I got my cousin to do it for me, I’ll send him an e-mail and get all the info for you, and can pm you with it And Yes I can post up some pics ASAP not a problem, there has been a hack available since feb, I’m not much of a hacker myself. I mean I’ve jailbroken and Iphone (who hasn’t) and well just about anybody can flash a 360. My cousin is a tech for an engineering consulting company and is an avid gamer. Anyways I’l hit you up with the info as soon as I can. Cheers

Also before he hacked his, he said he used a Boot disc that worked, I hadn’t tried it myself but he said it worked well but he had to use it every time he would start up the system.
Interesting, because if there was proof it would have been posted on ps3news and other scene sites… Show me something and I’ll eat my words.

I have heard of FERROX iso Loader a few years ago, but never seen a release for it, just a bunch of youtube posts and info at ps3news.com. Are you loading these ps3 isos straight from harddrive or burning to bluray?

Newest firmware is LT ixtreme, supposed to be undetectable on live.

Oh Big Boss you silly guy. You know that would make too much sense for George Lucas. He would rather pimp the prequal for the next decade or so before putting out another Star Wars Movie.
Shit is frustrating…so much material to work with and all we get is some shitty prequels.

The firmware I’m running I have to update all the time so I’m not detected on live which can be a bitch sometimes.

Just on a side note I’ve got the 1st gen PS3 80gb, And Everything was burned onto blue-ray I know that for sure because he gave me the disks when he brought back my console. But yeah as I said I’l e-mail him today and get any info that you guy’s can use.

Very vague on what REALLY its going to look like but PEEEEAAAHHHH. The sniper reminds me of Killzone 2, idea stolen much?

PS3 Firmware 3.21 Coming April 1st, Disables OtherOS Feature

To quote: The next system software update for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) system will be released on April 1, 2010 , and will disable the “Install Other OS” feature that was available on the PS3 systems prior to the current slimmer models, launched in September 2009.

This feature enabled users to install an operating system, but due to security concerns, Sony Computer Entertainment will remove the functionality through the 3.21 system software update.

In addition, disabling the 'Other OS" feature will help ensure that PS3 owners will continue to have access to the broad range of gaming and entertainment content from SCE and its content partners on a more secure system.

Consumers and organizations that currently use the “Other OS” feature can choose not to upgrade their PS3 systems, although the following features will no longer be available;

 • Ability to sign in to PlayStation Network and use network features that require signing in to PlayStation Network, such as online features of PS3 games and chat
 • Playback of PS3 software titles or Blu-ray Disc videos that require PS3 system software version 3.21 or later
 • Playback of copyright-protected videos that are stored on a media server (when DTCP-IP is enabled under Settings)
 • Use of new features and improvements that are available on PS3 system software 3.21 or later

For those PS3 users who are currently using the “Other OS” feature but choose to install the system software update, to avoid data loss they first need to back-up any data stored within the hard drive partition used by the “Other OS,” as they will not be able to access that data following the update.

Does anyone else have linux installed on their PS3? This does suck for the ps3 homebrew and development community.

What are these “security concerns” I wonder. Are they concerned for our PS3 or for Sony themselves? After how many years the PS3 has been out all of sudden they want to get ride of the option OS feature. Seems like there is something else behind this besides security issues.

Microsoft is realizing that their computers are shit and everyone is using their PS3 as a computer with a OS. They gave Sony money to disable that so they can get more people to buy their computers. Yup that’s it.

Or, without coming up with random conspiracy theories, they just don’t want people hacking their hardware. Also it could be a preemptive April Fools joke.

Beat me to it. Everyone said it looked good. But I didn’t think it’d look that good. It’s crazy. I’ve only had time to play through the intro part.
There is so much going on in any one given scene that the PS2 would be blowing smoke by the end of a fight scene. I miss some of the action trying to hit the right buttons on some moves.
Give me insights on the gameplay, i’m going to buy next month! is it button masher?

It is not an april fools joke. After geohot successfully hacked the ps3 and gave away the exploit to the community not too long ago. Sony is taking actions to prevent piracy, by disabling “other os”.

I dont know if someone already posted this in the first two threads, so here I go:

Since I need to think alot these days I need at least a few games where I do not have to think too hard and can blow shit up.

Unfortunately, those games are all made for the playstation etc, so I got me an X-Box controller for windows.

After you have installed it and got the game to accept it and after having reprogrammed the buttons so that they actually make some sort of sense I cannot imagine playing Assassins Creed 2, my test game, without it.

It would be kind of hard to run, steer and grab something at the same time without having all those functions at your fingertips.

The controller feels pretty solid and I have no problems with the wireless conncections even though I have other bluetooth devices.

All in all an excellent device which requires some fine tuning that you have to do for yourselves.

meh, I played the first AC on my PC and had no problem with the mouse and keyboard. I think most ppl that dont normally play games on the PC are just to lazy to make the adjustment. Im still of the mind set that Mouse/keyboard > Controller even thought I have moved to playing more games on consoles recently.

and not calling you lazy Orion just that ppl as a whole are lazy.

It’s like the original except better.

Spoiler Warning
Ok, so if Kratos could kill all the other gods with his bare hands, why did he need pandora’s box to kill zeus?

If you guys waited for the ending credits, you could see Kratos moved his body off of the cliff via the blood trail, do you think he is still alive?

I originally got my PS3 as a gift because I wanted a bluray player, Netflix, and to do some other cool video streaming shit so I was never much into games. Then I read the end of this thread and the other one about GOW3. I downloaded the demo and boy was I fuckin hooked. Dude, I ripped some fuckers head off and was carrying it around as a lamp. Awesome! I ordered GOW1 and 2 pack from Amazon today. Can’t wait to finish them and get back to playing 3.

I’m in both camps - I’ve been a PC gaming die-hard for years but, after playing AC2 on the 360, ponied up for an Xbox controller for Windows. Started a new game of Arkham Asylum, just to see what kind of difference it made, and immediately found the entire game vastly easier. Combo counts went up, as did bonuses for using multiple moves, all because of the simplified controls that come with using a controller. Playing through The Last Remnant with it now and having a similar experience.

I still stand by mouse + keyboard for FPS, and RTS games, but I’m rapidly coming around to the view that joypads are definitely a viable alternative for certain types of games.

Wall of Text - PS3 firmware update

Cliff Notes
Geohot says not to update, custom firmware will be available soon which will keep “OtherOs” and still be able to play latest games and PSN functions.

From Ps3 News:

Today infamous PS3 hacker GeoHot has blogged that users should not update their PS3 entertainment systems to PS3 Firmware v3.21 when it is released this Thursday as it will disable the OtherOS functionality, and as incentive not to update he has promised the very community he isn’t sharing details on how to dump lv2 with that he will work on a solution which could include PS3 Custom Firmware.

To quote: "A note to people interested in the exploit and retaining OtherOS support, DO NOT UPDATE. When 3.21 comes out, I will look into a safe way of updating to retain OtherOS support, perhaps something like Hellcat’s Recovery Flasher. I never intended to touch CFW, but if that’s how you want to play…

Two things, some people seem to think CFW will enable some sort of piracy. It won’t. It’ll just be a custom version of 3.21 that doesn’t lose OtherOS support. Hacking isn’t about getting what you didn’t pay for, it’s about making sure you do get what you did.

And this is about more than this feature right now. It’s about whether these companies have the right to take away advertised features from a product you purchased. Imagine if an exploit were found in Safari on the iPhone, but instead of fixing it, Apple decides to pull web browsing altogether. Legally, they may be within their right to do so, but we have to show them it’s the wrong move for the future of the product and the company.

First off, I want to apologize to all the people who use Linux on their PS3. Before releasing, I weighed the pros and cons, and considered the possibility of an impact on OtherOS support.

My logic was this. OtherOS support had already been removed from the Slim (not for technical reasons; I believe it only existed in the first place to promote the Cell for IBM) The builders had apparently no intention of including it in future products. So for the purposes of openness why not release? Not like anything else has (or probably will be) done on the PS3.

Now you go and remove a feature that people expected to be included with the expensive device they purchased, citing “security concerns”. What security concerns? It’s not like the exploit can be run even close to without the users knowledge.

You have to open the thing up. How could this harm users? Your blog post doesn’t list positive reasons for upgrading like I think most users expect. Instead it lists things you will lose if you don’t upgrade. Seriously?

The PlayStation 3 is the only product I know that loses features throughout it’s life cycle. Software PS2 emulation, SACD playback, and OtherOS support are all just software switches you can flip. It’s unbelievable you would go and flip one, not just on new boxes you are shipping, but on tens of millions already in the field."

Here is to hoping GeoHot releases a PlayStation 3 solution in a timely manner, as unfortunately the entire PS3 (and Linux) scene is left waiting on him at the moment.

What does “other os” mean?
Professor X wrote:

Other Operating System.

Lots of people had/have Linux installed which expands the functionality of the console.

To be honest, this won’t affect the large majority of PS3 owners.

I wouldn’t think a lot of people have another OS on their PS3. I watched a video on youtube of a guy putting Linux on his and he said it wasn’t worth it due to how slow it is etc. If I recall correctly.

Anyone get the Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus package for 360? How is it?
