I never clicked on this thread before. pretty cool. so i read the last 5 pages or so. Quick question for X. I have a PS3 which i use for everything as he does but rarely have time for games. If you had to pick one… which game is better? Infamous or Assasins Creed 2? Don’t say get both because no chance I’d have time for that. But maybe I’d try and play one of them. Oh and if anyone else has played both let me know what you think. I just mention X because he talked about both.

Shit…well I can’t speak for X…but I’ve played both(still playing AC2). They are very similar to me…but I think AC2 is a little more “refined” and the whole storyline has more depth, imo.
If you really have time to play just one…I would go with AC2. I am enjoying the hell out of that game right now. But if you don’t feel like shelling out $60 for AC2,I’m sure you could probably find a good used copy of Infamous for not too much.

I’m playing AC2 as well…and damn am I glad X got me onto #1. AC2 is one of the best games I’ve played to date - I love it. It’s suites my taste right down to stabbing people with poison. Seriously, it’s a great game.

Agreed. This game is the shit. Eve when I beat this game I will probably play it again.
They expanded the world of this game so much now (along with the ability to swim) that it puts Tomb Raider to shame as far as scale.
The story line is also mature enough to really pull you into it.

What I love is that they expanded everything from the first. Nowhere near as repetitive as the first.

Gigabyte was always my favorite mobo maker (because they would stuff their mobos with features), then Abit, then Asus. I used to love nVidia chipset boards until I heard that, on average, Intel chipset boards have the fewest problems with Intel processors (e.g. problems = random lockups). Not sure how true it is but if the Intel chipsets were essentially the reference designs tested with their own processors, I wouldn’t be too surprised.
Likewise on the Gigabyte boards - they have yet to fail me since I’ve been hooked on them for the past 8-9 years due to their said features. I’ve also heard good things about Intel boards, but not that good; at least not to make a switch.

Is that a Zalman heatsink?
It’s a Cogage True Spirit. It was between that and a Prolima Megahalems according to the reviews and tests I’ve seen online, and I went for the cheaper and [supposedly] better option.

I really would want to try a Swift Tech water cooling system (or whatever is a good one these days). I remember my friends in high school popping in Celeron 300A procs and overclocking the shit out of them. Hell, that’s when all the cool kids used peltier coolers.
I’ve never tried water cooling, but then I’ll admit I’ve never researched them because it seems like too much fuss.
I want an nVidia GTX 285 OCX by BFG - due to it’s great performance and seriously good 10-year warranty (lifetime within the US). I don’t do gaming on the PC anymore, so I have no need for SLI, as tempted as I am.
I already opted for an 850w modular PSU, and I have my eye on this 23" TN (I know!) panel:
It’s an LED LCD Samsung panel, but it’s all I really need - and then some.

But…
I seriously hope you buy a PCI-E RAID card that has dedicated RAID controllers (I dont’ think all of them do) with an absurd amount of onboard memory, then RAID 0 (or 0+1 if you don’t have a separate hard drive for storage) two Intel G2 SSDs (160 GB each). If you want to save some money, go for the OCZ Vertex series, since both manufacturers will support TRIM, but the Intels have less performance drop in random read/write speeds after being used - the real test of an SSDs worthiness.
You would honestly never upgrade your computer again…and not eat for at least 6 months, but who cares? :)
LMAO! The price we pay for entertainment and technology, eh?
I’m planning on 2 1TB Samsung spinpoint F3’s, running in RAID 1 because I value my data more than the performance boost I will get. SSD’s are out of my budget (OK, I could - but I won’t) and so I’m happy with some standard sata drives.
What’s TRIM?
Thanks guys!

I have to agree nVidia > ATI Radeon.
I’m still pissed about the last Radeon card I bought 4 years ago. I’m used nVidia for every computer I’ve built in the last 4 years.

Just bought the 2-disc DVD set of Star Trek. I have to say the Enterprise is the coolest DVD case I have seen to date. After putting the model Enterprise together I spent 20 minutes flying it around the apartment making my own warp drive sound effects and humming some unholy union of the Star Trek and Empire Strikes Back theme songs. The DVD are stored in the saucer section of the Enterprise. The Enterprise is about 3" tall & 8" long, placed on the stand adds another 3" to the height.

A better story than the movie and they aren’t afraid to chop heads off.
This stays closer to the original concept as well even though I think Snake Eyes actually kills Storm Shadow in this.
I watched GI JOE - Resolute when it was released on the Cartoon Network’s website. Has it been released on DVD or something?

That is pretty bad ass! I didn’t realize it was going to look that cool. When I saw the add for it, I kind of dismissed it, thinking it would look cheesy. I was wrong.

It has surprised me too. It takes some assembly, but all the tabs and slots are color coded and snap together snugly. Very sturdy, tight connections. I figured it would be made with a polystyrene similar to that of model kits, but after handling/playing with it I think it is actually a vinyl plastic.
So its a little heavier, less brittle, and more robust than I expected it to be. I am very pleased by how many tooling details went into the mold. Paint apps are clean, precise and plentiful. Bonus: each nacelle and the deflector dish/body of the ship are actually separately molded pieces that are then factory assembled. If I saw this in somebody’s house I would think “Cool Enterprise toy” not DVD case.
Trailer for Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths - Features the Crime Syndicate
Thus far I’ve been pleased with these DC straight to DVD movies.
Assassin’s Creed 2 - ending
I know I am probably behind a lot of you if you played the game, but the ending of this one was pretty good. It will greatly surprise me if this isn’t made into a movie at some point.
Spoiler:
The only thing I would have changed is making it more blatant that the “demi-God” relaying the message was speaking at the player. I mean, I know she mentioned Desmond, but that whole scene reminded me of the Never Ending Story when the princess starts talking to the kid reading the book. It would have been cool if they treated the player as a first person character at that moment instead of “third person”.

Cool! The first one wasn’t great; did they leave a door open to a trilogy?
I’m still back in South Africa so I haven’t played anything in over 3 weeks, but I have all of next week to get back into it, as well as a new PC to build.

Open? They left it off the hinges.
Spoiler:
Unless they do something completely unexpected, the next one should take place in our era. The plot just got a hell of a lot more interesting now that the goal is preventing the Earth from being destroyed.
Prof. X was Assassin’s creed 2 ok, good, great? I ask because I just exchanged an unopened copy for Dragon Age Origins, which I hear is the shit. Did you have to play the first one to know what’s going on in the second?

Assassin’s Creed 2 got a 9 out of 10 stars out of every game review site I visited. It deserved it because the attention to detail was done on a level that clearly surpassed the original.
I can’t tell you what games you will like. I personally HATE first person shooter games. There is very little thought or puzzle solving going on usually and unless you are screaming at other people over the internet, there is actually little interest even for the players of those games to play alone…which is WHY they always play on line.
With the addition of looking for the tombs of past assassins, this game reminds me a little of Tomb Raider while keeping all of the wall scaling, killing and the attempts to figure out how to kill someone quietly in a crowded room.
They got rid of all of the repetitive missions of the first one and basically upgraded every area that was originally complained about.
I don’t know anything about Dragon Age so I can not compare the two.
Also, no, you don’t NEED to play the first one to play this one. They do a pretty good job of catching you up. They also make it clear that they used the first game as a jumping off point but that they expanded the plot, characters and game play this time around.
In the first one, the assassin himself had no personality. You only knew his name. You then killed people. This one takes you from the birth of the assassin (using the birth as a basic way to teach the player about which buttons work which appendages) and follows him for about 15 years once he makes his first kill. You watch him mature and learn and they gave him a very clear personality. There aren’t many games on that level. Even GTA San Andreas didn’t take you through the entire life of the main character.
In my opinion, this is one of those games you buy…if you look for games that don’t involve a headset and screaming 14 year olds.
