Gawd Dayum! Ghetto Workout
Enders Drift wrote:
Where do you people even see them trying to sell this is what I’d like to know? Cause I’m pretty sure it only exists in the form of that youtube clip - I’ve not found anything to suggest otherwise.
Good point…but selling something or not, some here seem to think they should be speaking in some other way than what they are used to. These guys don’t give a shit if some suburban male in a message forum thinks they use slang too much. They are speaking to people LIKE THEM, not to any of you who seem to take issue with everything from whether they wear a shirt to how they speak.

The real question is, out of every jackass who seems to take issue with this clip, how many look as developed as the guys in it?

I swear this board is filled with arrogant little shits who haven’t actually DONE anything to warrant the attitude.

A joke? Do guys like you sit in your own little bubble for your entire lives? Guess what, a large part of the country would view that clip and feel right at home. It isn’t a joke and the fact that you even think it might be says way more about your lack of experience than anything else.
I never said it needs to be generic, so I don’t know what you’re going on about.
No, you wrote this:
That may be their target audience but it really isn’t all that professional. The dialogue could definitely be worded differently to omit swear words to make it more ad friendly while still sounding urban or whatever.
…which implies that their attempt was somehow wrong in your eyes because of the difference of culture and the absence of any obligation to make this “vanilla” enough for you.
I said it can still be urban or “ghetto” if that’s what you want to call it, targeting that market, but be worded differently to come off more professional and more focused. As it stands, the video is a joke.
Clueless. How the hell would they target the audience they are after by NOT speaking like their target audience?

Ya a joke, the video is ridiculous even if they aren’t trying to sell something. Who jumps on top of a bus stop to do push ups or does dips on people’s cars? I workout at home a lot when I’m busy with school and can improvise perfectly fine without being a public menace and moron posturing around with no shirt like i’m cool shit.

No it doesn’t imply that. All i’m saying is they don’t need to say nigga and swear to get their point across. Are you saying you have to say nigga to relate to black people in order to market products to them? I can just imagine these guys walking into bank for a business loan carrying on the way they do. It doesn’t matter what culture you are, if you want people to take you seriously you have to carry yourself a little more professionally.

Again I’ll ask are you saying you have to say nigga to relate to black people in order to market products to them, b/c that’s what you’re implying here.

Yep. Lets just let this thread die now.

Also, LOL at everyone saying that the clip is an unprofessional piece of advertising. Really? Do you think these guys care about what John Smith thinks about them on a message board?

Take the video for what it is, black guys in the projects using creativity to get a workout in…The language they use in the video is the language they use everyday. Who cares if they say “nigga”? Were you expecting a video titled Ghetto Workout to be narrated by Mike Rowe?
I don’t think anyone thinks they are actually pedos. I made that comment in the context that in my opinion posturing around without a shirt on and bagging pants in public is douchebaggy. reminds me of the idiots who flex their guns at the gym and look at their abs in the mirrors.

You guys take everything completely literal around here.

You just nailed it my friend. That’s one reason why I left for a long period of time. I enjoy the information that T Nation has and many of the old-time posters, but it’s hard to stomach the pure hubris that many of these kids bring to the forum.

The video in question has been around for a while and when I saw it I was nothing but inspired and you know my background.

Hey Josher I’m not saying that I know what everyone has done, but there is an attitude that is currently prevalent on this board from some of the younger guys that wasn’t here several years ago. I try not to disrespect anyone regardless of age. But, I see a lot of guys who are barely 20 telling the rest of us how to train, how to eat and even how to vote. When pushed for facts their quoting some college professor when neither have any real world experience.

I’m not always right, far from it and I’m sure Prof X would say the same thing, but dam the respect level for those of us who have lived it for 20 or more years is just not there with some of you.

All The Best,

Zeb

i’m probably missing something, but I don’t get all the hostility this video has seemed to generate. A bunch of guys working out on the street and having fun with somebody’s video camera. I just don’t see anything objectionable. It’s about as harmless a thing as I have ever seen, and would be thrilled to let my kid watch it I don’t get the name calling and anger. i think people generally need to chill a little and relax and enjoy things for what they are. there is enough anger in the world already.

BHAHAHA! A-fucking-MEN!

LOL at y`all still arguing over this. It would be mildly entertaining were it not ludicrously pathetic in its pointlessness.

Prof X, come on man…you`re above this shit. Rise above, mate.

Didnt ya know its all about the e-peen `round here? Urban Dictionary: e-peen

Damn this is crazy. People think this is unacceptable. 1. around where i live if you are a young-ish male in a park, playground, whatever without your shirt off your either gay or fat. 2. most here would think a game of pick up ball is ghetto because guys say words like nigga, and hood. 3. i know white kids in my neighborhood that say the word nigga in front of 20 black kids. this is not seen as confrontational or an insult. its the way we speak and have always spoken. most black dudes think nothing of it. i call my white friends niggas too. its kind of like saying dude. 4. if any of these guys were in my neighborhood most would probably look and say oh cool and sheer em on. no one would see their actions as hostile or unacceptable or whatever the fuck you guys think.

when these guys say the words nigga or hood and curse its not because there disrespectful, or lack a sense of culture. its because in places like where i live when your friend says hi to you he doesnt say whats up dude. he says whats up nigga whether your white or black. hopefully this doesnt piss anyone off but anyone coming from a fairly busy, urban neighborhood should probably know what im talking about. and if you dont come from these neighborhoods please dont comment.

Thanks for the kind reply Zeb. This is how debating should be done around here, certainly removes hostility out of the arguments.

I duno if people think it’s unacceptable, I think the point is more so if the intention is to market a good or service, even if it is not for profit, then it could be done better. Currently the video comes off cheesy and immature. For instance why is the guy mentioning these guys being incarcerated in the video like it’s some honor badge? The video is confirmatory of a bunch of stereotypes. If they’re trying to motivate kids and be role models or whatever, I don’t see how things like that fit into the video.

cmooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon guys what ever happened to just agreeing to disagree.

Fighting on the internet is like being in the special olympics…

Even if you win, your still retarded

Cant we all just go back to talking about how much we hate skinny people that think their the shit cuz they have visible abs?

LOL. Even in spite of the apparent good they have done with this message, we still have idiots on this board trying to call them out for not being “professional” enough. Guess what, the guys they are targeting would more than likely NOT listen if they didn’t speak the way they are accustomed to.

200,000 kids…I wonder how many people the jokes in this thread have helped.

I think latent racists are overly critical of the way minorities act and speak. I see it all the time. If someone of color does/says something even remotely resembling something from their culture, the racist gets all uptight saying shit how it makes them seem “stupid, ignorant, unproffesional, criminal,” whatever. Right, because you have to act just like a suburban white male or else you couldn’t possibly be smart or a good citizen.

Some of you in this thread aren’t giving these guys enough credit. As if they couldn’t possibly act “professional” if they wanted to. I know I talk differently with my friends than how I would on a job interview, so why couldn’t it be possible that these guys have the same intelligence and adapdability?

I think it’s very telling when people in this thread say shit like, “oh hes a public menace because he’s doing dips on someones car bumper.” Did you guys stop to think that MAYBE it’s HIS car? No it couldn’t be, because he’s black right? And for the last fucking time, the guy on top of the bus stop was up there doing supported situps, with the extended range of motion provided by the height. He might as well do his fucking pushups while he is up there. And even if that werent the case, they are trying to make a cool looking video, do you really need to be this critical? Just let them be creative without getting a sandy vagina. Sheesh.

I also don’t believe the mention of prison was meant to be a badge of honor, rather it was making the point that these guys have KNOWLEDGE of how to train despite their previous circumstances and have something to show for it. I mean how many threads have we had on this site bitching about personal trainers who went to school for their certs/degrees yet don’t know shit or look like they’ve never worked out a day in their life? There’s been like a trillion of them! I figured more people on this site would support these guys.

I really liked the video (along with a couple others) when i first watched, and was actually really happy since I hadn’t had access to heavy weights in a long time and it gave me some new things to try out with bodyweight exercises. I’m fucking glad they made the vid and I did not find it silly, rather I found it to be pretty badass.

I do completely agree with this

except when they say things like “Dont even try that or you will dislocate all your shit”

If I said on one of these forums “Dont even try to do the shit I do guys or you will dislocate everything” i would get a big ol FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

but like I said, I got no problem with the message/ideas their putting out there, more kids should be inspired to workout, hell the USA’s youth is getting fatter by the second

FIRST OF ALL. GOOO…FOR…THEM

So what do these guys squat? Deadlift max? Bench? Can they do chinups with added weight? A lot of this shit looks like more SHOW than GO. I want REAL STRENGF DAMMIT! A lot of those “crazy” chinups are the same type used on the P90X videos and guess what YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO DO THEM AT HOME and no you wont “Dislocate all yo shit”.

Dont get me wrong though id definetly buy a shirt off of any one of them, cause those HAAAAWT abs can really sell shit ya know? fuck it id buy their cologne too!
