That game sucked so much ass, they should hand out a straw and plastic butt cheeks with every purchase.
Just like playing Tomb Raider: Underworld but with boss battles.
No, it was NOTHING like Tomb Raider. In Tomb Raider you actually have to think through puzzles. POP was nothing but redundant moves with scenery that looked EXACTLY the same on each level. I gave that game a good run just to see if it would get better…but it didn’t. It was boring and repetitive.
How the hell can you compare this to Tomb raider? I’ve played TR since the very first game on PS1.
It’s not even the fact that you can’t die, or the relative ease of the acrobatic manoeuvres. It’s the mind-numbing monotony of it all. Also, there were very few places where you had to perform a long chain of moves without error. If there are no lows in a game, no frustration so to speak, then there are no highs, no feeling of achievement, which is what they sell anyway.[/quote]
Good point. With that floating fairy girl there to pick you up whenever you missed a jump, there was no feeling of accomplishment when you actually made it. It made the feel of the game very fake. It is like they blew their whole wad on trying to make the game look like a cartoon but completely forgot about making the environment interesting or providing any motivation to finish the damn game. The dialogue was also irritating.

I compared it to Tomb Raider: Underworld.
The mechanics are virtually the same between the two games with the exception of using wall rebounds to gain height. The camera is much more user friendly in Prince of Persia, and doesn’t have any of the wonkeyness I found in TR:U. However PoP could certainly use first person POV from time to time.
There is absolutely no memorable combat in TR:U. There are a handful of minions, but not one boss battle. And they had so many opportunities to add in some great fights, but neglected to do so. The end game wasn’t a boss fight. It was just another puzzle, but with a lady throwing fire balls. PoP has what? 25-26 sum odd boss fights, plus another 30-40 one-on-one fights with lower level shadows.
After playing Braid the TR:U puzzles were straight forward and simple. However the cut scenes for their execution was quite impressive. Plus Lara and the PDA both explained how to solve the puzzle. Admittedly, PoP would have benefited from some good in-game puzzles.

I get what you’re saying. Finally getting through the long obstacle runs in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and the 2D sidescrollers can be quite rewarding, but I see those games as classic platformers. This version of PoP and TR:U I just don’t see that way. PoP I put in the same category as Assassin’s Creed and Crackdown. Open world sandbox games, but with a greater emphasis on the vertical element. TR:U is much the same, but with a more linear gameplay. The frequent autosaves in TR:U serves the same purpose as Elika in PoP, just with a longer execution time.
I agree with you on the short obstacle runs when following the main story, but that changes when you go for the optional plays like getting all the speed run achievements or collecting all 1000 lightseeds. Plus another achievement requires less than 100 saves by Elika through out the entire game play. Just like collecting all the relics and treasures in TR:U these extra incentives add value to the gameplay

I disagree. I dig the art design of the game, and am thrilled other games like Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Borderlands, and Champions Online have gone/are going in that direction as well. I wouldn’t want every game done in this style, but a few games done well will keep me happy. I like Elika’s role in the game its a simple way to test out the prince’s abilities without being punished for it. However I can see where some could use it as a crutch to get through the game. Again I am trying to keep her usage to below 100 times even with the added difficulty of collecting all 1000 lightseeds.

Monotonous. You basically play through a level…then have to go back through it backwards just to pick up little light balls. That aspect alone nearly made me crack the disc in half.

Well…I guess that’s what I get for trying to be all fly with the thread title.
Anyone into Monster Hunter? I never really got into the previous ones, but I’ve been playing the hell out of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on the PSP. They fixed the load times over the previous ones if you are willing to do a 500mb install to your memory card.
No real story to the game. But there is a surprising amount of skill and depth to the gameplay and items. My friends and I have been trying to get Xlink Kai working to play it over the internet. We finally got it working on some XP machines; but it doesn’t work well with Vista. Monster Hunter 3 is coming out on the Wii early next year (already out in Japan) and I think it will have online play built in.

Coolness. A vs P requiem was a much better movie than the first attempt…but I think people didn’t see it because they thought it was more of the same.

I bought DollHouse on dvd on a whim thinking it would probably suck and I like this show. I don’t watch much tv but this was way better than I thought it would be. I don’t know how long the show can last given the subject matter, but aside from a few casting mistakes here and there, it was a good idea.
Amy Acker, Echo, and me need to get together.

It looks SICK!
I’ve preordered my copy today - out 28th of August.
Like Prof X said a long time ago, the movie industry should be thanking their lucky stars for the success of 80’s cartoons and comic books. Otherwise, what the hell kind of movies would be coming out worth watching? These cartoons turned into movies are breaking records at the box office, and really letting some actors shine, and others resurrect themselves. I don’t know if Christian Bale would be as successful as he is, if not for Batman, and I am sure Robert Downey Jr. would still be in rehab if not for Iron-Man. These stories from the 80’s are classic, both young and older generations love them. That is the tell tale sign of a great movie.
Not trying to change the topic, but since this is Geek Sht, this is pretty geeky sht. The first Wi-Fi pacemaker has been given to a US patient. The doctor can monitor his/her patient via the internet.
