Makes him more credible.

Which is sorely needed when you claim to squat 500 raw, throw on a suit a couple of times and handle 700.

My take:

I define strength as the ability to generate internal tension to overcome an external force. Consequently, using a multi-ply bench shirt or squat suit has nothing to do with strength, because it’s generating external tension to overcome an external force. Consequently, I don’t consider someone stronger for being able to lift a heavier weight with a mechanical aid…

“Consequently, using a multi-ply bench shirt or squat suit has nothing to do with strength”

This has already been said, the strongest in gear is the strongest raw. For example Matt Kroc benches just under 500 raw during a deload.

But don’t you get it… it doesn’t matter that one of the strongest benchers ever (Mendy) held the equipped and current raw record.

Doesn’t matter that Siders, Thompson and Scott Smith all totalled over 2,000 raw at NERB…

Nor does it matter that Ceili would pretty much whip anyone in or out of gear…

Once those suits and shirts go on, they lose all their REAL strength, and it’s replaced by mechanical aids.

As an aside… for exclusively raw lifters, who has the highest current total? Scott Weech Jr’s 2,123 at this years RUM is it?

Both Siders and Thompson totalled more than that 3 years ago at Nerb…

People who say guys squatting/benching/deadlifting retardedly huge amount of weights equipped wouldn’t lift just as stupid amounts of weight unequipped are just ignorant.

That said I still don’t like gear.

But then I don’t like Anime or Japenise RPGs and no one does or should give a shit.

I can see what is on your mind.

Mind you, I’m a bodybuilder and not really someone who should be commenting on this topic…
But you can easily lose your groove/suffer grip-failure/tear something/fail to come out of the hole on a squat/etc when training raw.
The weight may be less heavy, but squatting 700 or even 500 raw and messing up will get you injured just as well (or dropping 495-600 lbs or whatever on your throat during a bench press attempt).

So honestly, I don’t quite get that particular argument…

If you lose your groove unequipped then it’s a lot easier to recover or have spotters catch the bar.

When Alhazov was attempting 1300 how were the spotters meant to help? I’ve been told that there were 7 of them, but they couldn’t get enough hands on the bar.

I have never seen an unequipped Bench get dropped on the head as is seen in the Power Unlimited movie. OK, that’s a one off (and was bad spotting) but I doubt it would have happened unequipped.

Cheers
Chris
