bit bulky (although though technically it’s not) - I think it’s the shape of it.

Unfortunately most iFollowers will just believe everything that Apple says and does. They present some of the most ridiculous stats in their presentations, “10 Billion Push notifications sent”. My god, that’s like Microsoft saying “Over 1 Trillion emails sent via our mobile devices.”

It’s a very poor way to handle things, however it seems most of their users aren’t phased at all - even thankful! I wouldn’t be surprised if they try charging for the OS4.0 update, so that you can enjoy iAds in your paid for applications. Woohoo!

Just wait until Apple invents a removable battery for their phones!

Exactly! Now that is an impressive tablet. Some simple and useful features one would expect when paying for any new type of device.

So in the end what phone would be the best choice? I was thinking of getting the iPhone but my thinking may have changed.
