I finished the I Kill Giants miniseries.

Art was bw; decent in a good mix between manga and comics… The giant was probably the best drawn character. I felt the layout was a bit lacking, but conducive to the story, so it was decent enough. The main character was kind of annoying and all of them were somewhat one dimensional. The story got pretty sappy, especially towards the end; I think I actually rolled my eyes. Only one or two of the books have any actual action, and it wasn’t even that good, so that was kind of a bummer, but it’s just not that kind of book, so I can’t hold that against it. It had an ok pace.

All in all, it kept me entertained, but it wasn’t as much fun as some of the other books I’ve talked about here.

Im late to the dragon age discussion but ive got to say…anyone who buys this because they are a fan of Fallout 3 or Skyrim should be sorely disappointed.

Im 30 hours in and its just PACKED with filler. Compared to Mass Effect, Skyrim or Fallout, the sidequests are just so thin and only worth doing for the sake of leveling your characters. Rarely do they provide any compelling motivation beyond that.

It feels like playing a single player MMO, from the world design to the repetitive/generic side quests and to some extent, the combat system. As a huge Mass Effect and KOTOR fan i cant help but be disappointed.

This is not to say that it isnt a good game, but if this was the GOTY, it just goes to show you how sorry 2014 was for videogames in general. Thank god 2015 is shaping up to be much better.

The game also lacks the polish ive come to expect from Bioware. Graphics are passable for the current gen, especially when you consider the amount of slow down and pop in you will encounter. Voice acting is only above average, and the universe is just not as well defined or believable.

Its good enough to warrant a fairly complete play through but just as with Origins, i am sure i will be trading this in for the Witcher 3 or the Order when they come out. Provided The Order gets as good a reception as i anticipate based off the most recent trailers.

For those of you that use Firefox, I just discovered the / key is a shortcut for CTRL+F (which is a shortcut for finding a work, for those of you that don’t currently do that).

Also, anyone venture to the bottom of the TNation page lately? Holy crap, that’s bright.

Anyone seen this stuff?

It’s a little misleading. You have to buy the sensor for $199 and a shirt or pants for $99 each. So if you want to monitor everything while deadlifting for example you need the shirt, pants, and 2 sensors (The shirt and pants each need a sensor to work in tandem). That’s $600 bucks…

I’m digging it though. That and the Push band looks cool, but again you need 2 of them if you do any single arm movements like DB press.

Review In Progress:

I recently picked up Dying Light and have put about 5 hours of gameplay into it. I’m estimating the the single player campaign is around 20 hours long since I’m 25% completed with the campaign.

Graphics: 8/10. They resemble far cry 4’s detail and draw distance. Developers seemed to purposely wash away the color and contrast much of the time to give a bleak feeling. Details and gore up close when squaring off against zombies is sharp.

Story: 6/10. Keep in mind I’m only 25% through the story, but thus far it’s pretty average and quite linear. At the moment, I don’t really care that much about what’s happening or the characters.

Gameplay: 8/10. I’ve mostly enjoyed parkouring zombies in the face and jumping off of buildings or sliding into holes to escape chasing zombies. The level up system is broken down to survivor, agility and power. Survivor increases scavenging stats for constructing and building weapons & tools, agility increases speed, sprinting endurance and parkour stats and power increases toe to toe abilities. Each subsequent progression unlocks new abilities through a typical skill tree.

I’ve rarely felt scared, under tension or very pressed during the day. There was only once where I was on a bridge being chased by a “viral” with nowhere to go and ran out of stamina and could no longer sprint or move quickly. The virals are very agile and can climb and sprint as fast as you can without fatiguing. They’re previous parkour humans who have recently turned and haven’t yet lost their strength.

During the night is when shit goes down and if anyone has ever seen Omega Man or I am Legend with Will Smith, it’s the same exact feeling. When the sun goes down, your stop watch alarm goes off because you literally cannot see anything and the “volatile’s” come out.

Volatile’s are extremely hard to kill and the best option is almost always to run away and try to find safe houses, which are best to unlock during the day. Volatiles are only susceptible to UV light and flares will keep them back until they burn out, but you’ll still get attacked by the regular zombies.

At my current level of progession, when my alarm goes off indicating the sun is going down, I immediately head to the closest safe house because moving at night is so difficult without being seen and once seen by the volatiles, so far I’ve had about a 50% failure rate because it’s just so dark. Even using your UV flashlight, flares or fireworks, you still then have the regular zombies that start to swarm you.

Overall: 7.5/10 at 25% completion and with 0% multiplayer so far.

Thanks was wondering about this game. Keep us posted man as you play through it.

I am also curious about dying light so ill be checking back here. Evolve comes out pretty soon too which looks promising

Will do. Lately I’ve been waiting for reviews before I buy games, but there’s a few that are on my list that are first day buys for me. I’m a sucker for anything zombie games particularly. Some other games that will be first day buys are Witcher 3 and Uncharted 4. I was thinking about picking up The Order as well until someone mentioned it may be less than 10 hours long. For $60, I just can’t justify 10 hours unless I can replay it 5 times. That’s where games like skyrim and fallout were so exceptional.

Evolve is totally online game though is it not?

I want to say yes, but I’m not 100% positive. And to the person who said uncharted 4 is an automatic buy, thats for damn sure. I saw some gameplay footage that looked amazing. Its a long ways from completed too.

My problem with online gaming is getting smoked by 14 year old Japanese kids who have nothing else to do with their life. Or games that require you to get “friends” to do the campaigns with you. My game play is very sporadic and trying to coordinate that is impossible.

Nice Davinci.v2. I should be playing today or tomorrow.

You know, I’ve found more than a few times that reviews have scared me away from a game that I later tried and found that I actually loved it. Reviews are a funny thing.

It’s 100% online. No campaign. The difference with Evolve is that it’s 4 vs.1. So it’s a little different take on PVP gameplay. You’ve got 1 monster that’s badass and 4 hunters with different abilities that are badass. The beta noted a pretty even parity between the two groups.

I’m on the fence, but went ahead and pre-ordered it.

I completely agree with you. Evolve also seems to be a game that will be pretty skill based, so getting smoked by those 14 years olds is def a strong possibility. And like you said, simply cause they have nothing else to do. I’m curious about it, but my chances of getting it are pretty slim.

On a side note I’m about to beat shadow of mordor and just wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed that game. Its one of those that just nails the gameplay so well that even when its done you want to go back and keep playing. Killing uruks in brutal ways is so damn satisfying. Makes me miss the old lotr games for ps2… those were split screen co op and some of the most fun i’ve had gaming

See I just couldn’t get into shadow of mordor. I thought it was a cheap knock off of the Batman games. I thought the mechanics weren’t as good either. Might give it another go.

Yea me and my kids loved doing the lotr ps2 games. We spent many hours doing co-op.

Kind of miss that, nobody puts out co-op games any more, all has to be online so they can charge people for two games.
